    I've owned my interceptor for six months, back into riding after thirty five year. Bought mine after watching many very positive reviews ( missenden flyer ), and completely agree with your glowing assessment of this bike. ( completely unbeatable at its price point ).

      The build quality is not on the level of any major brand motorcycle. The exhaust system has rust inside right from the factory. The wheels are painted or plasti-coated steel. It's a cheap bike and the build is equally cheap. They do have nice colors, I'll give them that. It's Indian manufacturing, not English or German or American and certainly not Japanese. I would say the quality is somewhat like Chinese quality... hence the price.

      We Indian buy bikes which can be decent performer atleast for 10 years minimum for cheap 100 cc bikes and it's 650 ...
      In India many people uses his dad's bikes ...
      They are not reliable like Japanese... But after that they are best as a low cost bikes .. even sometimes they beat some European products.. because middle class Indian live their daily life's with bikes ... My friend have 15 years old pulsar 150 ...
      May be we lack behind technology but after Japanese we prefer economic longivity Indian bikes or high technology European products... But many European company failed in India because their maintenance cost is high .. also they try to make cheap which effect their reputation...
      Except for company like Tesla .. now many indian company is far better then American company...
      Just buy Mahindra XUV 700 or XUV 300 .. you will realise it after 10 years ...
      Also my first preference is Japanese.. after that indian ...
      European company somehow forget what people need ... We don't need too much electronics.. we don't need 800 cc bikes ...
      A mt25 is enough powerfull products... Even for roaming the city and county side a 150 cc bikes is enough...
      Somehow I like Vespa scooter...

    If you are struggling to find neutral, most likely, the clutch cable is too slack. Great bike!

    • @markcard7978
      @markcard7978 3 роки тому +2

      That is what I found as well, the clutch cable has a more narrow working window than my previous bikes. A couple turns and night and day return to snick snick gear changes. The light pull however so so much a relief, makes my arthritis less an unwanted intrusion on stop and go and the long rides...

  • @AudreyH48

    Fellow 2020 Baker Express Interceptor owner here, I agree with the review also! I haven't had any issues with the shifter at all, so might be the novice side showing a bit there, and I actually think it's one of the best transmissions I have ridden. I have the TEC levers, Stinger 2-1 exhaust (which is fantastic, sheds loads of weight and adds mid range umph), DNA filter, booster plug, a set of Saddle bags (the triangle leather ones from India) Royal Enfield touring seat but the one like the Cont GT style (HUGE improvement, even makes the suspension feel smoother) R.E. Tall fly screen, Renthal Bars (actually a big weight saving), Oxford heated grips retro style, and bar end mirrors.
    I've done a few thousand miles and do all the maintenance myself. Very easy to work on, very simple. I think that's the nicest thing about it, it's simple. It fires up and goes. It's a enjoyable ride too. Next to the Int. in my garage is a Ducati Supersport S and that bike has all the electronic gizmos expected and is a thrill of a bike of course but the RE is so charming and enjoyable, if it came down to it and I could only have one, it might just be the R.E. I double up with a passenger in the summertime and can still do 70-75mph down the freeway if wanted, although it is a bit happier in the 65mph range I would say.
    Yeah overall these are such a bargain for what you get and I really think manufacturers need to take notice. It's approachable but with enough power to get down the freeway safely while being priced right.

      Totally agree if I had to have just one bike regardless of price I'd keep the Interceptor. If I wanted it to do something more I'd just add whatever it was I wanted from it and have it fitted. It's the perfect blank canvass with a timeless appearance. It has good DNA to start with.

      The standard suspension is just fine....strong, good handling and totally ride-able....it's built to a price point however so it's not fair to expect Ohlin's performance at this cost level. The real beauty of this bike is you can ride it the whole time you're making improvements to personalize and improve whatever you want. More power? Can be done and the basic motor can take about double what it puts out as stock. RE put their money in a solid well sorted frame and engine and many people are completely happy with the bike bone stock. Some of us love to tinker and improve things and this is the perfect platform to work on with servicing designed in to be simple and easy rather than so complicated it needs to go back to the dealer with special tools to service. The basic tool kit provided with the bike can do a LOT of what needs done...so someone without extensive tool chest would only need a few other sockets and wrenches to do everything to the bike. Love the Interceptor!

    My interceptor has always been really easy to find neutral with. I have also had a flat rear tyre, and found removal of the rear wheel very easy. I'm not sure if having tubed tyres had anything to do with my puncture, but I feel like it probably didn't.
    I also put in a high flow air filter and after market exhaust (AEW TE102) and I think that it did make a sort of noticeable difference in power, and definitely made the bike feel smoother at high rpm where it previously felt choked and strained.

    One of the main RE selling points is the affordable price. But if you then swap out the seat, the shocks, the fork cartridges, the mufflers, the mirrors, the wheels and the tires, now you are up in the Triumph Street Twin price range. And the Triumph offers ride modes, 20 more horsepower, a better dealer network, and superior fit and finish. My conclusion is if you want a retro bike but don't have much money, get the Interceptor. If you can afford it, the Street Twin is a much better bike.

    Isn’t there a flaw here. You buy an Interceptor for c£6k and spend c£2.5k to get it to ride as you would like. So, basically you have bought a £8.5k Interceptor. Now compare that for example to the new Trident at £7.2k and it doesn’t look like value does it.

      @suereed 4 роки тому

      A flaw indeed.
      It's money one would be hard pressed to get any return on in the event of selling. Punters would rather buy a cheaper bike with knackered tyres, chain and sprockets, than a bike that's had money spent on it. They sure as hell won't pay extra for your "upgraded" suspension and catalogue doo dads.

      Hi there, the bike isn't too bad to move around. You can feel its weight, but it'll hop up on the centre stand pretty easily. There was no rust on the bike at all, but I do keep it inside and dry so maybe not best to comment on that side. As Neo says below, changing the pipes removes a LOT of weight from the back end.

    Thanks for the video. It would be interesting if you post links to the modifications that Gareth made... and an idea of the cost. If the cost of the mods was reasonable, and given the low purchase price, the result could well be a very nicely set up bike for the money.

    Neutral selection problem.
    Adjust the free play on the cable so it’s about 3mm & that should solve the selection problem. Also the adjustment on the TEC levers makes a difference, even by one click once you’ve adjusted the cable. Seems the Interceptor has a lot less free play than other bikes. Hope that helps

    Hardly the bikes fault if it got a puncture. And no less likely to happen with tubeless tyres.

    • @Alanroch51
      @Alanroch51 3 роки тому +2

      My thoughts too. In my experience tubed tyres have been less prone to puncture than tubeless. I have ridden many bikes since I started in 1967, covering more than 100 thousand miles, all on tubed tyres and I will concede to maybe having just one puncture. However, in the last 10 years on my tubeless shod Yamaha I have worn out 9 sets of tyres over 50 thousand miles and the rears have always punctured at least once, normally twice or three times. Only had one puncture in the front. I carry a tyre repair kit and tiny electric pump tucked under the seat. Maybe the likelihood of picking up a nail or screw has increased in the last few years but for whatever reason I will stick with tubeless because I can at least do a temporary repair at the roadside.

Imagine stuck in a remote country like tajikistan where there is no RE dealership around... How will you get a newwheel??? U only have one choice... Repair ur current wheel

    I've always thought about doing my bike licence but never got round to doing it.
    Saw the Royal Enfield Interceptor online one day and just wanted one!
    Hoping this year to get round to doing my test and hoping the Interceptor will be my first bike!
    Great price, great power and it looks awesome, add some slip ons and it sounds amazing!
    Think it's a bike i would keep too. I love the whole retro bike thing right now and think the royal enfield is the best looks and sound. It's not always about power.
    I'd like a 2 bike garage so would get something totally different to sit alongside i think in the future.

    Enjoyed the review however not sure that a puncture is a major problem with the bike? I will be happy if thats the only major thing that goes wrong with my RE. Maybe the continentals are a softer compound tire than the Pirellis. Just a thought. Cheers

    Unfortunately, being 74 (with COPD and Asthma) and constantly sheltering (plus: getting severe double vision for 4 months, literally, within days of buying mine! 🥴), I’ve spent 2020 with my Interceptor sitting in my garage, with 37 miles on the clock, connected to an Optimate.

    spokes dont give rise to punctures unless they are too long! I disagree with the other `theories` not based on fact or experience. If I was in the middle of nowhere I would rather change a tube than locate, plug and reinflate a tubeless tyre. (I don`t rely on sticking patches....carry a tube)

    I checked out the exact same bike last week at the RE dealership. I started it up and it immediately spat rusty water right out of the mufflers... I mean a lot of rusty water. Apparently RE uses untreated plain steel for the exhaust system, there is no stainless anywhere in it. Not an impressive thing to have a brand new motorcycle with no miles on it spitting rusty water out of the exhaust right on the showroom floor... I suppose you get what you pay for. It's a nice looking bike but the quality of the build is many steps down from a Triumph or any major brand bike.

      The way the bike rides from the factory is more than adequate and most people will love it. It's a matter of test riding one and seeing for yourself... If Paul Young (the development rider for RE) set it up the way it comes from the factory you know it's better than most people can ride.
