Thank you so much for actually allowing us to hear what they sound like instead of talking through 90 percent of the video. I’ve been thinking about getting a set for my jazz bass, bet every other video where they demo all the DR bass strings they just end up talking way too damn much and will barely let you hear what they sound like..thanks again, seriously :)
Thanks for sharing. I was in fact thinking of stringing my Pbass with DR Sunbeams but in the end opted for Fender 7250 strings, which are also nickel plated steel but on a hex core wire (instead of round core, as with the Sunbeams).
That's an impressive Jazz! I currently use flats on my Jazz but looking for something with a bit more bite and growl but still want to keep the warm thump. How do these compare to the flats and how do they compare to other rounds like Roto .66? Sorry for the questions, just wanted to know what you thought given your demo. Thanks!
Thanks for the comment. I haven't yet put flats on my Jazz, so I really can't speak to the difference. However, I do think that the DR Sunbeams could give you the difference you are looking for. I originally got the Sunbeams for a MusicMan Fretless Sterling, but I didn't really love them on that bass (I now play Thomastiks Jazz Bass flats on that bass). I haven't played Roto's. I've mainly played DR Highbeams (rounds) and DR Marcus Miller Fatbeams (rounds) for years. I ply the Marcus Miller's on the Jazz, but thought I'd try the Sunbeams, since I had them. They were fine, but I've gone back to the Fatbeams on the Jazz. So I think they have more "bite and growl" than flats, but not as much pop (that I like) as the Fatbeams (maybe I just haven't found the right bass for them yet). But if you like flats, you might try DR Legends (if you haven't). I have them on a Warwick Corvette and love them on that bass. They are flats, but still get a good amount of brightness, pop and growl, and I can really dig in (good for funk and blues). Good luck!
Anthony Delaney Hi there! Thanks for such a great and detailed response! I have SIT flats on a Stingray copy that I have with a Bartolini in it. I think Stingray's sound mega with flats on so might try the DRs. From what you say it does sound as though the Sunbeams have got the difference that I'm looking for my Jazz though. They're quite pricey over here in the UK but will give them a try when payday comes around! :D Thanks again for taking the time to answer!
