Sometime ago I started suggesting to declare one month of the year, in which no one touched the sea, in the whole planet. I´ve got a lot of kind comments about my naïve idea, due to the economic forces which wouldn’t permit something that risked their profit and power could happen. Now that the planet didn’t ask who could feel uncomfortable with this situation that stopped it all, releasing a little of the pressure we put on it and its creatures, I dare to reconsider the idea of establishing a kind of “quarantine of us” to the sea. For the good of everyone.
Germs rule, and they are usually pretty humble about it but sometimes they flex their muscles to remind us of who OWNS the place. Not us, we are passing through. They've seen the dinosaurs come and go and who knows what all else so I doubt they are too impressed with an inbred species like ours. We may be a big flash in the pan but we are still just a flash in time.
Carl_G but most of those 54k rely on tourists to earn a living, plus all the other people living in the areas nearby because Venice is just too expensive to live in. Overcrowding is a problem, cruise ships are a big problem, but Venice without tourist is dead.
G P I suppose you’re referring to my other comment, and my answer is: you and me both can’t generalise on the matter; some Italian brands moved their production elsewhere, but the majority of them have their production in Italy (any item with a made in Italy stamp) and that’s what I was talking about since you are commenting a video about Italy. Factory workers in Italy are at very least minimum wage, they’re considered skilled labour, wether Italian or migrant. It’s not fast fashion. Is it sustainable when it comes to materials? Not all of them, but that’s another subject.
