I waited on him a handful of times at a restaurant in NYC. He came in the night that David Bowie died and shared a story about meeting him. He always tipped well and was polite, but was kind of brusk and bossy in his interactions in a way that made it hard not to feel like I was waiting on Silvio himself. I’ve waited on more celebrities than I can remember being a server at fancy places over the years, be he always stands out as one of my favs!
That’s very interesting! I feel like most of the actors in the show are a lot like their characters in reality, it’d be hard to separate the character when you’re attached to them for so many years. Do you have any nice insights into other celebs?
A bossy guy was one of your faves? Maybe you're too sensitive to be a server.
@@schrisdellopoulos9244 It's a New York thing. If you want nice, you move to Minnesota.
When he's getting ready to call for his check, you gotta recommend something else, and once he orders it? You bring it to him and say: "once I thought I was out?" And let him do the thing hahaha
I really liked the series. It's very much tongue in cheek as the Norwegians also make fun of their own stereotypes and culture. It had a huge audience in Norway when it was first shown.
@@therealjd4life It was a sheeps head, but you raise a great question. Would moose be called "Mooses" in this context? Imma call a liguist
The show did run out, Van Zandt wanted to do another season, but it was nixed by the Norwegians. Because It was the most violent television in Norways history.
@@sarcastaball I saw it on a talking sopranos video podcast, Steven Van Zandt said it himself. Ever watch it? Search here on UA-cam for Talking Sopranos Steven Van Zandt, it’s a great series, Michael imperioli and Steve Shirripa go through every episode and have guests on mostly actors from the series
Imagine is David Chase decided to do a one off season about Silvo after waking up from his coma. It could explore how everything changed and who has died and whose in charge. I think it would be brilliant.
I was thinking about how Chrissy could narrate Tony’s rise in the mob while we also see the fallout of the sopranos family through the eyes of Silvo.
Half of the actors died or in retired.... but the only thing david can make is a show about him dreaming
@@ryanzoabi2039 That's why it would be good. Coming out of a coma to find that he's the only one left.
It be funny if when he woke up he goes "I had a dream I was in another town living as a rat, then it ended abruptly"
I loved Silvio, His actor deserved his own show and is criminally underrated.
@@blakerodriguezsrh3672 except you're literally on a video about him being a #1
And Netflix removing Lilyhammer is a perfect example of the problem with streaming and why it is better to get physical copies.
It was a good show. Stevie puts his heart and energy into just about everything he does.
I love Stevie V.Z but the Sopranos references make me, a Sopranos fan, not want to watch this show… just feels tacky? But I may give it a try at some point (off Netflix)
@@curtislumber6938 It's a great series. The references were a sweet tongue in cheek nod.
FUN FACT TO ADD TO THE THEORY:
STEVEN VAN ZANDT was planning to reunite with his former THE SOPRANOS co-star JAMES GANDOLFINI on his new series LILYHAMMER before the actor's death in June (13).
The rocker/actor played Gandolfini's right hand man Silvio Dante on the acclaimed drama series, and was developing a storyline on his popular Netflix show, about an American gangster hiding from his Mafia past in a Norwegian town, so he could work with his pal once again.
In an interview on U.S. breakfast show Big Morning Buzz Live, he explains, "We talked about him (Gandolfini) doing a cameo appearance in the final episode of the second season. I wrote a scene where my character was going through the snow and he comes to a cabin, he opens the cabin door and it was going to be Jimmy in his bathrobe and T-shirt looking like (he did on) The Sopranos, and he was gonna say, 'Frankie the Fixer, you're here too?'
"You know, having some fun with the end of The Sopranos and how it ended in a freaky kinda way, implying that The Sopranos all went to Norway. And then I was going to go into the cabin and (Gandolfini's on screen wife) Edie Falco was going to be there and the kids too."
Van Zandt was also in talks with Sopranos creator David Chase to direct the scene.
The reunion plans ended when Gandolfini suffered a fatal heart attack in Italy.
Interesting tidbit about Silvio's name. In Mario Puzo's 'THe Last Don', there is a character whose mother, when she is pregnant, says she is going to name Silvio, but when he is born, she ends up naming him Dante.
Lillyhammer was a charming little show, with its funny moments. I enjoyed it as a Sopranos fan.
"Just when I thought I was out, they pulled me back in!"
I remember watching LilyHammer without any expectations of it being good and I remember being pleasantly surprised and binge watching it immediately upon watching the first episode. It turned out to be a great show on its own merits. Yes it was sopranos like but it was also it’s own thing with what was to me a fresh and entertaining storyline.
Maybe that’s what I was thinking all this time when Silvio was shot and in a coma. That Lily hammer is a dream show of silvio and the cancelation of the show meant that silvio was pulled the plugged and died
I watched all three seasons. The first two seasons are entertaining and the location/culture of Lilyhammer gives it a unique presentation. Season three felt like they were just throwing twists and turns to see what worked, and suddenly there were too many plot lines and random cameos.
Lilyhammer was a massive hit everywhere in Europe and deservedly so. It was surprisingly well written and hilarious. Van Zandt showed his comical talent and proved he can easily carry a show.
I love the theory that the whole show is Silvio's coma. The plot develops in a stream of consciousness kind of way.
Lillehammer is probably the closest thing to a good sopranos sequel we will ever have.
@@JLKDOOM The balls on this kid....That movie was disgusting and should've never even happened. It was a disgrace to the series
@@ZackZ-mg9uq you've lost your marbles kid. I give the movie at least 8 gabagools
I wish they would have kept going with Lilyhammer. It was so different and totally worked….
Lilyhammer was a great show. Wish it had a few more seasons.
I love the idea of Silvio learning NORWEGIAN out of all the languages in the world to move to an ex-olympic town. Credit where credit is due, the premise of the show was a riot.
Isn’t it obvious? We’re all living in Silvio coma dream, that’s the world where his life is turned into a very popular tv series. The real world is the world of the sopranos, and the reason we have no new episodes of the sopranos is because Silvio is in a coma and doesn’t know what happens next
Go Ahead Kino ..... Why don’t u ILLUMINATE ME!?!?!!
it's kind of funny to think at least Silvio is having fun in his coma
I absolutely LOVE Lillyhammer!!!!!!! Wish they did a 4th season!!!!!!!
I just decided to believe this was some kind of alternative universe or something, it managed to fill an empty space that the Sopranos left, it filled it up with dark comedy and a rather sweet story
It was Little Steven’s speech at the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame that caught David Chase’s attention. At one point he wanted him to play Tony Soprano
Sil was by far one of the best characters on this show and one of my personal favorites. He was absolutely loyal to Tony, even rejecting an offer to be apart of taking the boss out. At one point or another, most of Tony's guys at least thought of taking him out (Furio, Chris, Junior, Richie), switching sides (Paulie), or screwing him over somehow (Ralph, Pussy, Carlo, Eugene). But Sil stood by Tony through thick and thin. I was bummed when New York killed Bobby. But I was actually sad when they managed to hit Silvio. If only he and Patsy had left 1 minute sooner the hitters would have missed them. But that shooting always pissed me off. I always thought Patsy could have driven around the car or threw it into reverse a lot faster, something.
And Silvio would have had at least his bag with the gun inside, on the front seat....if not the gun itself.
@@paulzammataro7185 Good point. Sil knew New York was taking out Jersey captains. You'd think he'd have been ready for anything. He also had to assume he was a target. He was Tony's consigliere. And he was leaving the Bing. New York knew he was always there. A career mobster should have known he had a huge target on his back and had his gun in his hand at all times
Lillehammer is a glorified Sopranos reference!
I think alot of the humor in Lilyhammer is hard for people not Norwegian to understand (?) but it is nice to see so many around the world like it. Many well written parts and good acting, both funny ones and nasty ones .. Trond Fausa is my favourite, so funny. Steven Van Zandt is of course the big poster name here, it is cool just to watch his facial expressions 😅
As an Italian American, I think the same thing about a lot of the humor in the Sopranos. But I do love Lillyhammer, especially seeing some of the same actors from Norsemen in different kinds of roles.
Is it worth watching for a Swede? Or is it distinctly norwegian in its reference and jokes?
I enjoyed lilyhammer back in the day.
Nice job man! I think I' m gonna watch it again one last time! thanks for the heads up!! Actually fell asleep through a few episodes...lol
First of, I really enjoy your videos! The depth of everything you are talking about, and explaining things is perfect.
The show is great and it definitely should not have ended so quickly. And from what we were told here in Norway. The show ended because of a beef between Netflix and NRK.
Another thing. When Tony Sirico joined, there were rumors of more Soprano’s cast joining. Like James Gandolfini and Steven schirripa, it was even a plot developed.
I just found this!!!!!! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 I didn't know I liked Silvio so much until I found myself waiting for seasons 2 & 3 of Lillyhammer 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
Never thought of that, well done on another greatly made video
Just when I thought I was out of sopranos UA-cam vids.. they pull me back in
Lilyhammer really is a great series. Hard to picture the “Sopranos episode” line as a sure fire sign that the series isn’t a dream, though. That would mean Frankie Tagliano looks and acts exactly like Silvio Dante, his brother (who’s a Priest) looks exactly like Paulie Gualtieri and his ex-girlfriend looks and sounds exactly like Gabriella Dante and no one seems to notice or care.
Even in the lillyhammer cover picture you can still see Silvio's resting frown. Legendary
The show was good, it was hard to find it on trekers.
I watched it when it came out, really liked it, has a nice feel to it.
Interesting about the music, didnt know that part.
Thanks for the mate, great job!
I was devastated when Lilyhammer was not renewed for a fourth season but understood why, the first two seasons were fantastic but the third was a bit of a miss unfortunately.
Very excited for your better call saul reviews.
This is a very good analysis
Great video. Never seen lily hammer either but it’s definitely a dream by the actual Silvio Dante. I base this entirely on my own wants and desires.
It makes sense that Lillyhammer is Silvio's coma dream. When they reference "the Sopranos" we must remember it's all a dream where absolutely nothing makes sense 90% of the time.
@@E.C.2 👏👏to add to your comment. it seems most all movies are made to mimic the WAY we dream. Before it was a secret. Now that everything has become “meta,” (self referential) movies are openly saying “hey! This is one big dream.” Common ways of creating a dream like scene are with melodic music 🎼 then, altered cutscenes, where a man will have a gun in his left hand then cut back to the man with the gun in his right. Or a window being closed, then, cut back and it’s open. Day time turning to night then back to daylight, etc.. This happens so much it used to bother me when I noticed it. Especially in childhood favorite films like The Predator, where, the scenes constantly showed the moon 🌙 and stars then BOOM; back to the afternoon 1 minute later!. Lol. It’s interesting to watch movies and see how many continuity breaks you can count. Many times it is on purpose; to make the viewer disoriented and confused or scared or excited , without knowing why. It’s good to remember that 90% of communication is non verbal.

I watched lily hammer a few years ago, I binged all three seasons and loved it. This was before I had watched the sopranos.
Have just started watching lillyhammer OMG it’s brilliant. The setting, the acting, the humour, etc brilliant
Benny Fazio did the same as Silvio did after hitting Phil Leotardo, except he fled to El Rey, Mexico (south of Cancún). With all his earnings and compensation, he owned a hotel and saloon.
The Sopranos + Northern Exposure + any number of Scandinavian detective procedurals = Lilyhammer
i remember i finished the sopranos and then i watched this series, i cant remember well but it was good to watch at least 1 time. and paulie also do a cameo
Love the bread museum you put at the end there classic!
I had never heard of this, but am watching it on Netflix now and loving it.
Lilyhammer was pure gold. I wanted more!
It's a great series, very well done.
This is a hilarious, awesome theory. I'm a big fan of both shows and I had never thought of this.
I’m pretty sure the writers of Lilyhammer aren’t too keen on everybody saying their hard work is just the dream from the character of another show.
Considering the fact they got Steven Van Zandt playing a mob guy and have some of his Sopranos alumni on the show, I would have to assume they were OK with some of those fan theories as themselves were making a spiritual successor to Sopranos through Lilyhammer.
Actually, they'd probably consider it complimentary. The writers are obviously fans of The Sopranos and it's one of the most iconic TV series ever.
Saw the Season, my boy is making things happening Tony would be PROUD
Silvio was my favorite character I didn't know about Lillehammer I have to check it out
Well James & Edie were supposed to appear as Tony and Carmela in S2 finale - you can find these details (including the plan for David Chase to direct) on IMDB.
I've always looked at Lillehammer as a Silv splinter show
A good video & an interesting theory, I really like Lilyhammer & the nod to The Sopranos I got a kick out of it, you can definitely see the influence on the show. BTW they have come to an agreement so it is staying up on Netflix so that's great I would definitely recommend it I just finished watching it yesterday. Enjoy it
Totally.!.!.!.!.! Kino love your stuff
Yea they mention the Sopranos show. But if you watched the sopranos, that show did it all the time. Think of the times Goodfellas is referenced and how many sopranos actors were in goodfellas. Or even Ralph, think of him when A.J. Gives his mom a copy of the Matrix for her birthday, Ralph is Sypher. So even though the Sopranos are mentioned, it could still very well be in the sopranos universe
Love this show I wish they had more.
PLEASE do reviews of Lilyhammer episodes. It was such a good show.
I remember I watched all episodes in 2020 it was a good show I like it sadly it never got more seasons
Just when i thought i was out, they pull me back in.
I LOVED Lilyhammer. Sopranos is my number one but Lilyhammer is top 10 for me. Great plot great acting and always entertaining. I hope they come back for another season I know he had problems
I don't always watch a Kino video, but when it's about anything Soprano's, I watch.
Excellent brake down. I jumped out of my chair when the old man said “it’s just a dream Silvio”. But I think you are right.
one of my fav sopranos theories
Great show and a compelling theory
lilyhammer was good fun . Watched it after i finished the sopranos m it was a good dessert
I need to watch this ASAP
This is so funny I was about to ask you if you would consider covering Lilyhammer. I thought the show was very watchable albeit not stellar. It definitely made me interested in Norway.
I love lillyhammer and the sopranos they both good
Im glad people still talk about the Lilyhammer show. Silvio could carry the show on his own and it surprised me
I seen Lily years before. Then when watching the Sopranos I had a good laugh.
Lilyhammer is still on Netflix UK and is well worth the watch ,
I always used to think that Lilyhammer was Silvio's coma dream.
It was an absolute brilliant show!!! 👍
I loved Lilyhammer. Good show PK
I have watched every episode of Lillehammer. It’s great and the plot is fascinating. Hope you get to see it sometime.
Short answer yes absolutely especially the scene where they guy literally says it’s all just a Dream Silvio
Lilhammer was well crafted to get the Soprano's fans to buy in on the premise, adding little nods here and there, absolutely perfection in doing so. Anymore you can't have a show without Easter eggs, hidden meanings and call backs to other shows. The fourth wall is down
I just love the fact that silvio in reality is bruce sprinsteen's E.Street band. How fucking cool is that?
"Ive compiled this from youtube clips and reddit" if only i heard that in the beginning
I tuned out when he brought up that columbum mierda, of course it's a redditcuck
Finally someone talking about lilyhammer! Found the show a year or two ago, loved it! Haven't actually seen the sopranos tho but it's made me want to watch it
Wasn’t there a line in Sopranos where Silvio says that he’s interested in checking out Norway? I vividly remember there being a line where he’s interested in visiting a place like Oslo or Lilyhammer in one of the episodes before or after the coma.
And in Tony’s coma, Tony sold patio furniture. Throughout the show, he mentions that if we wasn’t in the life he was in he would be some idiot selling patio furniture on Route 22.
On a random note, being from NJ native myself, that line was actually a deep cut reference. If you go to Route 22 in NJ, the area is FILLED with furniture stores. Macys galleries, Best Buy, Reymour Flannigan, that one big chandelier store, etc.
It’s still like that today, the only big change is that they added a LIDL 😂
I LOVED THIS SHOW!!! It broke my heart when they didn't renew it.
One more big clue to this theory that strongly backs it. In S3E1 of Lillyhammer, Frank (Stevens character) is at the hospital for being shot but he is not in a coma and shares a room with an old man who's got dementia. Frank is really sick of the hospital and says "Please tell me it's a dream". The old man responds with; "It's all a dream Silvio". He literally says Silvio! Never noticed it until now but this is almost a confirmation
Its possible thats were the show left him but it was never confrimed or denined steven van zan said in interviews the viewers can believe what they like. I personally don't think so its the same actor playing these two characters with the same personality but that the way I veiwed it I love this guy I was really upset thats how it ended for Him his not dead but in coma. I was very happy about lily hammer an really enjoyed the show and was very happy he got a lead role.
Lilyhammer is a nice concept.
It’s a Tv progrum, a moovie
I honestly was surprised I like it as much I did. Wish it kept going
Van Zant said Lilhammer is getting taken off Netflix on the 20th of November, It's a 22nd and I'm currently rewatching it 🙃
I think it’s just a reach. Netflix used Steve purely based on network value to boost viewership as people will associate him to being in a successful show within the same genre. It was a cash grab and they did just enough to draw a connection without getting sued for copywrite
Silvio Dante making a cameo in a World of Warcraft commercial is the most early 00's thing imaginable. Just slap in a pop punk soundtrack, and we're going on a ride down Nostalgia Lane.
Nah use the rap metal mix soundtrack like limp Bizkit to really make it the epitome of the 2000s

A few of the cast members were featured in a bunch of cringey commercials during that time. Most of them were foreign commercials, but some were American. Idk why I don’t actually remember seeing them on TV, but there is a video on UA-cam of all of the commercials that sopranos characters did. It’s mostly just Sil and Paulie, too.
