**GASP** A Super-Heavy sized Urbie???? I'm in love.
It's truly a shame that a kit this size isn't readily available as a packaged product. That said, it wasn't too hard to print it out in a few pieces at the proper scaling - though my parts' edge quality left a little something to be desired. Also, thanks for the watch!
Pro tip. If you drop the resin prints into hot water it will become soft enough so you can cut it with an exacto. Needs to be pretty hot tho. Boil the water. Pour into a container. Plop the part in and wait about a minute. Also, liked and subscribed. Great video
Thanks for the hot tip, and the watch! I'll have to make a point to remember this going forward.
You've convinced me that if I start making videos for my minis to do them all in Texan. I have no idea how I found your little channel, but I appreciate the quality you put into your presentation. Keep up the good work!
Thanks my fellow accented miniature enthusiast! I absolutely think that recording the mini painting experience adds a whole 'nother level of enjoyment to the hobby - that said, it's turned out to be a ton of extra work 😅I foolishly thought that making these videos would be a great way to paint more models, and in a way it was... but editing is its own kind of punishment!
Digressing, thanks for the watch and the compliment. I'm intent to keep 'em coming all year long!
Southern accent BT players represent! (I'm in Texas, originally from NW FL).
I'm sure y'all already do, but southerners who don't know, check out Black Pants Legion, and Tex Talks Battletech. Welcome to Van Sandt.
@@RiftShredemption Seconded. I'm anxiously awaiting that next episode. Will we have another installment by summer? Who knows 😜 They are indeed the best documentaries out there.
@@countryfriedminis When I saw the Urbie, my first thought was Tex and the BPL would LOOOOVE this. Nice work man. She's a beaut'.
They are indeed the best BT Vidocs available. In my head, he's the Leutin09 of the BT community. Agreed on the next episode, hope a new one is out by summer.
I enjoyed this video. Thank you! My wish to make a homebrew 28mm Battletech game is getting closer to becoming a reality, after watching this. Thanks again! 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏
Thanks for the watch, fellow giant battlemech enthusiast! Printing out some mechs in large scale is super accessible, if a bit finnicky. Definitely a really doable aspirationPlus, painting all the weathering effects in this scale is quite fun!
@@countryfriedminis I'm pretty sure! I can't wait to get my hands on one. Thanks again!
thanks for the ASMR tingles 👌
Your enjoyment is well appreciated. I'm of the intention to make calming content as best I can, though it's a bit difficult to master the audio just right at times. Still, every piece is an opportunity to grow and learn the craft😉
Great looking 28mm Mech! Show em what a Southern boy can do :) Its a great little mech AC10 small lazer its great for 28mm .God Bless Grey from Virginia:)
I tell yah, I had an absolute blast putting this thing together. Paintin' up such a big model was such a treat compared to the smaller scale work. If these big mechs weren't so impractical, I could see putting together a lance and battling it out at large scale!
@countryfriedminis Very cool you did an Awesome job:) Hey if you ever want to sell that mech please let me know:) Not trying to bug ya good ?
@@grimdesaye6534 I don't think I'd sell this one in particular, but the thought had crossed my mind to paint up some more 28mm stuff and list it on eBay after the vid goes live. Perhaps your chance to own one is just around the corner 😜
@countryfriedminis I understand sorry about it repeating I don't know what's going on with my UA-cam
@@grimdesaye6534 No worries, I've seen it happen before. It's no trouble to prune the repeats down 😜
It's not common that I find a new channel and decide to follow less than a minute in, but I sure did here!
Wow! That's absolutely one heck of a compliment. I'll continue to strive towards content improvement as the video production continues 😜I hope that you'll continue to enjoy future country fried content drops.
Aries sponsors a lot of BT content around here. I have to say, your Sponsor sting is the best I've seen so far! Also want to add that their customer service is top notch!
Another very enjoyable video, CFM. I'm a player not a painter or printer, but your videos are quickly becoming some of my favorites.
I genuinely love Aries Games and Minis - the prices are unbeatable and the customer service is indeed absolutely-top notch. I can't imagine picking up blisters of Ironwind Metals mechs anywhere else! Glad you enjoyed the ad too; I really wanted to try and make it a near-seamless bit of the entertainment as well as showcase my passion for the company.
Also, thanks a million for your enjoyment of the content. I'll strive to keep it coming at the highest standard I can bring. Not everything will be battletech, naturally, but it is a passion of mine and will feature fairly heavily! Expect some fun DnD-style minis, Infinity the Game, and much more😄"Edna, crazy cat lady" is on the painting bench now, and perhaps another fun surprise is in store this month.
With the filing flat surfaces that you're going to glue up, try gluing sandpaper to a tile and sanding with figure 8 movements. If you use wet type sandpaper, you can soak it and that will stop the resin dust flying around too. Once you've sanded the nubs off, you'll have helped to correct the warping at the same time. Hot water might help to lessen the nubs etc. Warping is a problem, I'm no expert in avoiding it on big pieces, if you have any tricks, please share. All the best.
Thanks for the solid tips once more, kind viewer! Exploring these projects is always gonna be a learning process, and by sharing my experiences with y'all, we open a dialogue to communicate mutual growth in the hobby 😋
@@countryfriedminis no worries, thank Adam Savage for getting me onto that one with the stuck down sandpaper - holding bits like that and sanding them always means catching the edges and making the flattening even harder. I've been in this 'hobby' since about '85, plus one of my best mates is a guy called Mel, The Terrain Tutor, (check him out, some great terrain stuff there) so I've been lucky to pickup and share a lot of tips and skills over the years. Battletech is a new one for me, I'm really enjoying printing and painting mechs at the moment.
Brilliant work. Also, congrats on the Gyarados!
Thanks a bunch on both! There's something super satisfying to see all that exp farming pay off, and the instant return of combat efficacy is so very nice.
2 main reasons why you might want a proper masking tape rather than whatever tape you have lying around - both are related to whatever glue might be in use on the tape:
a) Some tapes adhere too strongly to masked off painted areas, and damage the paint finish when removed. (clearly not an issue here, as area not yet even primed)
b) some tapes leave adhesive residue on the area once removed, interfering with later paint application. (depending on paints in use and type of adhesive, can usually be removed via a suitable cleaning agent without damaging paint)
At the end of the day, if it works it works.
Thanks so much for the tips! It's easy to seem like I'm simply fishing for comments for the metrics, but I was genuinely curious. Much appreciated 😁
I don't know if the founding fathers ever dreamed a Battletech mini would get such a great paint job. Bravo.
Thanks! This one was a ton of fun to paint. Getting to use the various weathering effects on such a large scale was truly enjoyable.
Pure greenstuff doesn't sand very nicely, I'd recommend making a mixture of greenstuff and miliput for your gap filling needs, the two compounds combine into a very versatile putty with the best of both worlds. The detail capture of the greenstuff and the strength and sandability of the miliput. The miliput is also water soluble, so you can make a surfacing wash to take care of any 3d print lines you may encounter. Shouldn't be too hard to get a hold of in the states, especially if you're in a major city, a good arts and crafts shop should have it, or it should be easy to order from somewhere.
Lovely build, always love to see urbie's and 28mm battlemechs in the wild.
Thanks for the hot tip, fellow trashmech enthusiast! I've seen that mixture occasionally out in the hobby wilds. I'll be on the lookout for some next time I'm out to restock supplies😋
Excellent videos mate, you made a better start than I did great work 😂
Thanks brother! The early stuff is really rough around the edges, but it's remarkable how quickly a style has come forth. This journey has been super fun so far, and I expect there's so much more of that fun to be had!
Came for the Trashcan, stayed for the Taurian Concordat Hospitality!
Thanks for the interest, fellow feudal future enthusiast! Your comment has me thinking I'd like to paint up a small Taurian Defense Force contingent 🤔Perhaps a bit of content focusing on the periphery powers is on the horizon!
That's one big honking stompy urbie! I love it.
It's amazing what becomes accessible with 3d printing!
I really enjoyed the video and the use of inexpensive paints. It turned out great!
Thanks so much! I really try to use some of these paints whenever I can, it really keeps me in touch with the early days of my hobbying.
Great production value! Super sweet!
Thanks fellow battletech enthusiast! I'm always striving to improve and bring my best for y'all
Just discovered your channel - love it🤙. Best regards from Germany
Thanks for the watch! More fun stuff to come in the near future😋
Nice work!
Thanks! This was one of my favorite projects
What a giant boy!🎉
So LARGE
That urbie pilot looks a lot like something I made a number of years ago. Was it originally seated on top of a headless atlas?
That's the one! I just realized I didn't link the .stl files in the description😵I'll amend that right away
Well to fill in gaps such as those shown, the trick is to use Super-Glue but to add body to it, sprinkle on Baking Soda and this in turn makes for an easier fill in, which in turn does not have to be filed down so much, as it makes plastic in the realms of resin. Suggest you try it and see the results.
I've seen this trick a few times while watching a few different crafting channels. It must've slipped my mind in the moment 😅 I'll definitely have to give it a go next time. Thanks for the hot tip, kind viewer!
Scotch style tape can leave residue that can cause paint to not adhere properly to that area that's it
Thanks for the tip! I'll make sure to keep some of the more kinder tape in my arsenal! Wouldn't want unsightly (unintended) chipping after all 😋
Nice to see you back, brother. I think I'd like to do one of these with a pedal on the side of the foot and a hinge on the back of the cockpit. Keep up the good work\m/
Now that would be a fantastic project 🤩I'm 100% positive there's a market for Urbanmech trashcans... perhaps someone aught pitch Catalyst a product idea!
@@countryfriedminis I was thinking about basing it with a Dougram Bigfoot throwing away Jack's bag and cup. Though throwing sprues in one wouldn't be bad either.
Get your self a large flat sanding stone. makes it a lot easier to get those large flat matting surfaces actually flat.
This tip recently came up in one of my livestreams. Definitely something on the shopping list; thanks for the recommendation!
Oh my god i was not prepared for actual mini frying
Indeed! I'm looking to reshoot that scene for some future content as well
I feel the strange need to wear a respirator when doing anything with resin. Thanks!
Safety first! Honestly, a decent respirator is well worth a $25-30 investment - that's really such a low price in the grand scheme of hobby supply prices.
@@countryfriedminis oh don't worry about me, now I have an excuse to wear this gas mask.
@@highjumpstudios2384 How fun!😝
Looks great! Might want to check your pressure on your compressor. Looked like some speckling on your zenithal. Apart from that, I loved the video! I kept thinking that you should light the cockpit. Then you did! Take care buddy. Would love to do a mech Collab some day.
-John
Good lookin' out there regarding the compressor. I'm thinkin' it's nearly time for an upgrade, but I might be alright just picking up a higher quality regulator 🤔
Also - a collab sounds pretty fantastic to me. I've got an idea kickin' around that I'll draft up and get to you sometime soon!
@@countryfriedminis sounds good. Keep in touch!
... this was already looking impressive but the freehanded logo... wowsers.
Thanks! I've really been enjoying painting tiny freehand insignia on my 'mechs as of late - I think it's an excellent opportunity to practice brush control and color matching😋My main inspiration for that comes from a Camo Specs Online video from about 5 years ago, here's the link: ua-cam.com/video/QFHy3y3xFEM/v-deo.html
@@countryfriedminis Awesome, thanks!
Lol "shit!" good thing that was only rubbing alcohol. Great advice on the respirator. You have really helpful funny vids man! Smash and scribed!
First off, thanks so much for the sub! There's more nonsense and fun stuff to come 😉Really glad you enjoyed the "accident" moment, it's just the type of ridiculous stuff I want to pepper in the videos.
you better remember this comment when you hit 1 million subs. and you better mention me every time at the end and at every credit scene. if you dont, i will break your minis when youre not looking.
This has been a Country Fried Minis production, brought to you by Mr. David Muller😜A most appreciative thanks for your belief in this silly channel!
excellent
Glad you enjoyed the project 😀
how would one go about getting a hero scale version of the BattleTech and Star Wars stuff with out owning a 3D printer?
That's a great question! I think you may be able to find folks who print and sell large scale mechs on etsy. Alternatively, feel free to come on over to our discord server discord.gg/ujdNuEmbfC and shoot me a message, I'd be happy to negotiate a printing project.
You know what would have been really smart removing all those areas that you drilled out with power tools in oh I don't know meshmixer or something this would have allowed you to both avoid needing a respirator and saved you resin that's like a double win or something
While you're not wrong at all, the decision to add in the pilot and interior lighting happened as I was filming! It may very well be worthwhile to go back and take a little time editing the stl files😅 Thanks for this wonderful hindsight, good sir!
Do you have a gluten-free recipe for country fried minis? Wife is caeliac and I'd love to be able to share with her.
Sure thing! Just substitute gluten free all-purpose flour in your dredge, and a little bit of cornstarch for extra crunch😛I recommend Bob's Red Mil brand, but there's several to choose from.
@@countryfriedminis A scholar and a gentleman!
Can't wait to see what mad project comes next!
@@derekburge5294 Stay tuned for more silliness!
Would love to build/paint a 28 mm Marauder, Dragon or Warhammer... gosh, there are so many great designs.
Ended up doing the Marauder in 28mm, and it was an absolute dream! Got another big battletech project coming out at the end of the month as well
A round base? This is Battletech, that uses hex bases. 😁
I was wondering when this would be pointed out 😜I know, I'm absolutely a heretic!
Thats so funny..i just finished painting session on a 15mm atlas and i came across this.
Quite lovely. That sounds like a really fun paint tbh. May very well have to steal your idea in another content drop😄
@@countryfriedminis Well if your looking for big pretty mechs i do have stls available.
@@languin12 Ooh, that sounds fantastic. Taking a peek now, and I definitely recognize that Macleod Heavy from /r/battletech😜If you feel up to it, toss me an email (it's on my "about" page) and we can perhaps discuss some content!
I feel like I'm listening to country 100. But with urban mechs.
I can't imagine a better mech for a country boy in the big city. Something pretty funny about this now that you've pointed it out.
URBI URBI URBI URBI URBI URBI URBI URBI
She's a larger than life chassis, and now even larger.
FIRST! Somehow. I'm surprised actually. Uh. Not sure what else to say
Congrats! I enjoy snagging that first comment slot myself, it's a real treat 😜
@@countryfriedminis Honestly, I love the Urbanmech, but I think a different weapon would be better for it. An Urbie with an ac5, or two AC2s would be a better investment, because it would have a longer reach with it's guns. A couple of Urbies with AC2s would be the equivalent of a Rifleman, for less cost. Plus more coverage, cause there would be more individuals.
@@NemFX I think the closest loadout to that has to be the UM-R70 with its Rotary AC5! I'm definitely a fan 😀
