Hey man, Thanks for the video it's been a good help so far. I was just wondering if you had an issue where you have to constantly reinstall the drivers to use the dock?
I did have an issue with the drivers not installing properly UNTIL I fixed error 43, after the error 43 solution the drivers installed and stayed installed perfectly normal!
I have had my setup for a couple of weeks now. Took a while to get the AOOSTAR to ship. I had ordered it on November and finally got it like on the 18th of January. It was prob a good thing because I did get upgraded to the 800 watz power adapter. By the way I have a 4070 super installed with it and it works great. No issues at all.
Awesome video bro! I just got mine a few days ago and went through hell trying to figure out how to set everything up with my rog ally x. I have a Rx 7800 XT and the z1 extreme chip on the ally doesn't work properly with amd cards so I literally had to side load the 780m drivers onto the ally and then get the driver for the card and after all that, everything now works properly lol. Still I can't complain since the performance is honestly great considering it's TB4. Not sure if you noticed or not but I thought I'd just say that since the egpu does power out to the ally, you can plug in a dock to the other usb c port without any power and everything works while still charging the device at full power
@andrewantczak4637 hey thanks for the comment! I did read up on AMD drivers don't talk well with Asus drivers, glad you got it figured out! I might buy a AMD card and try to make a video discussing this issue, i might want to remake this video considering i tried to push this one out a little fast, I did forget to talk about the thunderbolt 4 and how that's the bottleneck of this whole setup, I woukd honestly like to buy another and try to tinker a TB 5 port i side the ALLY & eGPU That's would greatly improve performance!
@@HandheldHub why not just get a 4070 ? I can confirm the Egpu can handle it just fine. When I was researching what Egpu to buy and what Graphics card to buy for it. I decided to go with Nvidia to avoid all that hassle of side loading the drivers. I have seen people use a 4090 and it works. But that's over kill since you will be bottlenecked by the thunderbolt 4. The 4070 hits that sweet spot. I am gaming at 1440p and with everything on Max on most games I am getting over 100fps. Black myth Wukong, Marvel Rivals, ect..ect.
@javierfernandez7168 hey Javier! I was mentioning getting an AMD card so I could showcase the issue that lie ahead, I personally prefer nvidia aswell, always and forever. I am using my dusty 3090 ti FE right now and it also works great! I would want a 4070 for the Ada Lovelace AI VS the 30 series uses ampere arch. As well as 40 series have better rtx ability, and it would slightly less power drawn from the eGPU I'd go ahead and say that would equal to more battery life out of this 800w psu we got.
@HandheldHub that's a good idea. Also haven't mentioned it but props on the video bud. I wish there was a way to post a pic of my setup here so people get an idea of how everything is setup. I am loving being able to play in handheld then just dock it and I have a very powerful PC.
@javierfernandez7168 maybe if i get enough people I can get pictures of their setup and compare how everyone has diffrent taste and needs! Thanks for the comment and likes!! More videos based on this setup to come soon, I'm actually moving and gotta redo my setup so this woukd be a perfect time!
Bro I have the exact same setup except a 4070 super. I wish I would have seen this video a week ago. I had all the headaches that you did. Nice set up once you get a tweaked. My only issue right now is my monitor won't go over 60 hz and it's a G-Sync. I think it's cuz I'm not using data port cable. I have data port to HDMI but that wasn't work
@jasonkemp2853 it might be a monitor issue? Which monitor do you have? I have a 160hz monitor and mine shows it performs at 160hz! Did you also change refresh rate settings for your monitor in the advanced display settings?
@jasonkemp2853 hdmi cable shouldn't be an issue, but as I do use a display port since it's new model than the HDMI I feel I gain slight gains over the HDM8
Ima get the 800w version and pair it with the 7800xt. I will be using a rog ally x as well. This will be my way into desktop pc gaming. I’ll stick to controller though lol. I’ve tried m&k on my brothers gaming rig but I just can’t get into it.
@jasonpolanco3153 for me I played a mmo that made it easier with MnK, before that I couldn't even type correctly honestly, it was a giant change but I'm glad I picked up the skill, in your freetime just practice here and there you'll never know you might up enjoying it! That's awesome you can now start PC gaming! If you need any help let me know! I've built tons of PCs
Once you are connected to the external display, are you manually turning off your Ally display? Also, are you shutting down your Ally X BEFORE you dissconnect it from the EGPU? I have the same EGPU and I had to reinstall my Ally drivers because they were acting wonky when I returned to handheld mode. I know it was user error, I just want to make sure I always follow the proper sequence to keep everything happy.
@Downgrade13 Hello! I did have that issue the first time I disconnected the usbc from the rog ally while it was all turned on, but as of recently I hadn't have that issue you are describing, but I turn off my rog ally, then turn off the eGPU and then disconnect the usbc !
@HandheldHub i appreciate the reply. I just subscribed, hope to see new videos. So far, you are the only one to really show what the setup takes to get going.
The way you should do it is turn on the Egpu first then your handheld. To disconnect. Turn off the handheld first then power down the Egpu. Also create a custom setting on your Rog ally and turn off anything to do with graphics. No FSR. Turn everything off. It don't play nice with the NVIDIA drivers. Also don't forget to go back and switch to your normal Ally X graphic settings whenever you want to play in handheld.
You’re not the first person you’re just maybe that type of person doing a review product a lot of UA-camrs already reviewed the product at least three UA-camrs already did review it so you’re not the first UA-camr that review the product. You probably never seen it.
Worst video I ever seen. I don’t like this video dog crap no FPS counter dog crap with the FPS counter no dog crap so definitely I’ll give it thumbs down for this video. You deserve nothing. You deserve. No credit for for sponsoring this video.
Holy shit who cares? At least he's reviewing it and giving good information. It's hardly something you should be bashing for someone just putting information out. It's not like he's a pro or something. Give it a break.
I don’t know why the company decides to put a powerful power supply up to 800 W. I want to be 400 W why they put a stupid wattage that makes me complain because I don’t need that much power because I had to deal with too much bills that I had to paybecause I wanna have at least 400 W or 300 W so I’m not gonna buy that stupid product I don’t need a stupid graphic card that I don’t need to put that has less power and the price is just too expensive so I had to buy a different external EGPU
I got the same one mine came last week

Have you sorted out your issue?

I think I have the same issue. My 77" oled is 120hz, and it's only showing 60hz at 4k. My HDMi cable is capable.
