Thanks for the video. I have 2004 Toyota Rav4. I experience a jerk from 2nd to 3rd shift. ECM has already been re-soldered by a professional. I have no DTC codes. I pulled out my SL2 and checked resistance in it and it was 7 Ohms (Toyota recommended specs is 5 to 5.6 Ohms). SL2 makes the clicks and valve moves well when battery tested. Should I be concerned about the slight difference in the resistance reading? Thank you.

ussually when you have a bad soleniod it will either miss a gear or throw and code and leave you stuck in on gear. It sounds like you may have a broken accumulator spring, valve body concern or maybe even a worn clutch drum. Unfortunately the last one is the most common.

    • @juliustay2541
      @juliustay2541 10 місяців тому

@@justcallmeeddie1 In my case, there is no code at all. It changes from 2nd to 3rd gear but with a hesitation and a jerk. After that shifting is smooth to 4th gear. I was just wondering that if truly my SL2 went out, it should throw a code.
The accumulator spring is what I don't know about. As for the clutch drum, I don't see any worn out clutch materials in the pan but definitely worth looking at. Thank you very much for your reply.

Hi Eddie, thanks for your videos. Please do you think I should buy a new valve body? I have problems changing gears, there are knocks and the clutch stays stuck at random. The clutch discs have already been repaired and the solenoids are in good condition. I have a 2010 rav4 awd thks.

Appreciate your knowledge. I took apart my rav4 valve body and about 6 little plastic balls fell out. It didn’t look like you put these back in. Are they important? I’m not sure where they went because they fell out before I could see where they came from.

Those balls are probably the check balls, if you don't put them back, your transmission will not shift right, I just did a similar job to my lexus es300.

Hi Eddie, this is a great video. Thanks for sharing. I have Rav4 2010 did not change the gear oil since a while and the Drive gear in the morning when the car is cold doesn’t clutch until the car becomes warm. I should probably change the gear oil but don’t know if this will solve the problem, any suggestions bro, which will not require tearing down the gear. Thanks

If this is an automatic everything is fine. Toyotas wont shift into high gear until normal operating temp. I would still change that fluid though.

@@justcallmeeddie1 Hi Eddie, still did not find a solution for my issue which is that the drive gear is not engaging when the car is cold in the morning where i need to wait 5-10 min then it engages. As you took down the same gear part by part. Could this be an issue in the valve body or a bad solenoid or there is some oil ring in the gear doing this issue. Unfortunately no one has the experience from where I come from to tell me for sure the problem. Plz think of this problem, i am counting on you to know the root cause of this. Thanks

My fiance in her 07 rav4, has a shifting issue. When slowing down to make a turn and getting back on the accelerator after the turn, it sometimes seems to get stuck in a gear (probably 2nd). If you get off the gas and then back on gas, it stops, as if whatever was stuck freed up. I haven't got codes yet. Sorry.
    Thanks in advance

    • @justcallmeeddie1

Unfortunately, it is not the same transmission in the 2016 Models. You car should have a U660 or U760 transmission but they are also known for valve body issues. I have not had a chance to rebuild one yet but i have swaped some new valve bodies to fix them.

Sometimes nothing is wrong with the valve body or any of the solenoids, the wire harness could also have a short, or the connectors on the solenoids not tight to make good contact.

My RAV4 had the towing package upgrades so it may have come with additional (or bigger) cooler. Unfortunately I cant change the fluid because I believed Toyota when they said the transmission fluid never needs changing, so I never changed it. Maybe the extra cooling of the towing package has helped it last 268K miles on the original fluid. Every mechanic I talked to said it will cause big problems if I try to drain and replace the fluid now.
I did much better with the engine oil, Changed it every 3-4k miles. Even with 268K miles it doest burn oil at all.

    • @justcallmeeddie1

I would start with checking the shift cable and make sure its actually moving the transmission shift linkage. If that is good then you probably got a heat bonded direct clutch. Aka seized up direct clutch.

First, what are you soaking the valve body in? Also....I have a 2008 toyota rav4 and it has overb209,000 miles and runs absolutely perfect it trails over tree stumps and is so quick i dont remember the last time someone beat me from a double stop light. I dont even try its so quick. Scares me sometimes. Bitch just keeps going. But i have taken absolutely best care of it. Change oil with top of the line synthetic oil. Do my own work. All the time no matter what it is. Especially on my trucks. Change the transmission fluid/filter every 3 oil changes and use adatives like there vitamins for my truck. Its absolutely hands down the best and most comfortable truck ive ever encountered. Heated seats, sun roof, JBl speakers with 2 10 watt amps in the back, btw thats stock. powered everything, extra cargo everywhere, extra seat room, etc.. Bitch THUMPS to some HARD rock music BOYYYY. Its in such good shape. I just replaced the valve body and the solenoids were already in and primed out of a totaled rav4 from china with less than 30,000 miles for under 130$, so i got lucky there. I replaced it just because i saw a couple of flakes last transmission fluid change. I did the right thing because it's beautiful. 😊 right now I'm stuck on a got damned hub bearing thet will not come loose but thets tomorrow's problem...just goes to show that if you take care of your vehicle, it takes care of you. Also, inspect your vehicle. Take at least a half hiur every 6 months and just get under it. Jack it up. Try to pull some shit around.. if something moves, you know theres something wrong. Dont let someone else judge you or your families safety.

I was told its the shift solenoid B. I changed that again. I don't want to get rid of the car. Plenty of sentimental value. I bought the car when I returned from Iraq deployment. I'm retired now.
