I always have this problem, and it usually works ok for me to take 1-2” out of the middle of the CF rise, angled out to nothing at the side seams. Then I straighten out the CF again. Otherwise it looks like diapers in the front, and I end up rolling over my waistband several times in the front. Not many fitting discussions address this issue, so thank you!
Shortening the rise can be a game changer!! Happy that helps you & that you straightened the CF edge after... Thanks for sharing & for fitting along with me
Wow I have a full tummy and I feel like this helped me understand so much about why I have fit issues-I never thought of the front seam as a dart but that makes so much sense!!! Excited to play around with this
Wow, thanks, Jen! This is what I was looking for. I never could figure out why I could not get rid of that extra fabric even after removing from the CF to side seams. Bravo. I’ll give this a try. 🌺🌺🌺🪡✂️🧵. A true “triangle” here with a little tummy😂
I appreciated you video for shorting shoulder and taking inside seams. My problem is that I need to do that on an 8-year-old reversible cotton jacket with French seams. It seems I need to remove about 4 " from sides and at least and about the same from the shoulders. I have edited many pairs of slacks but not sure about getting the sleeve back in correctly. I know you work with altering patterns. Could you do the same with ready-made. all videos seem to demonstrate adjusting shoulders or sleeves. I hope you see this.
:) Removing 4" from the shoulder and side seams is a lot... But they may "compliment" each other... meaning that removing 4" from the shoulder will make the armhole longer and trimming off 4" along the side seam will make the armhole shorter (but significantly more than shortening the shoulder does) It's going to come down to whether or not you can adjust the sleeve to fit the new armhole. I think you'll need to shorten the sleeve cap length to get it to fit... If you have excess room in the bicep, you can sew the underarm seam deeper to make the cap length shorter to fit. I would take the jacket apart to make it easier to re cut the pieces ... pinning them together to test the new shape before trimming anything. Hope this helps!
Hello from the Netherlands! Thank you for you excellent explanation. I have a flat+low butt and also a flat front (even more like the opposite of a big tummy.... you may call it a "hole"😉). Both video's are awesome!!! I have a small waist and small hips, but you can call my figure as a skinny small/petite hourglass. Very difficult to make a good pair of trousers, but now I can fine-tune my pattern even more! I think I can find much more solutions in your lessons 🥰 The upper side of my body is also very slim, like the rest.... No flesh, only bones and skin 🤣 Thank you so much!! I appreciate your work 😍
Great Information!!!! I am planning to come to the Houston Quilt Fest. I saw that all your classes are filled. Will you be down on the Show floor any on Friday or Saturday? I would Love to meet you in person!! Maybe, I can try to come find you in between your classes!!!! Happy Sewing!!!!
:) I'm sorry I didn't see this earlier... I'm teaching all day on Friday & Saturday, so I don't have much time to be on the show floor. If you're around, you can stop by my classroom right before or after the lunch hour! Thanks for watching... and I hope I get to see you

Thanx Jen for this discussion on baggy fronts. I will try tweaking the cf seam more. I have been trying to achieve trousers that fit for years 🤦🏼♀️
You got this!! I hope this helps you get there. Thanks for watching
