In China's rural area, you can have the second child when the first is a girl, but in urban area, you can have the second one only the first one has any mental or physical disability, nothing to do with gender. moreover, in some poorest regions. This policy was even not operated. last, under any condition, only if you lost your first child, people can have the second one. There are so many other exceptions. this is not a law in china, it is more like a regulation, it operated case by case.
The reason that families live in rural areas can have a second child if the first is a girl is because most of them hold household registration of type 'agriculture'. So a great number of them make a living on farming which requires huge amount of labour force. Normally males are physically stronger than females and having only one girl might not be able to support the family, so it's better for them to have a second one.
And you forgot to mention that in urban areas, you could have more children by paying a fee, and those children would not get all the social benefits like medical and free schooling etc. But could at least make sure that the child is born rich. That's why they need to pay that heavy fee.

I've been scrolling down the comment section, and I've noticed a lot of people are saying that having a large rural population is good because it means there'll be a larger labour force for growing more food. Well no. Having more people in the countryside doesn't mean there'll be a greater food supply. If you want food supplies to increase, then your best chance is to purchase food from abroad. Why else do you think globalisation is a thing. If you can't provide yourself want you needor want, buy it from someone else. Finding out how many people are living in rural areas can help determine how successfully a country has been developing. What should be happening in emerging countries is enormous numbers of people from the rural areas migrating to cities. There should be an overall decline in the number of rural-dwelling inhabitants and a big increase in people living in urban settlements. Whats happening in countries like Brazil and Indonesia are good examples of this occurance, China even more so. People in the countryside of developing countries don't want to stay in a life of farming. Almost all people living the countrysides of India are living in permanent poverty. They want to find a better job, earn a decent living, provide for their families. It is easier to find employment in the cities than in the rural periphery. This is why they want to move to cities as it provides more opportunities for them. If you were in the position of these people, you would think exactly like this. You (someone who lives in or near an urban-sprawl) would think its good that there's many people in rural areas, but in the eyes of the people in the countryside, its the exact opposite. So in conclusion, yes I suppose that a big rural population means a chance to grow more food, but you have to bear in mind that the most majority of those farmers don't want this life. If India continues to have a large and growing rural population, the country and especially its people as a whole won't develop as well as you think it would.

Well rural population doesn't mean that poor but condition of Indian agriculture sector is very backward technology compared to other countries. India just have to improve it's technology in agriculture and they will see a boom in Indian economy. In the state of punjab there are farmers that own Mercedes and other luxury cars. And the people here saying that due to largest rural population india will never develop let me tell them that its just a matter of advanced tech and literacy rate of Indian villages that could literally skyrocket Indian farmer's wealth. Nice data visualization. Though I don't think the comparison in this video has much meaning. The quality of rural life differs from country to country. The reason for the decline in the rural population can be urbanization which is usually but not necessarily a sign of progress or a decline in the total population which is alarming.
China’s urbanization rate has increased from 30% to the current 60%. It took 40 years to complete. The target for China’s urbanization rate is 70%. It will take at least 10 to 20 years. An urbanization rate of 70% is a reasonable ratio for China. Because of the flat terrain in northern China, agriculture can be intensive and large-scale, which greatly improves agricultural efficiency. Now northern China is also the main producer of food in China. However, in the hills and mountains of northwest and southwest China, agricultural development has always been restricted, with cash crops as the mainstay, and a large agricultural population is needed.
I guess thts could possibly be the only chart that you will see China moving down the ranking order for total rural population. Another possible one would be birth rate/total population. Never thought I'd hear this song again
@Cash Money and yet the Indian government doesn't have the necessary funding to 'train' its farmers. Many, if not most of them are illiterate.

@@toufikbiswas9737 There is no need to urbanize everything in this world. Also please look into Belgium and Netherlands contribution to Global CO2 emission per capita and this year in Europe the summer was extreme. This is one example of over urbanization
@@manjunathmmp Dude, you are forgetting that Netherlands is heavily industrialised country. If it was just villages there instead of cities, the carbon footprint would not be much different. Most of the Dutches use waterways, bicycles and public transport. They use technology to reduce pollution. Heat storm is happening everywhere. I will say it again. If there are people in a place, it needs to urbanise. Urbanisation is the future.
How is "rural population" defined?
What makes population rural/urbanized?
industrialization
@@wangchuang2040 So if you have a job/are selling your labour/not work on the fields you're automatically part of the "urban population"?
@Henonaga What? So urban population living in poverty is considered rural population?
And the suburbs of Budapest, for example, or villages that are considered part of Zurich metropolitan area are considered "rural population" in that sense?
@@ireminmon It may be a person, a family or a group to be engaged in industry or other service industries supporting industry without land.
@@wangchuang2040 I live in a village but work in a near town. Am I urban or rural population?
What's the song's title? Its pretty good
India: Yay im first noobs
China: i know but this dude is following u
Pakistan:
*HIPPITY HOPPITY I WANT UR THROPHY PROPERTY*
What?
I don't know about other countries but high rural population for India is a good sign. If they move to cities then illegal occupation of land rises. So it's better they stay in the village and develop their itself.
