@@Ron.S. Too much division in the party unfortunately between the soft left and left wing, Corbyn couldn’t quell the divide and neither can Starmer it seems. Ed in this current climate would do well as Labour leader as he’s somewhat liked by both sects rather than a Corbyn who was a villain to the new Labour folk and Starmer who is enemy no.1 for the hardcore lefties.

Cast your mind back to the 2015 UK General Election campaign when David Cameron (ably abetted by rabid media scaremongering from his mates in Fleet Street) attempted to cast Ed Miliband's Labour Party as some kind of chaotic alternative, determined to break up the UK. The slogan "Coalition of Chaos" was employed very successfully in that respect?
In fact, the polar opposite has been the outcome. Cameron deliberately offered target elements of the UK electorate - those that had inexorably defected from the Tory fold to the UKIP insurgency over the previous ten year period - an IN/OUT EU referendum, to lure them back to the Conservatives. It was a cynical ploy that succeeded, delivering the small swing required for the Conservatives to gain an unexpected single party majority, courtesy of busted flush First Past the Post.
More than six years later and where are we now - the debacle of Brexit will potentially lead to the end of the United Kingdom in the form we have known for the last three centuries and more. Meanwhile the so called "Coalition of Chaos" that might have emerged from a hung Parliament and Labour cooperating with the SNP, leading to radical Constitutional Reform and potentially a Federal United Kingdom, looks a helluva lot more stable than the ****show created by Boris & Co?
