The ups and downs of a life in the music business can be brutal. However, over the years I've noticed a pattern. Am I alone?
Great video mate, I felt every word!
I can’t express enough how thankful I am for your sincerity and sensitivity. I feel like giving up on my UA-cam journey. Just doesn’t seem to be working for me…but this video just gave me a little bit more life.
This is so relatable Jon! Appreciate you sharing your journey. The “back to reality” phase after a big placement or two is so true, but to your point, if you look at where you started, you’re much further along than you once were
Video is worth watching a couple of times every year. Thanks for sharing. I hear hope.
Thank you!
I seem to have skipped phase 2 sadly and still have to keep up a day job. I still love making music and will keep going even if it's just for pleasure.
Congratulations on the 20k subs.
Oh, oh
Oh, o-oh
Hey I don’t know where I land in your video continuum, but You asked me to share your “amateurish” one; I did, and my music nerd bud was really encouraged. Thanks for your work. May the algorithm be ever in your favor.
Only 24k subs? The Most underrated UA-camr! Keep on the great work, you inspire me! :)
I have scored a couple of national TV ads here in Ireland. But the work is slow and having other commitments (and 2 other jobs) means I can't dedicate or consider it as a full time job. I certainly couldn't make youtube videos as I like my privacy but enjoy your watching yours. I've been working on an album of original songs for about 10 years and keep scrapping it. Wish I had a truck like that.:)
That's a really accurate depiction, especially the early years.
Thanks, Owen!
Another great video about an incredibly relatable topic. And congratulations on 20k subs!
Glad to know I'm not the only one who fathers like this:
"Watch out for razor blades."
"What are razor blades?"
"You'll know."
Looking forward to beach day Dad. 😅
Fully agree.
Some have that “one hit wonder” with a cute cat video. The rest of us are on that rocky road of “paying one’s dues”. We have to continuously take stock and alter/tweak the course.
Congratulations on the milestone of 20k subscribers! Next pause at 50k 🙂
Great video. As an "artist" I have found that it's important to be adaptable and at times take the foot of the gas and just let the wind carry you in the right creative direction. I do photography as well as music and I've made pretty good money in photography and when those projects come, I just grab on and put music to the side. Maybe one day music will provide a nice gust of wind to fill my sails, but you can't fight reality, gotta go with the flow. I do feel like the day may come that I have to more fully commit to one versus the other, but you never know.
this was a very relatable video Jon. My short story is that back in 2011 / 2012 I was writing and recording what would ultimately become my debutalbum, and I barely knew what I was doing at that time. I was supporting myself by working in a grocery store, so that is what I did all day, and then I went and spent all night in my studio. Without fail, every morning when I would lock up and leave at around 5am before the world would wake up I wondered what I was doing with my life, that I was wasting it because no one would ever hear these songs anyway etc. everyone else was getting proper educations with job security.
I'm really glad I stuck with it though, because songs from that album ended up in several major hollywood trailers and nationwide spots in the US within just a couple of months of releasing it, and it felt so surreal but more importantly that really gave me the confidence to keep on going. A decade and change has since past, and ups and downs are inevitable and a natural part of being a creative. just gotta keep sticking with it, try to keep the inspiration coming and working hard at being the best you can be. Thanks for a great topic for a video that made me reflect myself. Have a good weekend!
"you'll know" hahaha
I started my online creative career/Jorney as an online creative in 2012 when I was 16 and your story does resonate with me as it has much the same emotionally wise... Graph wise it's odd... But yeah today I do have a few thusnedish strong audience all things together and have a great deverse pafollio of 7k+ videos, almost 300 pixel art/Photogathy pieces, 1 self published book and I'm working on more, 2 TT games one in beta the other entering it, working on making video games and have started 2 but only 1 am I currently working on... And I have writen 2.5 songs and am just now getting really into sythizer music creation... Which my grapth is odd as I had a massive peak 10 years ago when my core genre was just about to die and it's been downhill since in views... But I am getting more and more video day one views and more sub/ those who watch regurly but don't sub... Also my other stuff is growing well... So yeah my stats are odd but I'm making them work!
I make music since over 15 years
I think If you have an absolute passion for music one day you will make it
I produce music for myself in first place and share it with the world
I never paid any money for any advertising... I know it will make my way longer but at the end I can say my music Made it ... Not Money
Great video! I can definitely feel the phase one and the looming question whether it's worth it. I had a glimpse of phase 2, not nearly as big, but I got into a series of projects, and it seemed like it was getting somewhere. But I got too comfortable, having advantage of a day job, and didn't build up momentum from there. So now I'm back to phase one again, and really thinking about my priorities this time.
I‘m a happy subscriber Jon. Just keep going, we’ll find many more.
Been having the very same debate with myself all week, and this video has just made it feel a whole lot better! Many thanks, Jon.
The illustrations are fantastic! Great job, kiddo... and you Jon, as always. 👍 Kudos on 20k!
Great stuff my friend! Very relatable as always. Congrats on hitting 20k, and many more milestones to come!
Jon, I truly appreciate your sincerity. In the microcosm of UA-cam, it’s very refreshing. Keep it up!
