Hi i am phill nice rocket i me self am in to rocket engineering and u got ur self a really good one try getting it to go where u want it it would be nice to see
That nozzle is genius! If I understand correctly - you're "coning" the four "pie" shaped pieces of paper / cardstock or what ever it is - right? You have inspired me to start in this direction. Estes is going bankrupt, so who knows if the supply of model rocket motors will be as accessible as they have been in recent years. Thanks for sharing!
To increase thrust. The solid fuel should burn only on the exposed surface. If the fuel were packed in solidly then the burn would occur over a circle the diameter of the rocket body, consuming the fuel from bottom to top. Instead the fuel burns over the entire empty middle surface, using the fuel from the middle out. This bigger surface area means more fuel is burned more quickly, developing more thrust. (But for less time) Did I make sense?
You made sense than you know, there are those that do not have the intelligence of a worm, and do not understand what you had to say., but you did make a lot if sense there.
instead of using a solid dowel for the core when casting. try to make a star shaped insert to increase surface area. the two solid boosters on the shuttle had this design.
Sorry for digging up an old comment but this is both right and wrong. Using a star shaped core *will* increase the surface area but that may not be a good thing. If you have too much surface area burning at once it will only explode on ignition, too little and it won't go anywhere. The rule is "always start small". What NASA and the government do really does not apply to small amateur rockets. They precisely calculate and design everything ahead of time. They also work worth precisely formulated and processed propellants, using R-Candy or BP you will get different results with every batch. If you are interested in the theory and principles (read: lots of difficult math, physics, and chemistry) then I suggest you read "Fundamental Aspects of Solid Propellant Rockets" by Williams, Barrere, and Huang. www.dtic.mil/dtic/tr/fulltext/u2/701545.pdf Note that it is only 789 pages, while it is old and dated most of theory still holds. Realize that this is only a very basic beginner's introduction text and if you want play with the big boys then I have several thousand more pages for you to read. tl;dr: Don't copy what the big boys do.
Its much better to always use rolled up paper tubes and string reinforcing because explosion of plastic or metal creates dangerous high speed fragments.
What is THEE difference between a sugar rocket engine that you cook down vs the dry method using wooden dowels and a wooden mallet ? What if any,are the performance differences ? I have had great success with the dry method. I can't see taking the extra time cooking down sugar and potassium nitrate, making a mess, ruining a pan, and risking a fire IF the results are negligible .
20 gr KNO3 10 gr powder suger 4 gr corn syrop and 30ml water to disolve syrop. this is a nice proportions .. more or less, just resect the proporcions above ...
The dude cannot speak english I'm pretty sure.. He used Epoxy 30 for the nozzel.. But im going to use a form of concrete an make 3 holes at angles as to make a soon like a bullet.. This is a good video tho. Wait til ya see mine :)
how much did you pay for one rocket and for how much did you sell them?? (its ok if the sell price is higher i would add 15% of the original price?!?!)
I understand if you didnt want to give away your secrets.. but very poor level of details.. ive done this before and cant understand what your doing half the time. but very nice job, hell of a rocket!!
Usless unless ya have folding fins plus a thermite shape charge in the front or AP.. primary an secondary. Also don't just make one.. make like 40. I made a test rocket in bed one night.. added the rcandy the next day with a piece of brass connection tube for a nozzle, it burned out the bottom, so making a strong plus light nozzle is a must... Next project.. :)
if you let air flow through the hole in the middle that thing will get alot and i mean alot move power but also create more heat wich would mean that the casing would melt apart
I'm tempted to think that flight is fake. It look like a AT white lightning commercial motor, look at the flame, it is bright white, while sugar motors have no flame, and the smoke trail looks darker than a sugar motor, and the thrust curve doesn't match with the motor, according to the thrust curve, this should have just over a 1 second burn, while the flight had a 2 second burn. And a J would send that little rocket off the pad WAY faster
No need for this music. You're not building an atomic bomb
I agree
i dont not agree
***** wait wut? xD
DashyyHD music is fine
***** But you had a doubled negaton in there ö.o
Its pretty amazing that the pvc cement holds the nozzle on.
can only be described with one word EPIC!
music= star wars a hero falls. good video!
Got to love that noise of it taking off.
Hi i am phill nice rocket i me self am in to rocket engineering and u got ur self a really good one try getting it to go where u want it it would be nice to see
Oh man the music made it all the more intense to make, oh man

What is that red stuff that covers the grains??
That is a big motor.
Can you tell me what the total weight of the rocket was and the altitude it reached?
Grate video
Where do you find KN03?
Spectracide 66420 Stump Remover at Lowes.
Paul Grunwald Thanks
JD Rock u can find pottasium nitrate or KN03 at a local home-depo or lowes in any area its just has to be spectracide stump remover
Excuse me, the first nozzle is what give it something solidified?
Nice job video and music!

Could you make the hole in the grain twice as small for an increased burn time ?
How did you put the engine in the outer casing?
@lighterinthestorm the eason he made a hole in the grains is because then it burns more propellent at a time which makes it more powerful.
Did u just use epoxy in the the nozzle
how do you know what the total impulse will be since youre making it yourself?
how did you make the nozzle?? what did you pour into the mold?
Looks like JB WELD was used
Is this one long case, incased in couplers?

@@eannewton3243 interesting
what height yocan launch it at?
@MrHarisbarthi It is electric ignition, and i dunno about the nozzle, was thinkin the same thing
what is the approx thrust generated by this?
Do you make nozzle blast tube ?
holy F that frekin cool!! music fits this compleatly!
Its much better to always use rolled up paper tubes and string reinforcing
because explosion of plastic or metal creates dangerous high speed fragments.
what materials is the nozzle of the engine.
Want to know how many comparisons kno3 and sugar?
How high did it get?
what is the max altitude and how much solid fuel you use in engine
i thought u need to simply pour the mixture inside the tube?? You make it hard? Why?

My guess is they get mixed better
what is the recipe of propellent PLEACE
this rocket has 134.8 pounds of thrust mate, it could lift the rocket motor, casing and some!
EPIC! Could you use this principle to make an iron man suit which flies?
no?
Il do it. u get it in mail in one week, OK?
SpiralPowerGaming
Well.... You *could*, I just wouldn't want to --ahem-- test pilot a rocket large enough to lift a person.
Ean Newton
then let me at it! id do it, so long As I had a bug out system...
Yes, ONCE !
i SAW a ROCKET come flying in, #onchristmasdayinthemooorning

I have a 29mm rocket can you make a video on how to make the same motor but in 29mm in diameter
thats a real nice rocket :D
Whats the name of this song plzzz tell me i herd it so much and never could find it plzzzzz tell me
Lux Aeterna by Clint Mansell
Rashad Anderson Darude - Sandstorm
Requiem For A Dream
Thats epic i need to try this
I understand if you didnt want to give away your secrets.. but very poor level of details.. ive done this before and cant understand what your doing half the time. but very nice job, hell of a rocket!!
Relay what a preasure in these ya but few more information about these
Tutorial on the nozzle design would be extremely helpful , the rest I understand
what about the deployment i don't have solution of this
awesome. now make a video plzzzzzz!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
can anyone explaint to me how to make the nozzle step by step ?
How high does it go
Haha if you weren't looking at the video you'd think you were watching some epic battle scene or something
That was awesome man great job (y)
What's the mix?
Music makes in so much more intense -_-
Why the middle is empty?
excellent!
*learning about rocketry intensifies*
im new to rockets but i dont understand this can you maybe make a video about it instead of pictures?
Usless unless ya have folding fins plus a thermite shape charge in the front or AP.. primary an secondary. Also don't just make one.. make like 40. Why does everyone use this music like it makes their video epic, every time I hear it I think... oh here comes another end of the world video
where i get KNO3 ?
Such serious music. Sounds like ww3, when your only doing baby crap. ROTFL
That was just the beginning... He's doing *bigger* things now...
Wow this is amazing!
propellant?
que diametro tiene el tubo de la tobera
if you let air flow through the hole in the middle that thing will get alot and i mean alot move power but also create more heat wich would mean that the casing would melt apart
SorSorry for replying a year later but that's not true at all, it would just shoot fire out of the air intake and generate 0 trust
Fiberplastic its extremely helpful for a rocket
Juangmsg - don't forget about internet conspiracy videos
hello
how to build it
I can't read half of the dimensions. You annotated terribly.
Wow! I'm gonna try this!!!!! :)
what is background music name?
What is a song title?
is it weird that I played this video again just to hear the music?
my1987toyota same here lol.
What is it called?
is your camera a 20 dollar webcam!?
2x speed sounds epic
:)
name of the music ?
fucking ultra awesome
cool! my question exactly...:)
thrust is stated in the video in newtons in the first graph want to know what it is in pounds Google is your friend ;)
The middle is empty because that is the combustion chamber.
song + home made nuke bom
Potassium Nitrate (KNO3)-2 *-2 meaning missing 2 electrons making it some sort of ion*
requiem for a dream
Why the song is requiem for dream
Lux Aeterna by Clint Mansell
no im sorry that would be the charge of KNO3
spectracide stump remover is pure kno3
Yer music is too loud! You should be narrating what yer doing and give CLEAR measurements! I want to make a motor too ya know.....

Tsveti - Just do a web search of "kno3 sugar". There are numerous tutorials and videos about making this amateur propellant.
Watched some if these get used and they do work pretty well, with good flight time and altitude.
make phone call to local paramedics.
it's hard for the people like me. pls help me how ;(
