“Maria Luisa was a small child, living in her native Argentina, when her father presented her with her first guitar. It soon became evident that hers was an extraordinary talent. She gave her first public concert at the age of eight, and it seems certain that anyone present at that astonishing performance never forgot it. Later, she became the favorite pupil of Miguel Llobet, who himself had been a favored disciple of Francisco Tárrega, the greatest of the modern masters and the teacher of Segovia. An artist, therefore, in the Tarrega tradition, Maria Luisa Anido plays with superb skill and profundity. Like most great performers, she has no need to indulge in showy pyrotechnics. The exquisite purity of her style speaks for itself.”
