Honestly, Liam writing J to be V’s shadow with how they both initially wanted to carry out the mission to get away from the Solver, only to have J stick around because she’s such a corporate brownnoser was a stroke of genius. So when V beats her, she finally beats the part of herself that was tied down by her fear of Cyn and can now allow herself to be happy and free.

One small thing I wanna add is that I personally read the “I never needed either of you.” line as J just blatantly lying to herself to suppress any negative feelings about turning on her previous comrades. She already did a similar thing earlier in the episode telling herself she’s fine, when she’s clearly pissed.

She looks sad, even pained when saying, "If I promised you anything... it tricked me too."
She most likely didn't like that Tessa was never alive with them, nor how things were but knew that (in her case at least) it was pointless. Fight back, she'll either get violently tortured by Cyn or taken control of and forced to fight her friends.

@@admiralstone2456 That is true, but it's just one look in one scene. It's a very small thing at the end of the series. V also got scenes like that showing that she does care about N, but those were early, more than 1 and in by the end we got more direct confirmation of what she feels. Wish that were true for J too.

Tessa got worse in my opinion, she tried to save the day and save everyone at the gala and then she got brutally murdered and then her body was used a skin suit by a drone she brought to Elliot manor.
she also watched her only friends get corrupted and watched them kill everyone and she was constantly locked up and chained by her parents which is pretty horrible.
At least J is alive and at least she has a chance to make her life better, Doll had it bad too but not as bad.
Edit: at least Doll's parents actually seemed to care about her when she was alive based on how she tries to avenge there deaths, and her ultimate fate is kind of her own fault for pushing everyone else away and trying to get the key bug herself.

Cyn had made a deal with J and V that if they carried out their duties, she would leave them alone. However, after being killed by UZI and having their corpse puppeteered into an eldritch worm thing, she returned as a clone with Cynessa posing as Tessa. I wished for a better ending for J.

Just like Sutekh94, you provide an interesting perspective with J.
A good question that can be raised for J could honestly be…if she even has an admin. With Cyn unfortunately dying, would Uzi technically be her admin now? With how Liam was open to more possible stories in the future, J being left alive is a good avenue for that.

  • @Lodzkie_mapping

Everyone talks about how Doll is a complete oposite mirror of Uzi but nobody really talks about how J is the oposite of V.
    Hear me out.
V and J both knew about Cyn skinning tessa and that earth was completely destoyed. So they really had 2 options here. Either they will obey the solver or try to rebel against it.
V despite being on Cyn's side for a while, she was still trying to plan on how to fight back and keep N safe. Heck, after episode 3 V joined the good side cause she knew that the only way of ending her nightmare of a life is to fight back against it. She wasnt completely loyal to Cyn.
Now J on the other hand wasnt even eager to rebel against it. She stayed loyal to the solver. She believed that the only way to keep herself safe is to obey to cyn. J knew that she was doing the wrong thing (killing all worker bots) but she also knew that she didnt have any chances of fighting back against Cyn. The solver completely tricked her.
Also to even further prove my point, V had a good ending to her story, everyone liked her in the end.
But J didnt really have a nice ending to her story. I believe that no one likes her anymore. She has nobody around her, not N, not V, not even Cyn. J (as we see in the end credits) is just repairing the spaceship...
    ...
    alone,
with no one by her side.

Honestly haven't watched the video yet but I kinda hate the way j was handled. She didn't need a redemption and she didn't get one which is fine. But there are so many tiny things in episode 8 that really bring her down, To name a couple.
J was pretty intimidating in the first part of the episode and not willing to switch sides which was great, But then she uttered the line "It tricked me too" Almost as if they wanted to redeem her but stepped out last second
One other problem is that in the final fight J is a punching bag getting knocked out by a gun and not landing a single hit on our main trio
J wasnt perfect (No MD Robots are) (Except for the teacher) But if they just had changed a little bit how she was handled her I think it would be great.

She would help if she wasn't plagued with Cyn's admin perms. N and V had theirs revoked and turned to Uzi's at the end of ep5, but J's were still under Cyn. If she tried to rebel, Cyn could just lock her under her direct control and use her to attack the team, kinda like how Cyn was trying to get N to do in ep7 during the flashback scene.
J really had no choice, and saying things like "it tricked me too" and "I promise it's better on the winning team", showed that J had effectively given up on defying Cyn. Asides from being mutilated for disobeying like how N was in the finale, she and her former human superiors had lost everything, Tessa being lost especially in J's case. She tried to save V by winning her back over, but was refused and came off in what clearly sounded like frustrated betrayal, "I never needed either of you."
J's a good (if a bit misguided and cowardly) girl, but there was nothing she could do on her side of things. She'd be forced or gutted if she tried to resist. And on her fighting, J did put up more of a fight than in ep1, holding out better than when Uzi stabbed her with a pen on her nanite acid headpiece. Sure, she landed minor hits at most, such as a hit or two on V, but still.

Overall now that I've read this I do agree theres not much that J could have done except in the finale where she could have gotten the last laugh over cyn

I personally liked the way J was handled in this series, and I'm somewhat glad she didn't get a redemption arc.
When there were theories coming out regarding J having a redemption arc, my first question was, 'why?' Why would J of all people help the worker drones after they hid from her, killed her, and just made her life harder. I think the biggest smoking gun that such arc wouldn't happen was the banner that promoted the episode, which showed J and Can side-by-side. In a way I liked that, and I fell like it would have been cheep if they redeemed her without proper buildup.
When it comes to J as a character, boiled down, beyond her friendships with V and Tessa, she is only three things. She's a try-hard, a narcissist, and a coward. We saw from the beginning that J favored her superiors over her friends any day of the week, no matter what she felt about them. At the same time, she was scared of what would happen to her if she didn't follow orders.
This didn't start with Cyn however. In episode 5, we see that J helped Tessa escape after Cyn began her plan. But, we see that J was also chained up, but we also see that she unchained herself! This means that J was willing to follow Tessa's parents over Tessa, and only helped her because it was for the greater good.
In the present day, the worst in J began to show. As leader o the squad, she was a strict commander who punished N for the smallest infractions and slip-ups. When N began to question the motives of what they were doing, all she did was try to get rid of him, knowing what would happen if she let him know the truth. I think as the first villain of the series, this worked very well, as we see what kinds of people are in control in this world, and the kind of competition our heroes are up against. At the same time, we also saw her try everything just to be recognized by her superiors, showing her try-hard nature.
Personally speaking, I'm somewhat fascinated in the fact that J had so little screen time. I say this because, she acts at the opposite to V. Where V had survived and was able to grow past her tunnel-visioned ways, slowly understanding what she was doing was wrong, and going closer to Uzi, J didn't. J didn't change. Se didn't get a wake-up call that what she was doing was wrong. This is where the coward part comes in. J was scared on Cyn, I an odd irony to how J kept locking her in the basement. J thought that Cyn couldn't be defeated, and was just an inevitable force of nature destined to destroy the universe. In that mindset, what was the use in fighting back? She saw as humanity was driven to extinction, despite their best efforts, and she saw how Tessa was killed by the Solver. But, what could she do about it?
At the very least, all J thought she could do was to follow orders obediently, and hope that her new master felt merciful. With Cyn acting as her boss, it ultimately brought out the worst in her, as her delusions for power over friends took over, and she grew more and more malicious. Which means that, when V stood up to her, J saw it at V betraying her, and not her betraying V. Hence her statement, "I never needed either of you." In her mind, N and V were holding her back, being a pointless reminder of a life she can't get back. They had grown soft and attached to the worker drones. They grew weak in her eyes.
But, despite her loyalty and dedication, Cyn didn't care. When J was knocked out of the final battle, Cyn didn't seem bothered about it. At the same time, when the fight was over, J was left with nothing. She put all her eggs in one basket, and Cyn's death dropped said basket. Remember, she told V, "I never needed either of you." Based on her brief moment in the credits, it seems V and N took that to heart. If she didn't need them then, why would she need her now? As stated in this video, no one is helping her repair the landing pod. N didn't act selfless and try to help. V didn't try to mend the bond between them. Tessa didn't magically come back. Cyn didn't even say a word about her. Uzi doesn't seem like she wants to help anytime soon. At this point, she pushed everyone she ever knew away, and it acts as karma.
I heard somewhere that it's easy to die for your mistakes, but it's difficult to live with them. In a way, this happened to J, and is the ultimate irony. Of all the villains in the show, and despite being the first to die, J was the only villain to survive the entire series in an undeniable way. But, because of that, she has to live with the choices she made, and the consequences that come from them.
Despite being free from Cyn, she didn't;t get a happy ending. And that wasn't anyone's fault. It was her's.

    • @admiralstone2456
      @admiralstone2456 29 днів тому

Not entirely, while she is definitely a bit of a coward (partly due to her corporate bootlicker traits), she still did care. If anything her time in the Elliott manor probably taught her to not defy authority, and only gained some confidence to do so when Tessa had her free them both.
And in the case of Cyn, we know J absolutely does not like her, but when your "boss" has the ability to essentially make you her bitch (J had Cyn's admin keys in her system), to force you to obey or make you do things against your will, it makes sense to not rattle the demon pulling your strings. J most certainly wanted to help, as she did try to get V back on her side, but she couldn't fight for the right team, as she had a chain at her neck to keep her from disobeying.
So in a way, Cyn was partially at fault here, at least. J really had no choice.

      @@admiralstone2456
I like how you bring that up!
I think the point I was trying to go for was that V and N somehow rebelled, and J had every motive to, but couldn’t.
I think your point explains what J feared if she fought back, which is one of the backbone reasons as to why she didn’t. What I was saying here was that V fought back and did the right thing, but not J, despite the two having similar risks.
Both of them had chains around their necks attached by Cyn, but V still chose to break her’s. J didn’t.
That’s part of her tragedy. She was forced to work for someone she hated, but put her above everyone she could have called a friend.

ah, a positive analysis of J, a breath of fresh air
i've been thinking about this subject off and on for a few days lately and finally decided to watch this video. i do think J is a tragic character in disguise, and most people just didn't see it, at least not at first (including me). she's scared and feels trapped, like she has no other options that won't result in more torture from the solver (like what N and V have experienced), so she's doing all of this because, in her head, futility is fatality. which is a mindset V originally had, but she rebelled over time. J, did not. and ig that just plays more into their similarities, but their differences resulted in them choosing different paths. and i _do_ think all of that's what liam wanted to convey in an indirect and subtle way, but most missed it.
even so, J's character suffers a lot from not enough screen time and not enough on-screen character development. still a good character tho, imo
tho i am curious as to what J is doing fixing that pod...

imo what screwed J in episode 8 was lack of explainiton (20 minutes yall, just 20. damn. minutes.) it would only need an aboult 2 minute cutscene.
the cutscene consists of the trio's first days as DD's, J is still furious aboult all that's happening, she wants to avenge tessa and correct her failure at the gala with every fiber of her metallic body, and she vigorously tries it, over. and over and over again. her last attacks are close to being religious at this point, but cyn finaly gets enough of J, so she torments her enough to break J, the character known for her loyalty for those she cares aboult no matter the odds' will, finanly making her to plead for mercy. which would also effect V as now she is even more scared of cyn than ever before so she keeps quiet and follows the orders, not wanting to share the same fate as J, nor wanting N to suffer the same fate as J, and speaking of N, he is... fine he gets his memories wiped out all the time, which is another point of J's dislike towards N, not having the bliss of not knowing a thing
and thats it folks, i fixed the problem of J siding with cyn, not only that but also i expended upon V and cyn! y'all can thank me later!

There's a good few small details and pieces here and there that can essentially be a collective answer, from my looks of it:
-Tessa is dead (obvious point)/Earth is destroyed, and on "Tessa"'s arm, the Human/UN insignia patch has some strikes through the center planet, and all but one of the six smaller stars, implying that Copper 9 is the only one left in Cyn's way. Being next to "Tessa", J most likely could have seen this at least once. It's most likely that with the knowledge of Tessa being dead, Earth lost and Cyn practically dominating whatever is left of her superiors' society, J probably didn't believe in them winning with all that in mind, broken by the loss they were now facing.
-Admin perms. J, like N and V, had Cyn as their admin. While the latter two got theirs changed thanks to Uzi and her hacking, J didn't, meaning she was vulnerable to Cyn's efforts at taking control. We see Cyn try and do this with N in ep7, but it fails as Cyn is not able to gain control nor override Uzi's perms.
-Cyn's violent torture. Seeing what Cyn was doing to N during the start of the final fight (ripping him to pieces and tearing him open and all that), J most likely didn't want to be done in like how N, V, and most likely J herself were at the manor. The horror and violence they endured was very much traumatic for them, as N and V's flashbacks show, so of course J wouldn't want to risk being taken apart like her colleagues were at the moment, and that's assuming Cyn doesn't take control of her instead.
Sure, there could've been an extra moment or two making these points more obvious in a different way, but I like how they handled it overall.

the final fight in he Pilot could of been a random in Dissassembly Drone in her nothing would change. J had little if any impact on the other character or the show besides funny company drone.Any character development episode 5 was almost completely undone in 8. We really don't see her relationship with Tessa enough before and after her death to really to her feelings and have meaningful impact on the show.Imagin if N or Uzi was taken out of the show it change unpredictability.

@@4realm8rusirius I agree. It could have been any drone, but I said I took Js absence litterally. For that, there wasn't another drone there to take her position. Same with V, In Literal events, J was the one who rebooted N.
In the final fight J served as the counterpoint of V. J and V were the same when it comes to "company" loyalty. Since V refused Js' offer to join Cyn, it shows the character growth via a standstill entity.
Her significance is in Lore and unseen story. Granted we don't see enough of her to make her significant in the seen story. But her as a character does enough to matter. Some peoples' favorite character is J.
