- The UNESCO Media Partnership Forum took place at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, France, on 27 November 2024. The Forum aimed to provide an open space for exchanges among Indigenous and non-Indigenous media professionals. It sought to reinforce existing relationships and foster new ones, with a view to establishing long-lasting professional partnerships. The event served as a platform to consolidate a set of recommendations for the implementation of Article 16 of the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP).
The Forum brought together 26 media organizations from 18 countries. Among these organizations, 20 are Indigenous-led media, while 6 are national public service media with well-functioning Indigenous departments or actively covering Indigenous issues, among them the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC), the Associated Press (AP), Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC/Radio-Canada), the Deutsche Welle (DW) Akademie, and the Swedish Radio Sámi Rádio. There were 44 invited experts representing 29 countries, including 30 representing 27 Indigenous ethnicities from 19 countries and 14 non-Indigenous from 13 countries. The event was open to the public both in person and online.
