I have the same Laguna CNC IQ, it is fun to see others using the same machine. I learned some things with a couple of your videos, looking forward to seeing more of them. I have been making similiar heart shaped boxes for the grand kids for valentines.
Subbed! Very nice of you to take us through your process. I am just getting started with my first machine. Big learning curve dealing with Mach3 for the first time plus other 3D design software and Vectric VCarve. Trying to do organic and geometric art pieces in reclaimed wood.
Another comment. I have now made three of these boxes. (Two more to do. Five granddaughters) All went well. A couple more points for those wishing to do this project. In order to facilitate the lid lip, I simply did a pocket tool path .01 inches deep on the top side of the boxes excepting the lid. Make sure to offset to match the lid well on the bottom side. The fit is tight so I used a dremel tool to peel a few thousandths off the rim. Also, after a few times pulling the stacks apart, they become a little loose. Not good for little ones who pick up the box. I did not think ahead to put magnets into the boxes so I used hasps and they looked great and gave a little variety to the exterior of the box. Nice project.
I like your style...easy to follow. I do have one question: When you are doing the side with the box shapes, the "groove" seems to automatically appear. Where/how is that being machined? I've watched the video back/forth and not carching it. Thanks! (p.s., I've been doing for less than a month and have so much to learn). Thanks!
Hello Ed. A point already made by others. You forgot to show the lip and depth of cut for the lip around the pockets on the topside. This is a separate step using the offset vectors just outside the pockets. Otherwise, a great video.
Thanks for another great project. I have question though. At 16:00 where the first set of pockets on the top is done, when previewing it, there is a third 'pocket' visible even though only 2 toolpaths has been created. Am I missing something?
Thank you, If I understand your question, all the pockets are created with one toolpath, theirs 2 tools used with the one toolpath, one to create the radius with a ball nose tool and the other is to clear out the rest with a square end mill. There is a total of 7 pockets cut out with this operation. I chose the ball nose as the first tool then the end mill as the clearance tool is chosen below. Regardless how many vectors you want to cut if their all the same depth they can all be selected and run in one toolpath.
@@canadianwoodsmith-edjohnso4608 Thanks for responding. I do understand that 2 tools is being used, thus creating 2 toolpaths. What I do not understand is that there appears to be a third 'cutout\pocket' drawn when you preview. Maybe if you could have a look at this captured image, stored on Google drive, it might be clearer what I am trying to say\explain. If you could, please have a look at it drive.google.com/open?id=1YTM-OtB7nN2uKQQ1v4UFoC1G9pw2c2aF
I noticed that as well. On the bottom side there was a 0.1 pocket tool path created for that recess. I replicated that on the top side. It looks ok in the preview. I guess I will find out when I run it.
Johan Van Dyk that appears to be the recess lip at 1/8” the bottom fits into. I must have mixed up steps during the editing and putting the video together.
Steve Gronsky Hi, thanks for watching. If I recall you press the “run/pause” and “stop” at the same time after the job is compleat to bring up the last job info.

Love the start to finish video! So many instruction videos cut it short! Very nice work!!
Thanks for the ideas

Wally's Toolshed thank you, I’m sure the kids will enjoy them.
Awesome! I'll certainly be making a couple of these.
Mark Lindsay CNC happy to share my ideas with the CNC community.
Great video and information! I am always trying to learn from the experts and you, my friend, are an Expert to me. Thank you so much
Very nice, love the unicorn!

Very nice project sir! And a very informative video 👍
Ed Nice work question ? what type of wood was that made from ? Really like the look
Very nice, I will have to make a few for my 10 grand kids. I also have the same Laguna IQ. "subscribed"
Augie's Woodcraft thank you, I made one for my 8 year old grandson, round with a deer head model on top. Enjoy.

Great project but do a test cut on lips and top and bottom, my machine I went .13 and .2 and still it's tight.
Great video once again very impressive work....I saw the running on the carving was rather quick...do you remember your feeds and speeds?
I run my 1/4" 2 flute end mill about 12,000-14,000 and 75" min.
Thanks for another great project.

At 30:57 how did you get the elapsed run time to display on the HHC?
