  • Hey guys, Romain here with a quick guide to molding your professional racing career. I wish I come out and say the process is easy and straightforward but in reality, it is a very costly sport. In this video, I break down all the stages of a professional racing driver's career but I also explain the advantage of sim racing and the unique opportunities available in the esports genre. Let me know if you guys want to hear more or have any questions down below in the comments.

As Jacques Villeneuve pointed out in his Beyond the Grid episode, you have zero chances of becoming a driver if you don't start young and have tons of money. It's just not how it works anymore. You can even see that the ages of the drivers are much less than they were 30 years ago. Eventually Vettel, Alonso and Hamilton will retire and the latter grids will only be consisted of drivers in their early to mid 20s. And that's not just F1.

While I agree to an extent firstly it is possible to get in without being rich icon showed this as his familly sold there house to fund his career but yeah you do need money a lot of the time all tho I’d argue throughout motorsport history a lot of the drivers have been rich all tho there were opportunities for the fernandos and lewises to come through. Also it’s been u kind of need to start young for a while now like since motorsport has been professional I’m preety sure u need to start young unless u bought a team or something. Also they will get younger for a time but when max and Leclerc grow up the grid will get a bit older. So I guess my point is a lot of this stuff isn’t new and you’ve kind of needed to be young or rich or proberbly both for years decades proberbly

One thing I would like to point out for everyone who's trying to start their racing career, there's not only F1, if you manage to get to F2 or get the FIA Super License, you don't need to wait for a seat to be available, you can go to IndyCar in the US which is also a Open-Wheel, you can go to DTM in the Europe to sharpen your skills, you can go to Super Formula in Japan, you can even try going for V8 Supercars in Australia or Stock Car Brazil, but just like Grosjean said, never give up, go out there, keep racing and keep having fun in the track, do everything you can to keep racing, you are more than capable of getting where you want

    • @BrunodeSouzaLino
      @BrunodeSouzaLino 2 роки тому +4

Motorsport in general is one of the least inclusive sports you can have. By the time you get to F2, your total expenses have six digits. And that's on the extremely optimistic scenario you even have enough funds to leave F3 or even enter F2. Even sim racing is not as inclusive as people make it look like.

@@BrunodeSouzaLino and that's why I said, some of the medium to top leagues are very expensive, and looking for alternatives like Touring/GT cars or other Open-Wheelers and other categories is a very nice alternative if you aren't prepared for that extra step, be it monetarily, physically or mentally

why do so many think you can only go to F1 and if you don't get there you "failed" and "aren't good enough". there are sooooo many different racing series out there. If your primary source of income is racing then by definition you are a professional racing driver and have therefor "made it" and deserve as much respect as F1 pay drivers.

It is expensive, thrilling, and heavily engineering based. Drivers should know that driving in F1 is about maximizing your car's performance no matter how bad the philosophy the vehicle is. Even being a backmarker is a privilege.

F1, Indy, Nascar and all the other top-tier racing is incredible, but it seems like there is some disconnect here. The folks with enough money and/or talent will keep bubbling up to the top as they should, but there are millions more folks who can't/don't aspire to be at the peak of the world. I feel we need more beginner and intermediate competition, at least in the US. With dirt ovals and kart tracks closing so often here, its hard to know where to even apply the tourniquet.
I am worried that sim racing will only feed the top of the pile with limited opportunity and being mostly focused on sponsor promotion. The best way I see to get youth interested is to first interest the parents. Low speed indoor electric karts and uninterested staff is not appealing to parents, and thats all there is around here without taking out a mortgage.
Anyway I don't have the answer to this and the last thing I want is for this to be a rant! You were great to watch in F1, and it's awsome to see the work you are doing for the sport. I myself do flags and comms at Cota for moto GP and nascar, and the people I engage with feel mostly the same.

I'm not sold on being a good SIm racer translating to being a good real racer. I think if you're a real racer than Sim racing can be a good tool to use to improve.

It doesn't and never will. There are no real life consequences in sim racing. You don't get hurt, you don't have to pay repairs, components are infinitely available, you're not subjected to real life forces which can affect your perception and reaction time or external factors like wear and such...That allows you to take bigger risks.

For finding new e-sport talent in a more easier way, I think something collecting and registering data from the user, which could be seen by the user and possible team could be good. Even when your running some sim for fun, it could just help you getting better

I really appreciate your point of view, but let me put in this way: maybe you can find a real ace in playing call of duty. So you decide to take it in a real battlefield... Er... I suppose it would not work very well... Same opinion in sim racing. If you not drive in real racing you will end badly.

There are real examples of sim drivers being real drivers. Not the same for COD.

Sims can at least help reduce some of the training you do on a real machine (not a complete alternative). A better analogy would be flying (since there is a vehicle involved) and both military and commercial pilots use sims to substitute and compliment their training on the real thing and help reduce some of the cost

It’s a bit different sim racing and real racing use a lot of the same stuff like a steering wheel so once u get used to all the physical aspects and stuff irl u can translate stuff over however in cod u use a controller that doesn’t help you use a real life gun or learn the protocols for the military and a bunch of other stuff
