JAYFISH718 hey Jay - half day trip is 600 and full day is 850. I don’t really do open boat trips. She’s getting pulled on 11/24 after my last charter that day. Next bookings I’m taking are for Spring fluke :)
I so glad I’ve found your channel. I’m trying to soak up all the knowledge I can so next year I’ll be a new boat owner first time and I really wanna know how to fish for all different kinds of fish.
Another great one , learning with each video , very informative . You guys make some team , your technique is similar to the way I fish for trout on the reservoirs with live bait down to the tap tap thump when there frenzy feeding , let them run and set Awesome !!!!!!! EXCEPT YOU GUYS MAKE IT LOOK EASY!!!!!!!
Nice job Halk!! I haven't fished for tog from a boat in a few years. Just hitting the inlet jetty in Avalon, but your technique of when to set the hook still rings true! Thanks for the continued advise! Way to let that big fish go back to make more fish babies!!
Dave Sauerzopf I actually did a seminar a few weeks back on light tackle jigging and lived every minute of it. I may do a video this winter going over my rods/reels and how they are laid up for winter
Hey guys. Great vid. Quick question. Can I translate this jigging technique to party boat fishing? If so, how? Head boats require heavier weight for straight vertical fishing, but 8oz sinkers (are there 8oz porgy jigs?), kill the feel for the angler and the fish, right? Could you do a video where you use head boat techniques to demonstrate successful Tog fishing? Thx u
Great vid! I love the penn battle reels. Can’t beat them for the price... question for you: I’ve been losing a lot of jigs around Jetty’s where I know there are blackfish. I know it’s a part of the game, but would you suggest putting the jig a little farther away from the jetty, but risk catching less fish? Or keep it close and just buy a shit ton or rigs/jigs and suck it up? I’ve been predominantly using bottom sweeper jigs (same as skinners tog jigs).
Tim - dame here on the jigs. I have been casting with a few feet of the jetty - close enough but not to close. I also now realize for jetty fishing it’s probably best to step up the line size since you’re much more susceptible to line breaking. So my personal Battle II is 5 years old with no issues but I brand new one that a customer was using broke (gear teeth sheered) and I think I know why. Too convoluted to explain here but will try and do so in a future video
Hey guys. Love the channel. Question/comment for you... had a charter captain “scold” me one time “pumping” my rod to reel in a good size black fish. Looks like you do at least a little. What are your thoughts about cheating to get more power vs leaving the rod tip up
Jig4Striper Everyone has different styles and I don’t want to sound like a pompous jerk questioning why the other guy told you that but you can absolutely pump them. Look at the first fish caught by Skinner. He pumps it the whole way up. Even though these rods are light, they have the back bone to handle the weight and you really take a lot of the pressure off your reel by doing it this way. My two cents anyway :-)
temoniprince live it! It’s a Goo Fish but had an issue with reel this vid so switched to the St Croix. I will be using that one (the yellow one) more next year
Skinner was using 15 - I did feel I could hold better with a 3/4 ounce jig. He bumped his up a bit as current picked up. I was able to keep using the 3/4
I understand why you do it, but I have not gone that light and 99 % of people watching have not either. We need to be taught in person or on these videos. I have a reel set up with 12 pound test for catching Walleye's in Connecticut.
Craig from CT I’ll put it this way, I’ve had my bucktail with ten pound braid snag the bottom in Montauk whole drifting for fluke and I’d say half the time the 30 pounder leader breaks but not the braid. Today’s modern lines are strong. When I fished the Miss Montauk in 2018 I was able to hold with 3 ounces with no scope and the guys next to me using 30 pound braid with 8 ounce weights on chicken rigs were sailing. Try it once. You will be a converter too. Heck, Sweeney uses 8 pound test in Montauk!
Jesse Gordon great question. The jigs we use for tog are often 1/2, 5/8 or 3/4 ounces. They get to the bottom a LOT faster with the spinner. Lightest I go on ocean fluke is 2 ounces and a bait caster/conventional set up is just fine for that.
Maybe a 3000 class reel. I just used in RI a bee Penn Battle 3 2000 reel and was VERY impressed. It’s now machined, not cast and is really, really powerful
I'd love to see u and skinner come to delaware and catch flounder and tog the way u do there I'll bet u all expenses paid trip u two can't catch them like u do there tog maybe flounder definitely not going to happen
That u are I love the channel by the way always happy to see the notification pop up on my phone yeah I'm hoping to come this summer and pay u to take me out to get my pb flounder it's only 6 lbs so I'm sure u could get me on something bigger then that they only have to be 16 an a half here in delaware and still only got 7keepers all year flounder fishing used to be grate here but the last 15 20 years yeah its insane ok nice talking to u bud hope I see u this summer
Hey guys - remember to check out the description which has links to all the gear Skinner and I used
Just curious ..how much is it to get on your boat per person..

Great day of fishing lots of action some beautiful black fish as always thank you for sharing 🐟🎣
Thank you for watching and commenting Larry!

Awesome video as always. Nice fish always make for a good trip no matter the temperature.

Anthony - thanks!!!! It really is easy once you get the hang of it!

Would love to see you and John do a winter show on how to prep for next year. What do you do to your reels etc!
Dave Sauerzopf I actually did a seminar a few weeks back on light tackle jigging and lived every minute of it. I may do a video this winter going over my rods/reels and how they are laid up for winter
We just got back today from fishing off block island. We hit limit on sea bass and black fish. Awesome fishing.
Ilir M awesome! Any idea what water temps were? It was 57 this trip (Saturday, November 9)
Around 55 degrees
Another good and informative video. 👍
Man I love blackfish. Haven't had a chance to go out yet this season, but I can't wait
Giddyup!
Love this crew

ST Richards really tough to replicate this on a head boat. I may be fishing one in NJ in December and I do, I will definitely compare styles.

Love the video. Like the way you play the fish. How’s the charter business working out
Robert Gerber thank you! Charter biz is going great. Have I believe 13 2020 dates booked already
what jigs are u using?
Great job John love every video also is that a loop knot your using here and do you think it helps compared to like a palomar or something?
Thanks Anthony - not sure how much it helps but it does make it easy to move up or down in jig size without re-tying

Appreciate the feedback! Looking forward to your next video. Thanks again for input!!! Love the channel. Keep up the great work.
Hey John you would do good getting a camera man to shoot from the side, you could see the rod move better. Just a suggestion
Great video. NIce release!
Nice looking fish... Do you ever get skunked.??
Usually not for tog but yes for fluke. See this one: ua-cam.com/video/OrHP-Q6Remk/v-deo.html
If I'm fishing from a jetty will the blackfish still be around at peak lowtide?
I would think yes.
@jiggingjerks thanks man
Great video. Water is off. Watch that coffee. Lol
Ed Gerrity ugh - crazy thing is other than the frozen coffee, we kept boat clean :)
Hopefully you’re still in Florida. It’s friggin cold here!
We are back. Was too hot down there. Lol
What’s the Yellow Rod? Looks perfect.....
temoniprince live it! It’s a Goo Fish but had an issue with reel this vid so switched to the St Croix. I will be using that one (the yellow one) more next year
Awesome looking at the saltwater Spinner now.... you rock and keep making vids....
10 pound test! How much thinner can it be from 15 pound test line? I would have a tough time blackfishing with that light of line.
Skinner was using 15 - I did feel I could hold better with a 3/4 ounce jig. He bumped his up a bit as current picked up. I was able to keep using the 3/4

I came across of your channel Great content great video love it!! NEW FRIEND 👍😉🎣🎣🎣
KZtheFisher Outdoors thank you!!!
Why do you use spinning gear jigging for blackfish and conventional gear jigging for fluke?
Jesse Gordon great question. The jigs we use for tog are often 1/2, 5/8 or 3/4 ounces. They get to the bottom a LOT faster with the spinner. Lightest I go on ocean fluke is 2 ounces and a bait caster/conventional set up is just fine for that.
Jesse Gordon great question!!! Great answer. Love this community!!
I know bgs run big what would you say the 2500 is similar size too?
Maybe a 3000 class reel. I just used in RI a bee Penn Battle 3 2000 reel and was VERY impressed. It’s now machined, not cast and is really, really powerful
Yea been debating between the penn 2 4000 and the Daiwa bg 4000
@@Primofishin I would do the Penn Battle 3. It’s a drop more expensive (maybe 15 dollars) but very impressed so far....
"Alright Jackass, calm down!" Classic line!!!! Just spit coffee all over my autographed John Skinner picture!!! Hahahahaha
B Stav I was really full of myself there Bobbo.
what rod and reel are best for blackfish?
Depends what kind of blackfishing
Good job!!
Harold Morales thank you my friend!
The jerks are back
I'd love to see u and skinner come to delaware and catch flounder and tog the way u do there I'll bet u all expenses paid trip u two can't catch them like u do there tog maybe flounder definitely not going to happen
george merritt you may be right - I always say we are blessed to be able to fish some great nearby waters George - God bless

🤙🤙🤙
Man the rod skinners got in his hands in this video... couldn't imagine using that myself.. if I didn't see it here I wouldn't have believed it
I sense some sarcasm here….
Do some striped bass fishing
Definitely need to diversify species next year!
I can't help but notice that you don't have enough rodholders!
😄
Kevin
Kevin Brewer haha - it’s the anti-Doc style lol although I’m sure you noticed he added a bunch - great fish by the way!
any videos on how to pee off the boat?
Only on my Patreon
Can is to low to see your rod tip.
