I bought this locomotive many years ago and what was so cool about this model was how huge it looked sitting on the tracks. It made the track look small.
Ditto Robert’s comment, but time flies and your episodes are so great. That must have been an unusual train show on the Queen Mary in LBC. I can just picture that. The Connie even with its flaws is so great. Thanks for sharing it with us. Till the weekend.
I was fortunate to have and rebuild one of these 2-8-0s a couple years ago. I absolutely fell in love with it the minute I saw it, being a fan of outside frame “export Baldwins”. It had to have the gears and drive train rebuilt, with new brass gears. It now belongs to a local museum, alongside the 346 C-19. These outside frame ones were some good engine, often overlooked. I always was sad they did not come as oil burners. I shall try to guess the gauges, many were 36” gauge and 30” gauge. A few metre gauge and 42”, and a couple nearly 2’ gauge (1’ 1”) for Brazil, as well as actual 2’ ones.
I installed the tsu 4400 decoder from SoundTrax in the smoke box and mounted a 28mm high bass speaker under the stack. (Don’t need a smoke gen ) Provided ALL the lighting functions, ie ash on glow, fire box flicker, cab lights, dimable headlight etc. Looks great, runs great, sounds awesome. The Annie ( Anniversary Edition 4-6-0 ) got the same treatment last year. The grand kids love’em under the tree at Xmas time.
The prototype with the 'Baker' valve gear ran in Mexico. Most of them had split plastic gears which I suspect is one of the reasons Bachmann sold them off cheap. They did later make a replacement axle with brass gear available. The motor is puny compared to what you would find in a metal Accucraft model.

That's a neat looking locomotive I don't want to bought one at 800 no questions asked well I do hope you get it running I think it'll be a great addition on your garden railroad to see that going around 👍👍
I built a wood support to turn it upside down to take off the hole underneath of it to get to those gears and it worked out good and kept all the stuff from breaking on top. I think one of the support suspension springs went and zinging away I never found it. So if you do it be careful those little coil springs...they like to fly across the room. My brace has the wood spaced evenly the width of the boiler and ( when upside down) sits on the cat walks along the boiler. And that'll protect everything from the cab all the way to the nose and make a nice sturdy frame to work on it.
Plan! Except it’s fix all five… five? FIVE??? I’m hopeless. Just bought two more of the 2-8-0 consolation. Well not really. A friend of mine wanted one after seeing the show. Found two in Great Britain. So we are each getting one. Plan is to regear and add sound to all 5.
