Mong Reththy talks - A Cambodian tycoon reflects on Cambodia's past and his amazing career

Okhna Mong Reththy is one of Cambodia’s best-known entrepreneurs. Cambodian film students from Meta House interview him about his youth under Pol Pot and how the former porter at the Phnom Penh port overcame all obstacles to become a business leader.

Mong Reththy is one of Cam­bodia’s best-known big businessmen and head of the Mong Reththy Group Co Ltd, which has an extensive portfolio of interests, including large sugar cane, palm oil and acacia plantations, the import-export business and construction. "I had little education. In 1979, I became a porter at the Phnom Penh port. Then in 1980, I started working for the Central Council [the People’s Republic of Kampuchea equivalent of today’s Council of Ministers] as a construction worker. I helped build the park in front of the Royal Palace. This was the first success for me, and I built up from there."

I met this guy in 1993-1994 in Cambodia, he have construction business. Both our us travel to Kampung Champ to meet PM brother, governor in that province.
Mr Moth was a Nice guys dan down to earth type, hope some someday I'II meet him again.

Young generations need to be taught about their histories. Doesn't matter if they want to listen or not still need to be taught. This shouldn't be a choice. If you don't know your history, you'll always go backward. You don't want history to repeat itself. That's why the young generations should sit down and listen. Because I lived through it, experienced it, I was a young kid when Pol pot and the Khmer rouge took over.
The government in charge right now is so bad and corrupted. They are destroying this beautiful country.
