I have been flying Air Canada for over 50 years. Say what you will, when Im in a foreign country and I step on board Air Canada I am home already. ❤
They are a company, which means they won't care about you if you don't either
Air Canada needs a new focus on the quality of service if it wants seriously compete against foreign carriers. The new planes would be welcome but unless they have a new culture, they will continue to swim in the sea of mediocrity they have been in for the last fifteen years or so
I picked Delta over them for my last travel even though I had to jump through more hoops. I paid less for better service though, so i’ll do it again in a heartbeat. 4 drink services in a 3 hour flight vs 1… 3 snack services vs 1… i didn’t see the BOB menu on Delta as I wasn’t interested so I can’t compare the two there
AC better step up their customer care. As the Canadian flag bearer they are an embarrassment.
They are the only airline that allows only one gift card for payment. They have taken people's money, and now they cannot use all gift cards for one ticket.
Thanks DJ for great coverage on Air Canada!!
If you think AC is horrifying? WestJet is just as atrocious. I lost over $2400 due to a canceled tour from a cancelled direct flight to Vegas with no chance to rebook with another airline. All due to a last minute strike by their mechanics. ZERO customer service. And no support from travel insurance. As a Canadian and frequent flyer, the reliability of the Canadian aviation industry is utterly deplorable post pandemic.
THANK YOU! I have had nothing but mediocre to downright hostile service from the multiple times I've had to fly it... The in flight service if phony as a 3-dollar bill and the gate agents were like snarling pit-bull's the one time I asked for help looping the luggage tag after I already asked for and was denied help two other times because the guy was too busy chatting with friends to get a word in edge wise.. Never ever booked on them after that. If I want that level of crappy service I can visit any Denny's or Waffle House in North America 24/7... /s
Well, there is always Buffalo Airways, you can book a seat on that L-188 Lockheed Electra and head for Yellowknife. Joe McBryan, the owner, will personally see to it that you receive exemplary service! Best Canadian airline ever.
Operating with a bare-minimum crew, especially on international flights, has resulted in overworked and dissatisfied crew members, directly impacting both service quality and the overall passenger experience. Additionally, the airline’s breakfast offerings and many other menu items have remained unchanged for decades, showing a clear lack of effort in enhancing the onboard dining experience.
If they were better with the employees as well there would be a substantial difference
My last experience with air Canada was ok. I flew with some of my family to the falls to see that part of Ontario, do some sightseeing, and watch the eclipse. We tried to stay in less busy areas where it would be easier to see. Ended up being cloudy on lake erie.
Air Canada isn't up to flag carrier status. And now that they charge for carry-on I avoid them all together
In April they start flying to the Philippines. Awesome. The 787s really open the world up to all.
I have been nothing but happy with the trips I've taken on Porter. Both their Dash 8 model, but you don't want to be on that more than 2 hours, as well as their Embraer jets which are a bit more comfortable. But the service is great, the people were kind, my son was nervous and the main flight attendant checked on him as we boarded, let him meet the pilots and see the cockpit, and then checked on him every few minutes during the flight. Never got that kind of care from anyone on Air Canada. The smaller airlines seem to want to grow by making people happy, whereas AC seems to just want to grow by increasing prices and cutting jobs.
Yup! The answer isn't Air Canada or WestJet, they have both been proven to be horrible overall airlines at this point. Porter on the otherhand has that JetBlue modernist touch of class and professionalism that you'd hope and expect in an airline in the 21st century. Not just a city bus in the sky that smells like broken dreams and farts like your average WestJet, AC or even Flair flight...
I am a Canadian who flies into the USA almost monthly, and I pay a lot of extra money to book through Delta airlines, because I have yet to have a smooth experience on any Canadian airline. AC is the worst, but WestJet isn't much better.
Porter is pretty good but they’re regional. Delta is actually a very good carrier with an upgraded customer service and a consistent upgrade on their fleet. I’ve been on a business class flight from Seoul-Seattle-Vancouver and it was nice.
Air Canada's Customer Service has been non existant for 40 plus years, what them think they can improve it now? As a Canadian, I won't fly AC because of its crappy service nor will I ever recommend it to anyone else. They have had there chance to improve, but to no avail
AC has to increase comfort and quality service! Why should I pay that much for a “premium” seat that is boring! Still prefer to spend with airlines that really are premium instead of just pretending! Anyway AC has a lot of work if they wanna compete with majors excellent airlines!
Air Canada routinely pushes to be a 5 star airline but is nothing short of mediocre at best. The priorities of the owners are in the wrong place and are too focused on investors and shareholders instead of customer experience and employee satisfaction. The domestic fleet is ancient and drastically needs to be modernized and is holding back the airlines success. The old fleet creates a lot of headaches for passengers and employees alike.
I haven't flown since last year, was shocked to find last month when I booked that air Canada doesn't include a carryon on their base fare. Absolutely ridiculous. When they vowed to reach $30B in revenue, I think they decided to just do it by adding 25% to all their prices.
The "airline industry" in the past seemed to mainly revolve around getting into the playground via political pull or regional mal-service/ customer dissatisfaction re gubmint TCA verging on open rebellion. Trans Canada Airlines/ Air Canada would eventually "buy out" anyone who tried to become more than token competition. Which was the overall expectation from day one. Their summing up slogan by experienced customers once was "First In The Air, Worst On The Ground". lol
While I do agree with you, it is ridiculous, but both Porter and Westjet do the same when it comes to their base fares. You have to book the next fare up to get a carry on bag, so AC is no different, but nobody complains when another airline does this.
Lower costs=destroy lives with mass redundancies and make the people who are left people work even harder
Thank you Dj!!
Air canada is an embarrassment, not to canada because we are happier than a pig in you know what to do that to ourselves unprompted. but to the aviation industry. I had a trip planned, the total route was YHZ-YYZ-LAX-DXB and then return. it took me 15 mins (and a small mountain of cash) to upgrade my seat with emirates, by just calling them. to book my air canada ticket, I had to book through the app, which didn't register correctly, I had to book another ticket, and then i had to call them because there was an issue with they said my ticket didnt have baggage... even though i bought the ticket fare with bags included... it took me 4.5 hours on hold, to get to a SECOND "press 2 for english" menu. Air canada follows in the great canadian tradition of former crown corporations that haven't changed how they operate since the government owned them, that it makes the libertarian nutbar with a dozen illegal guns in various holes in the woods seem reasonable. its genuinely pathetic, and honestly ive heard people where i live natter on about wanting to nationalize it again... which, i just cant.
Just flew Air Canada. Booked business, but was downgraded to economy at the gate. Was only offered air miles as a refund even though I paid cash. That's Air Canada.
That’s low of them.
@@Michael_Livingstone That's Air Canada though. Like Lowblow's is for groceries...Porter is the only decent if not limited choice from what I've seen from local people reviewing it here in Edmonton... /s
Was the aircraft downgraded?
Air Canada covers the world very well, they even fly to Algeria and Morocco. They fly nonstop to India and Singapore as well as Hong Kong and Tokyo. They cover deep South America very well to Sao Paulo, Santiago & Buenos Aires. Europe almost a domestic flight they fly to London Heathrow 20 times daily in the summer. About the only major missing place is South Africa. Toronto to Johannesburg and Capetown would complete the Air Canada route map.
they are arrogant and think they are the best.......they are actually the worst. I travel from YYZ and when i need 2 fly, domestic or international, i NEVER EVER fly AC !
Are some legacy carriers making concerted efforts to be crowned the worst airline? I have seen complaints about Qantas, BA, Lufthansa, KLM, Austrian, Swiss, and now Air Canada. Maybe you need to look at whether there is a larger, industry-wide, problem rather than just looking at individual carriers.
Rouge only exists to try to destroy competition. They want to close competitive gaps in the leisure sector but when Summer season comes they want to inflict rouge on domestic routes. Rouge is crap. Porter as a domestic carrier kicks AC to the curb and domestically boring middle of the road Westjet is a superior solution but only when comparing to such a low standard of performance. Your comment about being left high and dry says more about Canadian non-existent consumer protection than it does about Air Canada but hey welcome to the club. Air Canada does what poor regulation allows.
Swhat aircraft will replace the B737 fleet other then the A321 and A220 acquisitions. They will need aircraft that slot in between those 2 models for their main fleet.
FINALLY. Someone who says it as it is. Air Canada sucks! Haven’t used them for years. I don’t really fly within the country, and when I fly to Europe from Edmonton I use KLM. Air Canada service doesn’t even come close!
Air Canada is horrendous. Any time I fly with another airline the service is noticeably better
Porter is the best outside of maybe your Northern Canadian carriers where that stuff still is important... And where meals are always provided for free and are of quality. If you ever visit Iqaluit, Yellowknife or Whitehorse avoid AC, WJ flights and spend the little extra on the local option believe me it's way better.
I love how Calgary isn't on their map.... I'll probably never fly air Canada again unless I just have to many Aeroplan points..... I'd rather fly Porter
They put the seats so close together I'm forced into premium products 😢
they need better lounges... the lounges in YVR and YYZ are the worst ive ever seen. i literally rather not be in the lounge.
Canadians have a high tolerance for incompetance, corruption and malfeasance, Air Canada reflects this in everything they do. "We're not happy, untill you're not"
Would love to see AGP-YYZ. There's only one flight between AGP and North America
That will never happen. Sorry to burst your bubble. Maybe with Air Transat but I never see Air Canada flying there. Too small of a market.
I'm Canadian like the majority of Canadians I to avoid Air canakrap
38 Billion in revenue? Maybe start with industry standard pay... Them Dash 8 pilots get paid less than substitute teachers.
I'll believe it when l see and fly it. I'm tiered of flying in their loud dirty old junk
I will avoid boeing jets.
As a Canadian, I avoid Air Canada at all costs. WestJet is my preferred airline for now until Porter expands in western Canada.
Yikes! WJ is the worst! Last time I flew it was like the whole airline was run by Mean Girls... HARD PASS. I'll take bored and disinterested but professional any day...
With all that's going on I'd really be happy if Air Canada dumped all its Boeing products into the trash where they belong and dedicated itself on building an entirely Airbus fleet focused principally around the Bombardier C-Series aka Airbus A220 since it's the right-sized plane for almost every route except for REALLY busy ones and long-haul international... If it's on the continent or a quick hop over the ocean to Hawaii from Western Canada or Europe from Eastern Canada? Than it's probably the best overall choice even for routes pushing hard against that 6300 km range...
You sound like you're simply reading verbatim from an AC report...
Makes these plans, Boeing? No thanks.
Mapleflot's M.O.
1. Engage in predatory tactics against Canadian competition.
2. Ask the Canadian government to bail them out financially.
Problem for a/c is that they're focusing too much in their 3 hubs!! Those hubs are maxed out macking the on time performance plummet! They should focus on expanding their network throughout Canada with their other let's call them "b" hubs like Ottawa and quebec city and Winnipeg! With those new aircraft it will be achievable and will see a better on time performance
Why have they not ordered the 777-10? Anyone know why?
Boeing has never offered a 777-10.
@ X is the Roman Numeral for 10. I thought that is what Boeing meant by 777-X?
@@cherifbar 777X refers to the upcoming new generation of the triple seven. Boeing may offer two models, the 777-8 and 777-9. It’s possible that there could be a 777-10 but for now it does not exist. AC has ordered the 787-10 (Dreamliner) but of course that’s a different plane.
@ thanks
I don't know but I do guess it have more to do with Air Canada being less optimistic about future traffic stability(not necessarily demands problems but competition with Asian Carriers) which 77W class aircraft(A35K, 777X) are now touted "the new A380". Although they do have some older 77W(delivered 2008), making orders early to secure replacement does make sense for some airlines but some Anglophone airlines(like Air New Zealand) does prefer downguaging.
Air Canada can start by dropping their domestic prices.
They ruined my childhood in 2003 when a cleaner threw out my gameboy colour and all Pokémon games that accidentally got left behind. I'll never forget. We were not compensated.
HUUUUUUGE
I NEVER EVER FLY AIR CANADA NEVER
Air Canada retain supercontrol of market yes
you cannot have old cabin staff in new equipment stuff … one reduces the value of the other …
1st 😊
2nd✈️🛩️
toilet...horrid...lousy airline
New planes should all be Boeing models since the US is Canada's nearest neighbor.
Boeing should manufacture any aircraft in the first place...😂
Sometimes you have to choose quality. Airbus is just behind technologically in one area: the self-opening doors.
Airbus assemble in Canada and the USA as well so your comment doesn't make much sense.
Have you been living under a rock for the last few days? Donald Dumb wants a 25% tariff on all products imported into the US from Canada and you think any intelligent, educated and rational thinking person in Canada - especially businesses - is going to buy anything from the US? Especially since there are equally good or better products on the market. This also applies to aircraft manufacturers. If you are a US-American, the part about intelligent, educated and reasonable obviously does not apply to you. Otherwise you wouldn't have made such an absurd statement.
You know that if proximity is the issue here Airbus and Bombardier both manufacter in Canada if you know
