Sounds like the weather on the Texas Gulf Coast where I've lived my entire life and getting thoroughly fed up with. If you want to meet some grumpy people come to Houston during the summertime especially in August. We hate the summers here.
I know some people have criticised the inconsistency of Aemond’s character in that he’s normally calm and collected, even after losing his eye claiming it was a fair exchange so his anger is out of character but I don’t see it that way. When he lost his eye, he knew that if he didn’t speak up, Alicent would not relent and his assurance that he was alright would diffuse the situation and has likewise been raised to have a calculated outlook on everything so that’s how he presents himself, but sometimes his own desire for revenge breaks the image he’s crafted for himself. And in this moment, when even in the hall he held all the power, he couldn’t help but flex it once again, to remind the boy who took his eye without cause that he was the powerful one now. He wanted to make him feel terrified of him, as Aemond likely felt in the seconds after he was initially sliced. Rather than being inconsistent, I think it’s perfectly plausible that Aemond would take this chance for revenge when it was so personal for him when he would normally consider such pursuits beneath him.
Lucerys had cause to put his eye out though. During that skirmish when they were kids (started by the girls, mind you. Not the Strong boys) Aemond was about to bash his brother’s head in with a rock and Lucerys drew his blade and took his eye out. Obviously, Aemond is entitled to feel some type of way about this, but Lucerys had adequate enough justification to do what he did because he was defending his brother. Naturally, with Aemond having become the psychopathic, barabaric, bully he has, of course that would slip his mind………
@@MultiCrimsonRain If Aemond were going to bash Jace's head in with the rock, he would have already done it. He had two openings to do so and while he contemplated it, he visibly stopped himself the first time, and hesitated/stalled the second by staring between Jace and the girls. And by the time Luke went at him with the knife, he was already blinded and out of commission because he got "pocket sanded". The knife was no longer justifiably an act of defense at that point--getting out of there would have been easy, as would taking him down to the ground before getting him out of there. If you've ever had dirt thrown in your eyes in a fight or similar situation, youd know you're not doing much more fighting back in that situation
It only seems that way because the show-runners changed sth that didn't need changing. If it had gone down like it did in the books it would've made way more sense.
Borros' reply is almost word for word what is written in the histories. If I were to guess I would say that Robert took a little creative license with how his ancestor would have responded.
@@lindsey7951 I'm not so sure. With this response Borros is being diplomatic; should the Blacks triumph over the Greens he can claim that he made no ill will towards the Queen and took in both envoys as equals. He even prevented blood from being spilled in his house to maintain some semblance of neutrality. If he had replied, 'pup, tell that bitch, you mother, that the Lord of Storms' End is not some dog she can whistle up!' then he has put everything in with the Greens - who at this point have fewer dragons and fewer (and less experienced) dragonriders than the Blacks. Victory for one side or the other is not assured at this point.
May i say that Ewan Mitchell was the perfect actor for the role of Aemond. Everything in his performance just oozes malice, contempt, and a bit of madness.
The Baratheon's reputation for producing absolute badasses precedes them. Orys, Rogar, Borros, Lyonel "The Laughing Storm", Robert "Bobby B", and of course "The Mannis" Stannis.
@@Danny2113182 She asked for Aemond to ve "questioned sharply" which in asoiaf universe means torture. In the scene in Ep7 after Aemonds eye was cut you can see him turn around in his chair to look at her as if the thinks "You have to be kidding me!" and Alicents asks "over an insult?!". That's one of tge reasons she freaks out like that. Not only can her children be maimed without consequences, Rhaenyra can ask for them to be tortured for petty reasons in front of the king and nothing happens no one will protect them. I think many didn't know she asked for his torture who aren't familiar with the books.
03:28 I love Borros' look here after Aemond says he wants to gift Lucerys' eye to his mother. "Okay is this a bit or is he serious?" only to very quickly realize "oh fuck he's serious"
Unlike the Targaryens. During Rhaenyra's wedding Brave King Viserys was too preoccupied by a nosebleed while everyone was busy killing one another while that wannabe Queen Rhaenyra was getting tossed around like a stupid doll. Neither had the strength to assert their authority. Borros got a Dragonrider to stop fighting in his Hall and King Robert got the 2 very strong, very brutal Clegane brothers to stop fighting with a single command.
@Oz Eye no Robert was born 120 years after the events of this story so Borros is many generations before him. Robert's grandfather is Ormund Baratheon and his grandmother was princess Rhaele Targaryen.
While I was excited to finally see Storm's End and Borros Baratheon, what really struck me in this scene was Aemond's line at 3:06: "I want you to put out your eye as payment for mine." That line sent shivers down my spine.
Dude Borros Baratheon was perfectly casted. Intimidating without being extremely loud with a sense of deep-rooted anger. True embodiment of the house of baratheon. Edit: Was not expecting this comment to blow up the way it did. I still stand by what I said, Borros could pass off as Robert's younger brother here.
I agree, this actor nailed it, his dour and irritable demeanor and his overbearing presence heavily reminded me of Stannis Baratheon. I find it interesting to see a ancestor resembling Stannis since he was considered the odd one out of the Baratheons.
3:53 Lucerys struggling to sheath his sword, having to look at the scabbard to get it in. Meanwhile Aemond gives his Rondel dagger a couple spins before sheathing it without even looking. Very subtle detail but shows you just how unevenly matched a fight would have been.

@@AnkitSingh-cd7tw I was, of course, hyperbolic, as AFAIK Borros being an illiterate lord was an expection in Westeros. I simply pointed out that Baratheons were renowed for having an impressive build and dominant personalities, not for the scholalry achievements
In hindsight, sending Luke to Storm’s End was a really stupid decision. Jace makes sense since he’s older, trained in diplomacy and Rhaenyra’s heir. But Luke doesn’t seem to have those traits. A smarter diplomat would have remembered his three unbetrothed younger brothers. I agree with those who say Rhaenys should have been sent instead.

@@madronnie9725 Luke was a baby boy yet. And there was no mystery about the Baratheon's character. Sending Luke was meant as an act of respect but still he wasn't ready for such a task and they should have chosen someone with capacities to negotiate. The poor boy 😢
The character is annoying. He lost his eye in a fight he started for no reason. That should be it. But no, he's still on about it here wanting Luc's eye in "payment". He's a nutter. Should have tied him to the bed before he claimed Vhagar.

Luke was a terrible diplomat here. Dude could’ve offered up his little brother or Aegon or Viserys but instead he leaves empty handed. Jace offered the Arryns protection and the Starks a daughter. By no means should he have not offered anything.
@@FlexSZN23 they absolutely were decision makers. Aemond literally got a betrothal out of this. Jace negotiated protecting the Vale with dragons and promised the starks a marriage pact too. At 0:33, the line "Yet earlier today, I received an envoy from the King. Which is it? King or Queen? The House of the Dragon seems uncertain of its ruler," Borros Baratheon's criticism of both the Greens and the Blacks regarding the Iron Throne's succession is a highlight of this episode for me.
A big misstep on Lucerys' part i just noticed is that he should have just stated the message instead of delivering it. Handing Borros a letter he can't even read clearly pissed him off. The Maester was not present already, so it's likely Aemond did not make the same mistake.
And he put his hand on the dagger in front of Borros and his men. It's like "What's up boy? You're a messenger, you think I'm so dishonourable as to hurt you?"

The subtle look from aemond is great. The maester wasn’t there before because he wasn’t need, aemond came with the message himself. Luke came with a note because he was still young and not fully trusted to be diplomatic and say what was needed, meaning it wasnt important enough to send someone who could negotiate if needed like aemond did to secure the treaty with a marriage. Even without aemond getting married the clear pick would have been the greens, they’re the only faction that actually treated Baratheon like they needed him and not just saying “remember your promise do what I say”
Or...Aemond arrived way earlier that thay. Maybe in the morning, delivered the message just like luke, and was invited to spend the rest of the day as borro's guest. No need to overcomplicate things.
Had they sent Rhaenys she would have likely gotten Borros on the side of the blacks and also would definitely not have died because Meleys is the quickest dragon at that time and as obedient as can be to Rhaenys... Aye, that she is. The castle was said to have been constructed by Bran the Builder, the same Stark who built the Wall and Winterfell, after six other castles had been destroyed by fierce storms. Storm's End's walls are incredibly thick, eighty feet thick on the seaward side, to withstand the storms that constantly batter them and are said to have powerful spells woven into them to keep out dark magicks.
Aemond never blinks when his face is shown in a close-up. That makes him very unsettling, on top of him wearing an eye patch and constantly having that little smirk. Great job by Ewan Mitchell!
Rhaenyra could have avoided this feud and saved Luke's life If she had just accepted that Luke needed to be punished. Not saying they should have taken his eye but any kind of justice and repayment towards Aemond
@@kiiiirbzzz I think sending Luke and Aemond to be fostered together as Wards somewhere neutral would have been a great idea. Rhaenyra should have also tried to make amends by giving Aemond some lands and some coin. Aemond some is a second son after all and it is unclear if he would stand to inherit anything. It was pretty foolish of Rhaenyra to send her sons to call up major allies across the realm with nothing in return to show for their loyalty. Even as a token of good faith if nothing else. Sending them with nothing was ludicrous and arguably cost her son his life indirectly.
This is why i criticized her even though i support her. You think of all the times she had to stand up as the heir. She did not and fooled around instead of being responsible. Didn’t realize that until the blacks and greens were at each other’s throats with viserys.
Well, Rhaenyra is one of, if not the most incompetent characters in the Dance, so its no surprise. Idk what she expected, when she knew that Baratheons are a proud family and the Greens are also looking for allies
Lucerys should have lied and told lord borros that he will marry one of his daughters that was the only bargaining chip the greens had, If aemond wasn’t an unbetrothed one eye loser the greens would have little to offer
Luke fucked around and found out. Also funny how Lord Baratheon called out the entitlement where they demand he goes to war for them without offering anything in return compared to King Aegon II that offered a marriage into the royal family

Sounds like the weather on the Texas Gulf Coast where I've lived my entire life and getting thoroughly fed up with. If you want to meet some grumpy people come to Houston during the summertime especially in August. We hate the summers here.
I'd actually get along quite nicely there lol I love the rain and cloudy days.
Also a good opportunity to reveal his sapphire eye.
It only seems that way because the show-runners changed sth that didn't need changing. If it had gone down like it did in the books it would've made way more sense.

Borros' reply is almost word for word what is written in the histories. If I were to guess I would say that Robert took a little creative license with how his ancestor would have responded.
Yeah it seems in character for Robert to add the insult when the real Boros would've been more diplomatic
it would've made more sense if he called Lucaerys a pup and Rhaenyra a b*tch
@@lindsey7951 Bobby b would call Rhaenyra a dumb whore like he did to Lancel
Yeah, Robert also said Lucerys must've wet himself. He exaggerated a little...
