I was only just telling my friend yesterday about the channel, listing all the reasons why this is my favourite. How Shawn treats Cali was right up there.
Wow, such beauty! Being in the middle of the US, I never knew much about Canada or Ontario. You have captured the beauty of your region and I now know alot more about where you live. Canada is so beautiful and Ontario is awesome! Thanks for sharing your life with us. I went back and viewed most of your video's and now I feel like I know and understand you. You are a awesome man!
It is beautiful, but it becomes a whole lot less enjoyable in person when the black flies, deer flies, horse flies and mosquitoes hit. They each peak at different times, but some of the worst of their cycles overlap. For those of us experiencing it all vicariously via video, late spring and summer may seem the most beautiful -- but the reality when you are there in person is different. Simply put: the bugs are awful - just *awful*. That's why Shawn prefers the late Fall, Winter (and early Spring). For 6 to 7 months, the bugs finally stop. The other 5? Not my cuppa.
@@roberttrifts2737 We have been here since Sept and "missed" the bug season but I can tell you the beauty is well worth it...or so I say now...will see in few months. Few black flies already but they are mostly interested in the beech tree sap.

I got up this morning kinda out of sorts. I got my phone and saw a video from Mr James and gotta say, my mood got a little better. Made me happy!! Hi Cali.
I think most guys want to do what you are doing, I think it's just in our nature, but never did for one reason or another. When I was much younger, I watched a 1969 movie called "My Side Of The Mountain". It was about a boy around 15, year old who went up in the Mountain to live on his own for a while. I never forgot that movie. I was 14 at the time and made a list of all the stuff I would need to do it. Now I regret that I never did anything like it. It may be why I like watching those of you who build what they need to live off the grid with nature. May the wind always be at your back and the sun upon your face. Stay safe.

It's so nice to watch you work while not destroying your tools and machines. I have stopped watching several channels on off grid because when they start to act like yahoos and break or destroy everything they touch, well, that's not for me. You on the other hand use your head and don't abuse what you have. Of course, machines break down, tools can break but there is no need to rush them to their demise.
