    Hello I know that this is an older video but I was wondering how much sun your June hosta gets? I love the June hosts but mine doesn’t seem to have the distinct blue and green colour like yours . I’m not sure if this comes with age or with the amount of sun it receives. Great garden tour!

    Hi! Thanks for making this video! How tall is your June hosta? I’m looking for a good smaller/short hosts to line the front edge of my beds. Thanks!

    Will they all grow to the size of the elegans? Or is it the elegans in particular that has large leaves?

    When you plant your coral bells, have you grouped multiple plants of the same type or is it one mature plant?

    Your garden is fantastic. I'm wanting to expand mine and have a question for you. Will hostas live under or in front of evergreen trees? I didn't want to a chance. Thank you.

    • @GuidingGreenThumbs
      @GuidingGreenThumbs  3 роки тому +1

      Great question! So the simple answer is yes! You can totally plant under pines... the complicated answer is that you may have to tend to them more than you would normally. They will need more water and fertilizer because of the competing roots but it is possible and as long as you give them ample added moisture and nutrients, you will be successful. :-)

    I love this but don’t know where to start. Do you plant them as bulbs or buy them? How long do they take to reach maturity size? Thanks!

    • @GuidingGreenThumbs
      @GuidingGreenThumbs  Рік тому

      Depending on budget, you can buy anywhere from liner size to 2 gallon sized. It takes a good 3-5 years for Hostas (especially the medium to large varieties) to mature. The giant Hostas can take longer. It happens faster for some varieties than others.

    • @GuidingGreenThumbs

      I buy from local nurseries as well as hosta groups on Facebook that have reputable sellers. New Hampshire Hostas is also an awesome place to order from online. They have amazing stock and big plants.

      Hi! They don’t do as well in part shade as they would in full sun… but, they do grow and bloom and so I leave them in there as a nice filler… I would say they need at least 3-4 hours of direct sun to be happy, over 6 to thrive well with the flowers you’d expect. 🙂

    How do you keep the slaters and slugs from eating them, mine were being eaten as they were trying to grow.

    • @GuidingGreenThumbs
      @GuidingGreenThumbs  5 місяців тому

      I don’t have any major issues with slugs. We have a pretty dry area…. But even if a super wet year… we see them but we also have lots of birds, snakes and toads… it helps!

    Can those be grown in central Texas?

    • @GuidingGreenThumbs
      @GuidingGreenThumbs  2 роки тому

      Generally hostas need a cold dormant period and are hardy in zones 3-8 (some varieties zone 9). Not sure what zone in Texas you’re in but I hope you can!

      @GuidingGreenThumbs  3 місяці тому

      I use Liquid Fence Deer spray a lot and I have a big crazy dog that loves to chase any wildlife that comes into the yard…. Neither are a foolproof solution but they allow me to enjoy the gardens with minimal deer grazing. 🙂

    Beautiful hosta collection! Do you have trouble with critters in your area? I lost 13 hostas (all I had) to a gopher two years ago and I’ve been unwilling to plant them again. They must be tasty. 🙄😄 But, I love hostas. I once had a wonderful variety when we lived in the Northeast part of the country, apparently no gophers up there.

    • @GuidingGreenThumbs
      @GuidingGreenThumbs  6 років тому +1

      We sure do... deer mainly and I use the liquid deer fence for now but that is not foolproof either. It’s funny, I always add more hostas every year and think to myself “ there you go, deer, more entrees on the buffet!” Haha. Haven’t had trouble with rabbits or anything like that though thanks to our territorial pups. They do help.

      Hi Rose! Thanks so much! It sounds like you're on the right track with naming it... I do have a ton of Francis Williams but I do think I bought an Earth Angel at some point and have no idea where it went ( I have too many to remember now.) haha! Appreciate the comment! Sam Cole I’ve purchased most of them at local nurseries, I’ve been given some divisions of things, some mail order... they’ve come from various places :-)
