Ah, Rick, this was a lovely video. I LOVE your drives, and look forward to your walk in the forest. And I very much hope you'll do a wee adventure out in Wales. Having Guenivere to carry you hopefully will make it a pleasure. I also appreciate your health updates; it sounds like a good track you're on. Inspired by you, I've stocked up on multiple cans of sardines! If they are packed in olive oil, I will often make a salad dressing out of the liquid, a bit of vinegar or lemon, and put the sardines over lettuce, and it becomes a great salad!!! All my best to you.

Hi Rick! I love this style of video, so relaxing and fun to see the sights. I’m looking forward to a walk in the woods! I also wanted to mention how much I appreciate you touching on agoraphobia and anxiety sometimes. I struggle with similar things and it’s nice to have somebody to relate to. I love that you are pushing yourself to get out there more, I am working on that as well. I honestly find that I relate to you in lots of ways! Especially in the varied range of interests. I tend to get really into a certain thing, want to learn as much as I can, then it sort of fades out, and eventually I’m on to the next thing. I think that helps keep your channel interesting and evolving, too. It’s cool to see what you get into next, but I do so appreciate the camp videos always coming back 😌 For a period during quarantine I used to have the same morning routine- eat breakfast of sourdough toast, strawberries, and coffee, and watch one of your camping videos! Lol 😄
So anyway, thanks for being here and sharing with us. You make a difference. 🩷

Hi Rick, always great to spend time with you whatever you are doing. Love your style and thinking whatever the subject. I am the sole carer for my partner who now has Alzheimers and Dementia which is necessarily isolating, so spending time with you is always a treat. As to Keto or Carnivore, you have clearly done tons of research, so you just do what works best for you bearing in mind the addictive component of carbs. Fascinating to follow your journey. Lots of luck:)

Hi Rick. I just discovered your channel this week. I've had enough of the rain and mud outdoors, so I thought I'd try indoor walking, and found a video of yours driving through the Cotswolds. ❤ Since then, I've discovered you cover so many interesting topics (keto and health very high on my agenda), but I especially love getting out and about in your van. Keep the variety going, it's great. 🤩 Just to add, I met up with family in Savernake forest when we were social distancing. It was a fabulous, much needed day out.

I had a friend many years ago who suffered its agoraphobia. We started going out on bicycles rather than walking and she loved it. I think it was to do with the fact she could get home more quickly if she felt the need. Sean has started cycling in his new home and his home patch seems fairly bike friendly.

Hi, you are at my sister's neck of the woods there! Have you ever thought of Geocaching? It's a type of treasure hunt using GPS co-ordinates. It's great for discovering new areas and good for both short walks or for breaking up longer walks. My favourites are the mystery caches whereby you need to solve a puzzle in order to get the right co-ordinates. Lots of fun, whilst being able to appreciate your surroundings. May be worth a look...

For the health stuff, it seems you have everything in-hand and I agree with everything in your plan - it sound like solid, research-based stuff and should definitely do the trick. Also losing the weight slowly is perfect and keeping protein up and also continuing to build your muscles - remember your lower-half as well though because that is where the bigger muscles are. I'd recommend body-weight Bulgarian split squats as your go-to lower-body exercise!
Looking forward to hearing a 3D audio recording of the windy forest!

UA-cam is a funny thing. As I said to you in my mesage yesterday. We struggle to get subscribers and are lucky if we get 200 views per video when one is released. It was suggested we look at the analytics, but like you we don't really get in to that. It would become a rabbit hole of changing what we do to chase views. As you said it would be nice to have more subscribers and views but we also started our channel as a video diary for us. It has evolved from just being out in the campervan to enjoying sharing the history of places we visit.
Glad the consultation went well and things are moving forward.

Fatty liver would be better news than gall bladder needing removal! Best way to reverse fatty liver is a low carb, high fat diet because your body burns all of that organ fat while you trim down your weight overall. Ken Berry and Anthony Chaffee have talked about reversing fatty liver a lot.

Back in the year about 2000 there was two Australian doctors that were studying and talking about fructose that was the cause of fatty liver, which was sugar
= part glucose and fructose, and I found out that the food industry add fructose to so much food. I don’t know if there is their information still on the internet. Milk thistle is-excellent helping the liver to heal, I use the seeds and grind them up, there is milk thistle oil or capsules or tablets .I have only used the seeds.
Also Dr Eric Berg has talks about fatty liver which might help you.

Hiya Rick, thanks for the fab vid as always. I’ve recently had a scan and been diagnosed with fatty liver so also researching the best diet. Pre-carnivore diet, a blood test showed I had high liver enzymes. Plus, a CT scan on my abdomen confirmed I had fatty liver disease.
After 8 months on carnivore, I had a blood test which showed my liver enzymes were normal and fatty liver was likely no longer there. I lost 25 pounds, 20 percent of my bodyweight. My belly fat is nearly all gone (yay!) and it seems plausible that all my fat stores in and around my organs are gone as well.
I've been strict carnivore, borderline lion diet, so I believe saturated fat did not increase fatty liver disease in me.

    • @rickvanman
      @rickvanman 4 місяці тому +4

That’s great news regarding the fatty liver.
Got to admit, the Jury is still out on the saturated fats element, from everything I’ve heard anecdotally, people do seem to be doing well on carnivore in regard to curing fatty liver. My research has shown that the avocado and olive oils are a lot easier on the gallbladder though, so I’m starting with those, but hopefully will be able to work back up to mostly full-blown animal fats at some point when it has settled down. There is a balance to be struck at the moment.

The diet that you're describing sounds a lot like a Mediterranean Keto diet. You can find at least one prominent UA-camr who promotes such a diet. Interestingly, I once had a cat who was overweight her entire adult life. She rapidly lost weight, due to a health issue. The rapid weight loss caused her to develop fatty liver disease. Her recovery required surgery, to resolve the health issue, along with feeding every 4 hours. She fully recovered after a couple of months. Best wishes on your recovery!

Loved the drive and the chat, Rick. Thanks for sharing your health update. I did find it a bit odd that your original bloodwork before starting Carnivore didn't have any indication of a fatty liver. I wonder if the bloodwork was simply an indicator of gallstones causing poor motility of the gallbladder function over time. It's all related! Non alcoholic fatty liver can be caused by poor motility of the gallbladder's bile, high sugar and carb intake... You had, after all, already been on a no carb, no sugar, no alcohol diet that included coffee which are the three main things recommended for treatment of a fatty liver! So by process of elimination, I would say that the issue will likely be that pesky little offender stone (s), that are perhaps taxing the liver? Anyway, the sooner you get your scan the better you'll be able to see what's going on. 😊 So, anyway, I think you would do well to consider moving to a safer home too. I had the very same issue a few years ago in the neighborhood I lived for over 30 yrs, finding that it had just gone downhill with crime. I didn't walk out at certain times, and it became noisy and busier over time. I found that it stressed me out, and prevented me from wanting to step out even for a walk at times. Evening walks became a thing of the past, which sadly, was something I enjoyed. If you moved to a more hospitable neighborhood/town, you may just find yourself relaxing more, taking up more physical activity, and feeling all around safer all leading to decreasing fears. I moved 2 years ago to a safer, quieter neighborhood and didn't look back! Keep smiling, and keep up your quest for a better, healthier lifestyle! Cheers!

Rick, our digestive systems sound really similar. I did wonder if it was in fact your gallbladder as where you were putting your hand when talking about the pain was in the wrong place. My scar from removal is much higher and central.. and that is where the pain was and it was excruciating... anyway I have tried kimchi and fermented veg, I really loved them but I think they upset me and I had a year or two after eating them of really bad heart burn type symptoms.. Because as much as I look forward to hearing people talk about gall bladders and go into a deep dive on fatty livers for 15 minutes 🤣, one can only listen to that so long and honestly I started tuning out. It's interesting if kept to an occasional thing and not such detail.

@@rickvanman yeah, i've tried store bought stuff, it just ain't it. they also put chemicals in there. it's not the original fermentation. it's actually very simple to make sauerkraut at home. we do it all the time. get some nice organic cabbage, chop it up, put in a jar and cover with 4% pure sea salt water. that is 40g of non iodized coarse salt to 1l of filtered water. keep the jar some place not too hot or cold and shake every day. preferably keep it on a plate because it will start "boiling over". your sauerkraut will be ready in about 2 weeks. organic produce is best because presumably it's not sprayed with chemicals that kill off the good bacteria you need for the fermentation. kimchi is made similarly. i've seen the recipe on youtube. let me know if you decide to try it, there are more important tips.

Okay, I've got to say this. This isn't much of a "forest." It looks like a bunch of scrappy saplings. Forests around me are made up of eastern white pines that can grow to 4ft around and 130 ft. high. Plus huge oaks and maples and hickories etc. So I'm confused about the forest thing. So it's got to be the "ancient" part that is skewing my interpretation right. ?
