Do you think the Ukranian soliders in Donetsk see this region as a lost cause and are abandoning positions?
It may be happening in Krasnogorovka today and in Progress yesterday, but as a whole I think it's a bit premature to say that. The latest trend however is not going well for Ukraine and many of it's soldiers realistically understand their chances in this war.

i don't think so, but those units who abandoned positions are the terratorial units with very basic things no firepower, they cant hold back the russians and they know it.
@@coregen You right for the most part with the exception of several notable cases. In Feb 2024 Ukrainian 3rd Assault Azov Brigade ( very ideologically motivated unit with strong presence of ultra right and neo- Na...s ) decided to abandon their very strong fortified positions at the Avdeevka coke plant and to retreat despite the given orders to hold it at any cost. That made Russian breakthrough in/around Avdeevka is even worse for Ukrainians than originally thought. As of today they are still dealing with the effects of this breakthrough and were not able to stabilize the frontline. In April 2024 some of the units Ukrainian 67 Mechanized brigade ( an armed wing of a far right nationalist party Right Sector, very hard core individuals ) did the same trick in the eastern part of Chasov Yar in the Kanal micro district prompting Ukrainian high command to pull the entire bridge off the front lines, changing the CO and starting investigations into what really happened. And finally yesterday and today Ukrainian 47th Mechanized brigade Magura ( one of the elite formations in the ground forces ) very quickly had abandoned it's positions in/near Progress leading to quick unexpected capturing them by the opposing Russian forces. This dramatic change had greatly shifted the overall situation in the Pokrovsk direction of the frontline from bad to worse for the Ukrainian side and can have a far reaching consequences in the future for the whole Donbass front.

The US and its allies numbered nearly 1 million on the eve of the first gulf War. They had overwhelming aerial and firepower superiority to make rapid breakthroughs and capture territory. The Russians don't have the overwhelming numerical superiority over Ukraine nor in firepower to make those rapid breakthroughs. It will be another year of grinding and another mobilisation to acquire that level of superiority.
