The word steams is between brackets. Everybody who followed the story of 4014 knows it won't be under steam before 2019. So no, no clickbait. Simply some nice footage of a awesome steamloc.
Great footage, yes they are towing the Big Boy, hence the facetious quotes in the title. Cool to see how they tow that big biz, and again, great shots my man!
Beautiful scenery and great photography. This seems to be quite a hot spot of activity. The railroad police must know a significant event is taking place so they cut you slack. It's nice to hear the rods clanking even though 4014 is dead in tow. It will be making plenty of noise on its own when restoration is complete.
Ironically UP does have a loco with 8444 on it & it was 844's number for a while cause there was a GP 30 with that number! the diesel is now at a railroad museum line in Boulder City, Nevada
That makes two of us. As I continue to watch, now I am beginning to understand why the locomotive engineers are becoming so short tempered. They have paparazzi hounding them: just like The Royal Family.
Has the UP released any more up to date info on the restoration? This video is coming up on 3 years old and I should think that UP would have at least passed a milestone or two by now.
American Locos seem to be forever sounding their horns (and that silly bell!). Here in New Zealand the trains barely ever sound the horns. UK similar. Is this a special safety thing in the US? do people not notice a train a couple of miles long and the height of a block of flats?
its the same in australia . freights just give a " toot " sometimes , then the americans get on with their " it should be one long , one short , whatever " , even if there is no-one around
yes, it IS a safety thing and no, American drivers don't pay attention to anything other than texting on their phones when they're behind the wheel. are there many road-grade crossings in New Zealand? I know the reason you don't hear them in Europe is because when Europe re-built after World War 2 they used under- and over-passes to reduce the chances of trains hitting cars. the horns are sounded when approaching grade crossings because so many idiotic American drivers refuse to accept that in a train-automobile collision, the train always wins. in my county, we can't go a year without some moron thinking he or she can get across the tracks before the train gets there to the point that they'll try to drive AROUND the gates. the end result is always the same: one less imbecile in my town. when someone DOES miraculously survive, their excuse is invariably "I didn't see the train coming!" in their minds lights, gates, bells, and horns (not to mention other motorists) are meaningless distractions interfering with their right to reach their destination.
All the "railfan" vids like this are at (or close enough to) grade crossings - which universally have the long-long-short-long rule, UNLESS they're built to be a "silent" crossing (specifics vary - but usually gates that cover both lanes on each side of the tracks, or a median barrier). On certain railroads (not 100% sure about UP), there are also rules about if you see people near the tracks that you give short warnings (essentially CYA rule, so if the other person causes an accident, they can't sue about "not knowing the train was coming"). As for the bell, well ... Yup, people are dumb and need every warning sound a locomotive can make in order to not let Darwin take care of the problem.
Come on guys! Are you really gonna troll because it's not actually "steaming" up the hill? I mean, the fact it was able to move at all was a miracle, after sitting stationary for decades! You can't just fire up an steam engine after that long being stationary. This video is when the Big boy was being moved to the shops to restore it, Sheesh! And if you want to know about what's happening with it, just search for up big boy restoration. This engine was in need of a Serious restoration, and basically it is being 30% to 40% completely replaced because of wear and tear and from sitting so long, so look it up
2:10, plain and simple . . . more often than not police AIN'T GOT SHIT BETTER TO DO than being harassing innocent people with decent law abiding hobbies.
welp lucky its did not derail like the SP diesel locos taht derail right off the cojan pass in 1989 here a link to see the history of it ua-cam.com/video/HnFmfystZRg/v-deo.html
N.E.Arkansas Trash Trucks&Lottery It's been out of service for over 55 years. You don't just fill'er up and jump start it like an old truck. how the heck do you expect it to get back to the railroad shops to be rebuilt? Maybe have FedEx fly it to the Cheyenne shops? Guess they never taught you what quotation marks can mean....particularly in a title.
It's being restored, and if I'm not mistaken, restoration is nearly complete. It's gonna be back on the rails under its own power sometime in late April or early May for testing. It's then going on an excursion run with 844 to Ogden, Utah May 9th.
Only a foamer would think a dispatcher is intentionally planning traffic around the foamer. They've got BIGGER things to worry about than screwing up a photo.
I imagine that there's a dose of sarcasm in the statement in question. I know I've had cause to mutter "Perfect effin' timing" while out railfanning here around Pittsburgh, so I can understand. And while I'm here, excellent video, Mr. Lytle.
Booked my flight and a motel in Ogden for May 10th! Coming from Germany to see the 4014 steamin' ! I cannot wait. :-)
The fact that nobody seems to understand what quotes are for makes me weep for the future of this planet.

I have to admit, I laughed out loud when I saw the procession of cars chasing the train. I never realized the scope of it.
That makes two of us. As I continue to watch, now I am beginning to understand why the locomotive engineers are becoming so short tempered. They have paparazzi hounding them: just like The Royal Family.
Worse than storm chasers.
we caught up with it @ Barstow and followed out into the desert, quite a show.
Nice video. What mountains are in the background?
4014 pulling 4014. Nice touch
Yeah. Caught that right away too. Funny no one else commented on that fact??
This is such a beautiful thing. Keep our steam programs alive!
Has the UP released any more up to date info on the restoration? This video is coming up on 3 years old and I should think that UP would have at least passed a milestone or two by now.
the big date for the golden spike is coming up soon. keep a eye on the train news
That a great image and camera work!! Nice camera too...
Big boy superbe locomotive une star du rail quelle merveille
8:47 I hear chugs. Is 4014 hiding a secret?
Ruke Onos No it's just air that went into the cylinders
I looooove your video ! Excellent work !
Now that the 4014 is upAnd Running the tough question is this how many more Engines are due to Run on their own power?
Didn't look like 4014 had any steam just along for the ride
The folks riding on 4014 and her tender have the best seats on the train.
i like the mountains scenic view
You've never seen air freight? ?
Why does that big boy always travel in the same convoy with the added UP cars?
Outstanding footage.
What is that mountain in the background?
Mt Baldy

12:10 Some day, on the same place you see 4014 without Diesel pass trought.
This is the year that there saying 4014 will be running 2019 so it will be steaming by Cajon Pass
What's the pig flats for? Extra braking?
Yes
This steam engine uses a cold water boiler to generate invisible steam...
Steam IS INVISIBLE.
@@crashj at least until it exists the engine and condenses
Very good
I LOVE choo-choos!

wow thats a busy railway
The fucker is just being towed.
Sweet
Slow down big boy, we don’t want another crash at that Cajon pass
why the empty flat cars?
extra braking
Nice video, but those there are the San Gabriel Mountains not San Bernardino
True dat.
skip to 12:10 if you were looking for big boy. This was just short of click bate. I thought she would be under power.
not really though in 2019 he will be under full steam again
Also, beginning at about 7:45 the 4014 can be well seen, and at about 8:00 there is a line of cars on the highway shadowing it.
that is good to know
nope
It first appears at the 6:00 mark.
"steams" ≠ "dead in tow"
n to stop the train. For the extra Brakeing
I miss living in Hesperia =(
Glad you move, it just more crime and car accident everyday
How dare a commercial railroad inter fear with a foamer getting his porn.
David B Lowe LOL!!!!!!
Railfans are hilarious
canh you please next time not make the video about somthing else in the start, but instantly make the clip only of the thing u want to show?? thx u :>

I was expecting to see a live bigboy. There is a big difference in being towed and steaming through.
N.E.Arkansas Trash Trucks&Lottery It's been out of service for over 55 years. Muito bom
It was a dead engine, click bait , B.S.
VERY irresponsible of the Union Pacific personnel to allow guys to ride on top of the tender for the trip.
I was also surprised UP management didn't have a cow about that.
@@bobsnyder3309 they ARE UP management. They can do what they want
Where is the "steam"????? She is being "pulled and pushed not running. Stop the click bait. YOU NEED TO RENAME THIS VIDEO!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hence the "parentheses", it's a joke title and is just fine the way it is.

Wrong, 4014 doesn't "steam" through Cajon Pass! It's towed through Cajon Pass.....click bait.
So, it was just freight. Great click bait.
just a trick to get clicks. thumbs down
CLick bait title, no matter the quote marks.
