    Another important consideration is the weekly or monthly rsi. I try to only buy calls when it’s at 40 or below. I also like strangles for earnings since I can make money either way the stock moves. I buy my call and put a week or two ahead out of the money and roll them closer when they loss money as the stock bounces around. You do need to end up close to the strike price so one of your options will be worth more than you lose on the other one. That strategy just paid off for me on QQQ for the fed meeting last week.

    Very interesting video but I think that you should also consider the contract multiplier when calculating vega profits. Call price 9.85 x 100 = 985 w/ 1% vega increase you make 20 bucks which is around 2% for the debit you paid. It would be hard for $AAPL IV to climb 50% so you can make that 100% on your risk.

  • @jonwilro
    @jonwilro Рік тому +2

    Would you say its a good theory to buy a call option on a stock shortly after earnings when implied volatility is low with an expiration that is approximately 45 days or so after the next earnings so you can avoid theta erosion or will that be too far away of an expiration to get the rise you hope for from the volatility/Vega?

    • @chimchu3232
      @chimchu3232 Рік тому +1

      Yes, it is a good idea imo, as long as you buy itm with a lot of time until expiration. I would do more than 90 days out because theta will be much less of a threat. I like to open debit spreads on quality companies after earnings because I can afford to buy ITM with time, and being a spread it hedges against theta decay anyway.

  • @davidpang484
    @davidpang484 Рік тому +5

    Nope... where is the risk management? And Theta is always against us. Now the Feb 17 90 call is $5.70. like 35% down

    Vola on Alphabet is already very high (price dropped from 104 to almost 91) and you have theta working against you all the time (your call is loosing value over time). This is basically gambling on Alphabet to raise over break even within a short period if time.

    I'm confused here. So the cost on the premium says $9.85.. so why are you saying it will be just under 1000? Is that because it will be $9.85 per share on the contract?
    That means the max loss would be the premium paid, of about $985 if things were to go south? Correct...?
    I'm already pretty familiar with options, I'm just trying to clarify what the numbers are telling me so I know what is what prior. It's a little misleading for brokers to say the price is $9.85... but not factoring in the other 99 shares on the contract at $9.85....making the total cost of the premium just below 1000..

    Interesting idea to leverage the pre-earning IV jump. It's well known that stocks have pre-earning runups. I think there is a way to further enhance your strategy. Using GOOGL 02/2023 $95c as an example, you can sell weekly Poor Man's Covered calls (PMCC) over $97 to further reduce the cost. On the other hand, GS/MS/JPM & other financials should report ERs before the next quarterly OE. Let me think about a similar strategy😊
