My CYA is high and my chlorine level is low a lot. Free chlorine today was 0. My PH was high. Thanks for the tip about not just adding 1 gallon of liquid chlorine, obviously I need to keep more in there because of my high CYA. And I can't use the tablets because of that already high CYA.
I'm just opening my pool for the season. Never had a pool before. Had it professionally opened and initial shock from a pool company. But can't get free chlorine up at all. I already have several tablets in the feeder. Am I able to combine liquid chlorine directly into the pool as well?
Yes, and I would recommend getting liquid chlorine in the pool as soon as possible and anytime the free chlorine goes down to zero. With that being said I would check your stabilizer level to make sure it’s at least at 30-50ppm and never lower. I would recommend that your pool is running 8-10 hours daily. Add roughly about 3 gallons of liquid to your pool if it’s 20,000 and up and retest the free chlorine tomorrow. Make sure you have tablets in the feeder weekly as well. If there is any algae you will need to use liquid chlorine for a few days at least to kill it off.
How do you measure the two different chlorine types you mentioned? My strips only have a measurement for free chlorine and it has been at zero for a long time. Recently I was told the conditioner level is too low and so it was raised to about 70-80 because I was told that it would hold the chlorine better. Then since the ph was off the chart high,I was told to add 100 oz of 15 percent muriatic acid, which is what I had.Ok so that brought down the alkalinity and ph level to a good range and so then I was told to add chlorine,40 oz. I added it and nothing happened. By the way,I just read that the chlorine should be added at night. Is this true or at what time of day is it safe to add it,cuz the sun doesnt go down til 8pm right now. Must it be dark? I have been adding no more then 32 oz of muriatic acid at once and waiting 4 hrs before adding more. Do I need to only add a small amount of liquid chlorine (10 percent) before adding more and if so how many oz. at once? Lastly I have a salt cell which seems useless and wont make chlorine. Any advice. Thanks for your help
How many gallons of water does your pool hold? Is this above ground or inground pool? I can give you the recommendations I just need to know roughly how many gallons of water it is
@@ClearlySeen Its an inground pool. 10,000 gallons of water. I ended up dumping an entire jug of chlorine (128 oz)in tonight since after putting in 40 oz yesterday nothing changed. I ran the pump for an extra 5 hrs last night and tonight also. When I tested the water 30 mins ago it actually showed a little chlorine around 1/2 or 2/3 ppm. But can you clarify if the chlorine must be added when its dark out. thanks
It’s best to add when the sun is down because the UV rays is what burns up chlorine. Make sure your pump is running around the clock and does not shut off if it has been shutting off that’s what’s going on. Also I would recommend adding another jug the whole thing and making sure to stay out of the pool until you can maintain a good chlorine level. What kind of testing kits or strips are you using?
Also I would recommend two Gallons I was thinking you were using the jugs that have 2 gallons. Typically when your pool is 10,000 gallons you only need 1 gallon to shock the pool in this case you’re having troubles keeping a chlorine level so I’m gonna recommend 2 gallons at one time.
@@ClearlySeen They arent good. Its hth and I can barely tell what color each little box on the strip have changed to because its blurry. What do you suggest I get? I was told that the Tylor drop test is good. For how long should I run the pump day and night? Also you talk about shocking the pool and I have never done that. How do I know when thats necessary? Once I get the pool balanced will it stay that way if I check it weekly? Lastly what about this salt cell I have. It doesnt seem to be doing anything. Plus I am supposed to clean it every 3 mths. grrrr
I would recommend you doing a partial drain and fill of your pool first to get the stabilizer to around 30ppm. Once you have done that shock your pool with roughly 2 gallons of liquid chlorine and balance your total alkalinity and ph. When your free chlorine is zeroed out you will always need shock the pool.
Im having the same issue as listed here. My CYA is to high and my chlorine is low. So right now I have green algea. So for 13000 gallon above ground pool. How much liquid chlorine do you recommend? Also im worried about bleaching or fading my liner. I just replaced the liner, because of over shocking in the past. Thanks in advance.
I would go with one 2 1/2 gallon jug if they sell those at your pool store if not Just get 2 gallons add it at nighttime run the filter 24/7. If there’s no change the next day then go with at least 3 gallons also it’s best to brush the pool down right before you put it in and clean your filter daily. When the algae is killed then I would replace water by draining 1 to 2 feet of water and refilling it and on the next day testing the CYA again.
@@ClearlySeen Thank you. One more question. When I called earlier to have the jugs set aside, Leslie pool suggested I dilute the liquid to halt prevent bleaching my dark vinyl pool liner. Do you concur? If so half and half or more or less? So if , you are saying add 2 1/2 gallon tonight and possibly 3 gallons tomorrow?;;^
I typically would try three or 4 gallons of liquid chlorine and make sure not to swim for a day and a half. If there’s any algae in the pool, you’re gonna have to go higher than that.
@@ClearlySeenI bought 6 gallons and just put 4 in. How long should I wait and what level of FC am I looking for? 12? Thank you so so much from my lil ones and myself!
Free chlorine is good at 3. To shock the pool is important from time to time. If the pool ever gets cloudy all of a sudden shock it just wait until the chlorine drops down over a day or two around 3-4ppm.
@@ClearlySeenwith the combined chlorine at 12 and the free at 3, I have milky water, which is why I wanted to be sure if 4 gallons would be enough.😢 I do appreciate you replying to me!
Since you have a free chlorine level of three already, 4 gallons should be helpful run it over night so it can filter. . Just make sure to clean your filter tomorrow.
If you’re just trying to get a chlorine level, just go with a half a gallon and recheck it the next day I recommend letting it run overnight once you put that in
Great video! I have added 5 pds of stabilizer to my pool but its still not holding chlorine nor is the stabilizer showing up on a reading. What do you recommend I do next? Thanks!!
@@ClearlySeen its a 27 foot round pool, yesterday i added 3 pounds of stabilizer and ( 1 pd every 20 minutes) then at 9pm last night i added 2 pds of granulated shock. I have vacuumed the pool 3 times to waste and added some algaecide. My water is clear but just doesnt look right.
I would switch up to liquid chlorine and stay away from Granular chlorine since that is an above ground pool I would go put in at least 2 1/2 gallons of liquid chlorine
@@ClearlySeen can i use regular chlorine like you would use for laundry?? I just went to walmart and pool store looking for liquid chlorine and these is a shortage. Should i add anymore stabilizer?
Your going to need at least 2 gallons of liquid chlorine to get the levels back to normal if your going to use household bleach use 4 gallons because it’s weaker then pool store liquid.
Pretty much any thing inside your pool when it comes to yard debris organic debris will lower the chlorine levels. You’re gonna want to vacuum out your pool net it and then if the chlorine has zero free chlorine you’re gonna want to shock the pool with liquid or granular chlorine making sure your chemistry is in line.
so i’ve run into a problem that i haven’t had before, changed out sand this year, added alkalinity, had high stabilizer last year and was told no more tabs a now stabilizer is low -(currently have tabs in floater) ph is a tad low and alkalinity a tad low, i’ve added 3 more pounds of alkalinity (27 x 4.5 round) and still get same readings.. on the low end of good. in my impatience i added a whole bottle of clarifier cause it was cloudy- and guess what, it’s been 2 weeks and still no change in cloudiness (i over clarified it - i know because there’s bubbles at the top when i brush it (like soap)... what do i do at this point? flock it? or just go with it until it clears if it ever will.. ??
I would check your free chlorine levels and more than likely I would recommend shocking it with liquid chlorine running it overnight and then cleaning your filter the next day you should be good. I have over added clarifier before and never ran into the bubble issue. I have seen people over adding algaecides and having that issue. Just remember when your pool is cloudy I recommend not turning the filter off for at least a full 24 hrs so it can filter.
@@ClearlySeen thank you!!! sounds good - i’ll try the liquid chlorine over shocking it again! what would you recommend if the bubbles are due to too much algaecide? would that also make it cloudy?
Usually cloudiness is going to come from either Low sanitizer levels or high pH. Yes if you overuse algaecides It can get bad enough to where you have to do a partial drain and fill. I had a customer years ago who added a couple of gallons of algicide and when you disturbed the water you would see bubbles form and I ended up having to replace half of her water to correct the problem.
@@ClearlySeen oh nooo... a couple of gallons?? oops! No, i didn’t do that - i started out with a high PH level ... and then lowered it.. interesting! i’ll try the extra chlorine shock again.. thank you again!!!! fingers crossed!!
i have a above ground pool a 18 round i had socked the pool 3 times with 2 bags of sock bag for 3 days now and its still showing o ppm free chlorine and i also even have chlorine tablets in it and its cloudy as well please HELP ME
I would check and adjust the pool stabilizer first. Then I would add 1 gallon of liquid chlorine a day for two days then recheck the free chlorine. Make sure to run your filter nonstop until the pool is clear and clean the filter daily. If the stabilizer is low the chlorine will be burned up quickly from the sun. Also make sure to have chlorine tablets in a chlorinator or floater. Do not swim until the chlorine has lowered down to 1-3ppm once it’s cleared up.
Hi, I am a first time take care my own pool , yesterday I took water to store let them check and water show Ph high to 8.3, fc and tc 83, calcium high 861, cyanuric acid 158, phosphates is 225 and TDS is 3600 after result came out they told me just try to get ph down and put liquor chlorine and check again then they me this winter I have to drain the pool water and get fresh one, so what you advise has any way to keep the water and is it safe to swim cause I has 3 kids I don’t want the water harm if not safe Thanks.
I would recommend replacing by 3/4 of the water refilling it and having it retested at the pool store because your stabilizer is very high And your phosphates are high once you have the new water and it’s rebalanced you should be good to go but always shock the pool with liquid chlorine when you refill it.
Help please. Been keeping up since April to ph running low. Finally got one of best readings to now shows no chlorine. I put extra in last night to shocked and still had 2 tablets added additional plus some granular extra to baking soda. I did brush around and some algae in bottom to still not showing today. I’m beside myself as have not even gotten in yet. I did pick up some ph up but tired this first to still not showing to now all off again. Have ran 24/7 all summer? Should I add ph up ? Vacuum up fiber stuff with a sock? I don’t know to worse yet this year and just became clearest over last week? Thanks hope you see.
I would recommend you to kill the algae first with liquid chlorine. I would need to know the gallonage of your pool before I can give you an exact amount to add. Just remember when you see live algae after shocking it just means most of the time that you didn’t add enough. With the ph I would check raise it ph up if your total alkalinity is good if your total alkalinity is low then use baking soda.
Stabilizer also known as cyanuric acid helps keep the chlorine from being burned off by the sun’s UV rays. Without it present in the pool water you will not be able to maintain a good chlorine level.
When i went to a pool supply place a stabilizer was never mentioned. Algae,Shock,Alkalyne,Ph products and thats about it. Since were having a shortage the normal products i use to get from Walmart either non existent or double because i guess inflation. So now im using pool chemicals i never used from a pool supply store. Im sure they’re the same things but im just not use to them. My water will not chlorinate. My alkaline is at 180 and PH is just below the recommended 7.2. I say my Alk is 180 because of the color strip. My chlorines is at the faint color right before the 2.0. Im struggling. About to take a water sample to the pool store. Thank you for your reply
Do I just by stabilizer as I have never, and how much do I put and do I do daily as my chlorine us always low,I have a 15,000 gallon above ground 24 pool
Small 2300 above ground 8x12 4ft pool. Shocked a few times still getting 0 free chlorine readings. Went to pool store computerized testing showed very high total chlorine 9.58ppm, but low free chlorine 0.75. Ph amd alkalinity were good, cya was 37. Phosphates were 226. Guy recommended 2 lbs oxidizer shock for my pool, did this last night and still no chlorine today via test strip. How do I fix this? Pool water is perfectly clear and looks healthy just not testing well.
I have an intex pool with a saltwater generator and sand filter. My pool is a little over 10,000 gallons. My SWG quit a couple weeks ago and had to order a new one. Since I've hooked up the new one, I've shocked the pool several times but I can't get any chlorine reading and my pool is cloudy. My test strips say total alkalinity is normal, ph is low, and stabilizer is low. I know stabilizer is important but I thought I needed to get the chlorine level up before I added it back in. And I can't get my chlorine levels up. I've also had my SWG running on "boost" after shocking but still nothing. Your help would be greatly appreciated!
Without having a proper stabilizer level you will not be able to maintain any chlorine reading it will be burned up by the sun. So get that right then shock the pool with 1 gallon of liquid chlorine.
36x15 unground pool with saltwater generator. All my levels are on point but keep getting zero chlorine readings on my Taylor test kit. Pump runs 10 hrs a day and cell set at 75-80 percent .. system is less than 3 months old
How about the spa for (FCL) Mine is Low & how may I calibrate it with Numbers.? Example 100-900 something like that... btw i just finished changing the water.? Thank You...
I put the small chlorine tablets in a floater and shocked the pool with Clorox shock and it’s still showing no chlorine and everything else is to high I have a Intex pool 12ft by 30 it’s not big
Ok so I have inground pool with approx 22, 000 gals and I never get enough chorine reading with tablets alone my pool is crystal clear and I run it 8 hours a day I live in the northeast of the country. What can I do to get chorine reading with tablets etc
That’s a good question and I can help you with that. You’re going to want to make sure that your pool has pool stabilizer in it between 30 and 50 ppm at all times and when was the last time that you shock to the pool I recommend liquid chlorine to boost it.
My readings show PH as high (8.4), chlorine as low (0), alkalinity as high (240) & stabilizer as ideal (30-50). I have shocked the pool twice this past week and my water is clear, I have dumped about a gallon of liquid chlorine as well but chlorine stays low. Is the PH and alkalinity being too high effecting my chlorine level? What can I do in this situation?
You’re going to need to bring your pH down to about 7.6 and your alkalinity you do not want higher than 120. I like the alkalinity to be around 90 in my clients pools. When the pH gets above 8.0 the chlorine cannot do its job properly. By simply lowering the pH and the total alkalinity down with muriatic acid or a granular acid and then re-shocking you should be able to maintain a good chlorine level. If this is not a salt pool you’re gonna wanna make sure to have chlorine tablets in the chlorinator or floater as well.
I have regular pH, no chlorine reading and low alkalinity. I’ve been trying to find solutions everywhere. Can’t find it :/ I’ve tried to shock the pool but there is still no reading. My pool is 4200 gallons. Do I raise alkalinity with baking soda first and then try to shock again or shock first and then adjust my chlorine? If I’ve shocked it and there’s still no reading, I should shock again? Please help
@@ClearlySeen I used almost a third of the Clorox Pool Shock Xtra blue. It got rid of the algae but the reading was still nothing. I was too scared to add in more but almost a week passed and now the algae is back. I do* have Pool Essentials Chlorinating liquid but I haven’t used it yet or anything :/
I would go to the local pool store and get a couple of gallons of liquid chlorine and put 1 gallon in today and 1 gallon and tomorrow what’s happening as you’re under shock in the pool it kills the algae looks a little better but You’re not able to maintain a chlorine level which indicates you do not use enough try that and let me know thank you
I've shocked my pool, all the pH, alkaline I got it to normal levels, leave a 3"tab of chlorine each week but still my chlorine is low. What do I do? Do I add more chlorine each week?
Stabilizer is going to keep the chlorine from burning off I would recommend 1lb but your going to need a test strip that checks for it so you don’t get it to high or low. I would use a old sock to put it in and hang it on the ladder. Then your going to need to shock it again I would use 1/2 gallon and retest the next day.
@@ClearlySeen thank you so much. After I do this and chlorine is at a good level, do you think I will run into the same issue and if so is stabilizing the only option to get chlorine high or could adding more chlorine work? Just trying to figure out what I would need to do if keeps happening
If stabilizer was never added to your pool then 100% is going to be the reason for your pool not able to keep a free chlorine reading. Just remember to regularly clean your filter and make sure that motor stays on 24/7. If the pool ever gets cloudy use liquid chlorine and make sure a tablet is floating at all times.
Hello there , and thank you for helping us. i have a small pool for my kids and i want them to be safe , the pool about 1100 gallons of water and need to shock the pool with hth liquid chlorine my question is how much liquid i need to shock the pool. note: ph/alk all is okay and i am using tablet too. let me know please thanks
I would use about 15oz of liquid shock and test the free chlorine level the next day. Always make sure not to swim until the free chlorine is within the correct range. I usually shoot for 2-3ppm of free chlorine and 7-4 to 7-6 ph.
We have a 12’ bestway hydro force and all our levels are ok except the chlorine. Every night we use 250ml of chlorinated liquid plus 3 chlorine tablets and still can’t get the chlorine levels up. Please assist me in getting the chlorine levels up. The water is clear and beautiful it’s just that one issue
Have you made sure that your stabilizer level is correct? You’re gonna want to maintain it between 30 and 50 ppm. If it’s below 30 that would be your reason why you cannot maintain the chlorine level. Are you using chlorine tablets?
My ph and alkaline is high I shocked my pool a few days ago (it was unbalanced when I added it) then two days after I added algacide I have a 2400 gal pool 12x39” and I have one 3” super puck in a floater what could be wrong? My free chlorine levels is zero
You’re going to need to bring the pH and Alkalinity levels down by using acid you need to make sure that you have pool stabilizer in it if you do not have stabilizer the chlorine will be burned up in one day. Get your stabilizer level to 50ppm and restock the pool once that is completed. Step 1 : lower ph and alkalinity with ph down Step 2 : get your pool stabilizer to 50ppm Step 3 : reshock the pool and keep a chlorine tablet in the floater. Hope that helps
My cya was 60 and I had zero chlorine on a generator. Everything was perfect and I even had the t-cell tested. Pool is run 24/7 on medium. Nobody could figure it out. Hayward told me it was chlorine lockout. Dump a ton of chlorine and it will fix it. Luckily I didn’t but I added one 3” tab and it suddenly started working again. One thing I’ve never done is shock my pool. My water always looks perfect and tests fine. I clean the pool daily, brush and vacuum weekly. It’s a year old and the water is still perfect. No clue what happened.
Sometimes even saw Pools will need shocking that’s going to depend on factors like swimmers rain, etc. the best way to go about it is to have some chlorine shock on you and add that whenever you see it go below one part per million. But it’s actually normal for it to happen from time to time keeping your stabilizer at 60 is good for salt pools. I would make sure that your pool is running 8-10 hours daily.
There’s two products that’s going to raise your pH 1 is sodium carbonate also known as pH up and one that is called sodium bicarbonate which is baking soda if your alkalinity needs to be increased just use baking soda it will raise both of them if your alkalinity is really high then just use pH up you can buy both of them at the local pool stores and places like Walmart sell them also. Just make sure to use the correct dosages and do not overdo it.
My inground vinyl pool had a 154 cyanuric acid level, run 8 hours a day, have had a 0.1 free chlorine and 0.1 total chlorine, a 7.8pH. Fighting some algae, but water is not discolored. Drained 1/2 of pool. Took it down to 112 cyanuric acid. For a month now, still have 0.1 levels for last month.
I would strongly recommend shock in your pool with a high amount of liquid chlorine I would need to know the amount of gallons of water to be able to give you the correct recommendation
@@ClearlySeen 4,787 gallons. Would appreciate your help. I am going to the pool store to get the liquid. How much do I need to super shock with that volume of water?
@@ClearlySeen Am trying to shock it tonight as the sun goes down. Is 8 hour run of filters long enough? My algae appears to be getting better. How I don't know. Water is not green, just residue on lining I brush up in the morning for it to be picked up by water filtering. Filters have been changed about every 3 days, no more than 1 week. Have been dealing with this for about 6 weeks. I now realize from watching videos the problem that Leslie pool or my experienced weekly pool guy missed. Chlorine demand. I'm a newbie at the pool care. My husband always took care of it.
Whenever you shock your pool use much more than you normally would because that’s the main issue that you’re dealing with and do not let the pump turn off for a day or two when it turns off there’s no filtration and no circulation of the chemicals and that enables algae to bounce right back
Opening pool, all ph, stabilizer etc levels are good, chlorine levels were low, around 2ppm, so I added 3 gal of liquid chlorine (24,000 gallon pool) Pool is a cloudy blue greenish color at the moment, more on the blue side now lol (had an algae problem). Any recommendations ?
I added your recommended amount , pool is looking more lively! Got a high free chlorine reading and it’s a nice cloudy blue at the moment. I am currently cleaning the filter cartridges as they’ve been filtering out the algae and tomorrow should I add this clarifier I have on hand? It was what was recommended to me by the pool shop. They told me to add enough for my size pool of Leslie’s clear aid
@@ClearlySeen awesome you’re a lifesaver. I’ve never done this before, just relying on the instructions on products and UA-cam videos… loads of UA-cam videos lol thank you so much !
Hey I’m a beginner in pools I got a small Intex Pool it’s 15x42 inches. I just got some test strips and the free chlorine is saying it’s at 0 I use one 3 inch puck of chlorine tablet and think that’s not enough it’s becoming a bit cloudy and a little bit of slimyness on the bottom of the pool which I think algae is growing. I’ve had the pool for about 2.5 weeks put new filter and I scrubbed it all today and added a whole 121 ounces of liquid bleach should that help? I also have pool shock should I put that in too I’ve only done a little bit of pool shock a week ago and backing soda because the alkalinity was low but now I’m having the cloudy/algae problem can you please help me on what next steps I should do thank you!
Sure, I will be glad to help you. I recommend using liquid chlorine from the pool store over bleach do to the strength of the chlorine. I would recommend putting in a gallon of liquid chlorine from the pool store and then brush the live algae so it’s stirred up so it will kill it faster. I would try that for a couple of days to see how that works. I recommend with that type of pool to upgrade to a sand filter with a larger motor if you have the standard motor with the small cartridge filter. I would stay away from any chemicals like phosphate removers because with the kind of pool you have that will clog the filter pretty fast. I would stay out of the pool for a few days during the process of killing the algae and remember when it’s slimy there isn’t enough sanitizer. Try to maintain a 3ppm level of chlorine and remember when it’s zeroed out it will require shocking. If the algae doesn’t die from the gallon add another one and make sure the pump is running around the clock.
Clearly Seen thanks so will actual pool chlorine it should clear the water up? The algae was barely growing. Also when the chlorine is zeroed out by shocking do you mean shocking it with raising the free chlorine levels above normal or dust pool shock?
Anytime your pool is cloudy I would use the pool store liquid chlorine that will help it clear up. When the free chlorine ever drops down below 1ppm normally you will need to use the liquid chlorine to shock the water. Chlorine tablets help maintain the chlorine levels, and liquid chlorine aka: shock is needed to achieve a chlorine level. Hope that helps
You can try muriatic acid you just want to be very careful you can get that at the pool store. I recommend if you do to wear Eye protection and gloves and do not splash it on the deck or on you you can try adding quarter of a gallon and recheck the chemicals the next day.
If you are using a chlorinator and takes longer then a week to dissolve then your going to need to remove the tablets and take a pot of boiling water and slowly pour it in the chlorinator to unclog it.

Your PH is going to need to be raised with sodium carbonate to get it to 7-2 to 7-4. If you still have algae with 5.0ppm of free chlorine then your going to need to reshock the pool but this time use liquid chlorine from the pool store. I would recommend 3 gallons not knowing your pool gallonage. You can email me at my email address in the about me page for further help.

I have put a good bit of chlorine in my pool, it's reading low, ph is reading low, total alkalinity is low, hardness is normal, cyanuric is low. What am I doing wrong?
Two things that are going against you the low pH, the low total alkalinity, and the low Cyanuric acid. The first thing that I would do in that pool is get the cyanuric acid/stabilizer to at least 30ppm. Then I would use baking soda to raise the total alkalinity and ph. Once your cyanuric is good shock it with liquid chlorine and add chlorine tablets to the chlorinator.

What sunglasses do u use or any polarized sunglasses?
This really helped. I am new to this. Like one week. I think I’ll be looking to you for more info. Thank your
How do you measure the two different chlorine types you mentioned?
Plus I am supposed to clean it every 3 mths. grrrr
Great video - what would you recommend when the stabilizer is high and the chlorine (free and total) are way to low?

Thank you.
Hi! My CC is 12 and FC is 3. How many gallons of chlorine for a 20,000 gal pool? My kids haven’t swam yet this summer.😢 Thanks!
I have a 3500 gallon pool can you tell me the amount of liquid chlorine i should use.

Thanks!!
OK I can help you with that how many gallons of water is your swimming pool? How much shock have you put either liquid chlorine or granular chlorine?
What about high ph and high alkalinity? How does that affect chlorine?
High Ph will cause the chlorine to be ineffective. When the ph and alkalinity are low then the chlorine is used up quicker.
I have a lot of small particles of decaying plant matter in the pool. I'm working to get that out but would that be causing rapid chlorine loss?
@@ClearlySeen and yeah this pool hasn’t turned off in almost 2 weeks... my electric bill is going to be crazy lol
Clearly explained. One question, how about high ph?
According to Leslie's pool service, I had high PH and I used dry acid to bring it down and balance it out
You can use dry acid which is usually called pH down or muriatic acid most of pool maintenance companies are going to use muriatic acid.
i have a above ground pool a 18 round i had socked the pool 3 times with 2 bags of sock bag for 3 days now and its still showing o ppm free chlorine and i also even have chlorine tablets in it and its cloudy as well please HELP ME
I would check and adjust the pool stabilizer first.
Thank You you helped me out a lot!
What is the stabilizer?
Test your pool for stabilizer try to get it to 40 ppm and you will be good. If it’s a salt pool then you will need to add it from time to time. I
Small 2300 above ground 8x12 4ft pool.
What kind of oxidizer did you use? And how much chlorine did you put in?
Adding the stabilizer now and picking up liquid chlorine. Should I run my SWG when I add the liquid chlorine or should I wait?
I wouldn’t turn that on until the stabilizer is dissolved but I would make sure your pools running 24/7 for now until this issue is resolved.
Did everything you said and my pool is doing great! Thank you so much for your help!

I put the small chlorine tablets in a floater and shocked the pool with Clorox shock and it’s still showing no chlorine and everything else is to high I have a Intex pool 12ft by 30 it’s not big
Do you know what your stabilizer levels are in your pool?
Please help
OK how much chlorine have you been putting in the pool and what type is it liquid chlorine or is it granular chlorine is it from the pool store?
@@ClearlySeen I used almost a third of the Clorox Pool Shock Xtra blue. It got rid of the algae but the reading was still nothing. I was too scared to add in more but almost a week passed and now the algae is back. I do* have Pool Essentials Chlorinating liquid but I haven’t used it yet or anything :/
I would go to the local pool store and get a couple of gallons of liquid chlorine and put 1 gallon in today and 1 gallon and tomorrow what’s happening as you’re under shock in the pool it kills the algae looks a little better but You’re not able to maintain a chlorine level which indicates you do not use enough try that and let me know thank you
@@ClearlySeen Thank you so much for your help. Do you think adding in that 1 gallon of liquid chlorine is too much for a 4,200 gal pool?
Whenever you do not have a chlorine reading or any algae you can’t really go overboard
I've shocked my pool, all the pH, alkaline I got it to normal levels, leave a 3"tab of chlorine each week but still my chlorine is low. What do I do? Do I add more chlorine each week?
What is your stabilizer level/gallons of water/how much shock did you use.
@@ClearlySeen 4400gal(intext pool),3gal of shock 10 days ago, what is stabilizer noted under on the testing strips/kits?
What is stabilizer ? Is that something I can purchase ?
Stabilizer is a swimming pool chemical that will protect the chlorine from being burned off by the suns UV rays.

Step 1 : lower ph and alkalinity with ph down
Step 2 : get your pool stabilizer to 50ppm
Step 3 : reshock the pool and keep a chlorine tablet in the floater.
Hope that helps

Can I leave puck floater in while adding ph down and leaving it in
My cya was 60 and I had zero chlorine on a generator.
Yes running the pump 8-10 hours daily.
What if my ph is too low in my pool how do I carry it up?

Have been dealing with this for about 6 weeks. I now realize from watching videos the problem that Leslie pool or my experienced weekly pool guy missed. Chlorine demand.
I'm a newbie at the pool care. My husband always took care of it.
Whenever you shock your pool use much more than you normally would because that’s the main issue that you’re dealing with and do not let the pump turn off for a day or two when it turns off there’s no filtration and no circulation of the chemicals and that enables algae to bounce right back
I would use no less than 2 gallons to really shock it hard
Opening pool, all ph, stabilizer etc levels are good, chlorine levels were low, around 2ppm, so I added 3 gal of liquid chlorine (24,000 gallon pool)
Pool is a cloudy blue greenish color at the moment, more on the blue side now lol (had an algae problem). Any recommendations ?
I would add another 4-5 gallons all at one time to shock the pool. If you under shock a pool it will continue to go green
Yes clarifier is the way to go once you have clean the filters and just make sure that your free chlorine level doesn’t dip below 2-3ppm.

I also have pool shock should I put that in too I’ve only done a little bit of pool shock a week ago and backing soda because the alkalinity was low but now I’m having the cloudy/algae problem can you please help me on what next steps I should do
thank you!
Why ph increase 7 to 7.8 after introduce chlorine? After 30 minutes
