How to know whether you’re having Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy? | Redcliffe Labs

Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy is the most common life-threatening childhood form of muscular dystrophy. As it is caused by genetic defects that lead to missing or non-functional proteins, faculty members are investigating the possibility of gene replacement or gene therapy as treatment options for DMD.
In this Video, Dr. Deepika (Scientist at Redcliffe Labs) explains the main reasons behind one of the most common life-threatening childhood forms of muscular dystrophy DMD.
In our body, there are several genes whose job is the production of proteins in the available level quantity, whenever the production of these proteins is in an abnormal way i.e over or less produced then these cause the DMD (Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy) disease production/generation. This disease can be genetic. This DMD disease makes the bones of the body weak, rigid, and painful which intimately makes children not able to walk, jump, etc.
These symptoms of DMD can be seen at the stage of 3 years and by the time they reach the age of 12, these children became wheelchair-bound. They become bedridden. When they reach their teenage of 13-15 years they surpass through several diseases like respiratory, breathing, and heart problems.
How to know whether you’re having DMD?
The first way is the simple blood test which checks the creatine kinase level, if this creatine kinase production is more then it makes an indication of DMD.
The second way is the check of Muscle through muscle biopsy and if the above symptoms match through reports it also makes an indication towards DMD.
