When you spoke on not letting certain things having control over your identity, that was me with weed lol.. done for good now; was completely holding me back..
Bro that’s real af fr is you check my channel I made a video about that too . But I think weed can definitely take control over you and the thing is it’s hard to realize unless you take the time to actually realize it
This video is insane brodie.. because I can resonate with it so heavily.. I had locs for 3 years (started in Aug of 2020) I cut them off in Jan for a low cut just like you of this year because I wanted a fresh look/new identity because I also was/wanted to go into sales, but I also wasn't too sure.. if it was the right career path for me or not... I didn't really know what I wanted to do with my life.. but with time.. I figured out what I wanna do.. & like you I kept my locs because I planned/plan on reattaching them & am about to reattach them either Oct or Nov. But I just find it crazy how much I can resonate with this video & you. & how beautiful our culture is.. locs 100% are a amazing experience. They're our "crown". Wish you the best my brudda! & keep pushing out amazing content. Sending mad love & peace/vibes your way.. stay blessed
That’s what’s up bro ! I’m glad ppl can relate and yeah Locs are amazing I learned a lot honestly & now this about to be a whole new journey lol but stay blessed too 🙏🏿🙏🏿
I’ve been growing my hair for the last 3 years but for the last week I’ve been contemplating whether or not to cut them and go down the fade wave route, thanks for posting this 💯
I just started my loc journey in March but I like what you said about not wanting your locs to have power over you and limit the reach of your vision for yourself - more power to you my brother, respect 🙌🏾
Like you, I always had a low cut with taper growing up ( dad is big on public presentation & said it' would cause problems with my carrier and growth and people would think im a criminal or not serious about life, & mom always wanted me to keep the low fade ) so I kept my hair low until I was 21/22. I grew mine out because I wanted a change. 1st 3 years of growth was great, but as my hair grew, I noticed people becoming scared of my hair or don't respect me as much. That's fine, but then it started to affect my daily routine. Hair is always in the way of work & it became a problem when working in the heat with sweat or working in the rain. My boss started saying I need to care about my professional appearance which is what my dad said from the start..... Now I do not totally agree with them but enough people in the professional realm have advised to cut it or keep it low, the only people saying keep my hair are the normal people with nothing really going for them in my life. Rn I'm 26 years old male, having a crisis with my public image. Whenever I go to the bank or any meetings with clients I feel like my hair length is a major factor, they'll be sitting there staring at my hair, & I get the vibe they aren't a fan. So today im currently at 17 inches in length on longest, 13 inches on the shortest strand, & 102 twists which was interlocked 3 times. My hair is really healthy, no thinning, no breakage, my scalp isn't sensitive either. Im cutting mine tomorrow back to a low fade Saturday, September 14th, 2024. & yes ive thought really hard about this since march 2024, & ive decided to cut my hair to level up/ switch it up. Wish me luck !!
I cut mines off 2 days ago too bro. I cut mines off because they was breaking and thinning all over even when I was doing everything right. Also, it made me look rough, older, and it breaks my skin out because of the product. I have that taper fade with the nottie look now which i love and i am going to stick with the cut.. Great video homie
Just about everything you said is exactly why I am going to cut my locs off tooodayyy! I’m 25 too and I’ve been growing mine for two years as well (July 4th). I definitely feel like locs have given me a lot of confidence, but I know the doors I want to walk into. I am trying to also become a therapist and I want a change. Definitely understand what you saying! Good looks ! 🫶🏽
Glad you could relate 🙏🏿 but now been having my Locs cut for a while , I will say I do miss them almost like everyday lol !! I definitely understand I truly do but now looking back I wish I would of just stayed down because people opinions don’t matter but always do what’s best for you 🙏🏿 Good luck on whatever journey you pursue !!
Bro this is exactly what I’m thinking right now and you pretty much made that decision even clearer for me to make thank you fam! And I hope wherever you are in life right now is on an elevated path upward to all your new and upcoming dreams and goals come full circle with the universes present of success 💪🏾
Im omw to possibly chop mine now. I grew mine to see if I could stay committed to it. I also wanted to pull off the Killmonger look. I did that. Now its time for another chapter
Man same here i cut shit after 5 years bad energy and its hot in texas and mfs do treat u like weed head fasho man i loved em but its like when u wana make money im like fxk dese locs and i kept my shit so i can reatatch when im where i wana be and working so hard
I cut mine off a few months ago, after 3 years. I had 8 dreads fall out in the back, they kept thinning at the root, I think it was from the loctician retwisting them too tight. The top and sides were full though so nobody knew. But the back of my head was bald lol. I decided to just start over. I saved mine in a bag too, I counted 108 locs
I felt the same way and had mines cut yesterday, except I had the barber keep as much length as possible. So technically speaking I've been growing my "Afro" since last year November lmfao. But fr though, I didn't want to start low when I'm on a journey to grow a big Afro. I want to try different styles as well. Braids, Cornrows, Sponge Curls, Afro. Dreadlocks felt restrictive after awhile.
As a black man you must have a low cut. To get opportunities outside of trade and warehouses. For me I prefer to keep my hair long. It’s understandable to change for careers
If you work in a client facing role yes but if you work in a role that doesn’t have contact outside of your company where your peers and leaders respect you and you have a good reputation then it doesn’t matter as long as you’re presentable and not a distraction from the job. Roles like this where you can be more of yourself; corporate accounting, software engineering, IT, etc. If you want to be able to express yourself don’t pursue careers that require you to be front and center representing the brand.
That's not true. I'm a licensed registered dental Hygienist and my locs have never held me back. You just have to let your skills and education speak for you.
Thing with dreads if you have them the upkeep has to be immaculate not just dreaded 90 percent of dudes with dreads shit is not immaculate they dont limit you when they immaculate at all especially now
This is very true! I feel this goes for hair in general too. Our hair is powerful, and taking care of it and having it look amazing is highly key whether we have dreads or not. As a Black male, we are also aware that we are under a constant microscope with our hair and how we wear it. This is unfortunately what it is.
