Lee So Yeon is such a remarkable actress in this series portraying the role of Jang Ok-Jung. Such a great actress she deserve an award here. Two thumbs up.
이소연이 이렇게 연기를 잘했었나.. 놀래서 댓글달음ㅎㅎ 역사 속에서 튀어나온 것처럼 우아하면서도 리얼하네.. 그나저나 지금까지 장희빈 주제로한 사극이 많았는데 거의 모든 작품에서 인현왕후, 숙빈을 미화하고 장옥정을 무조건적인 악역으로 표현했다는 게 놀라움. 실제로는 인현왕후나 숙빈에 대한 안 좋은 기록들도 있고 그 시절 궁궐에서 살아남으려면 보통 선하기만 한 멘탈로는 살아남을 수 없었다는 게 사실일 것 같은데.. 특히 왕과 서인 남인이 여인들을 정치에 이용했던 이 때에 누가 더 착했고 나빴는지 따지는 건 의미가 없는 것 같음. 동이에서는 숙빈이 엄청나게 미화되고 숙종도 어리버리 푼수처럼 나와서 보면서 좀 짜증나는데 그나마 장희빈은 적절하게 표현된 것 같다..
Yes machan. This is one of the best teledramas I have ever seen in my life ❤. Miss these Actors and actresses. Specially Jewel in the palace is also a great teledrama. National Rupavahini is always give the best in the past.
Crazy as it may seem I actually liked this queen more than Dong Yi. Despite her faults, she’s portrayed as the bad one in this series but I saw through her insecurities and she just loved the king above all. One of my favorite series of all time.
It might sound odd, but this is actually my favourite scene in the whole show. Lee so yeon's acting is so powerful here that turned this into an unforgettable scene

The director or whoever behind Dong Yi's casting did a great job on choosing his/her actors. As you can see they really did a great job portraying their characters all of them got an unforgettable characters because of their acting. They really live up with the characters that are given to them. Jang Ok Jung's/ Lee Hyeon acting is really commendable and admirable on how she portrayed her character. Queen In Hyun/Park Ha Seon is the most suitable character for that Queen title. Her acting was so natural and looks really kind and elegant. As what the Queen In Hyun should be. Choi Suk Bin, Dong Yi/Han Yoo Joo is great at her acting too. Her lovely persona and natural clever side really give justice to the character of Dong Yi. And Yoo Joo really fits the role of Dong Yi and I cant imagine anyone who can portray it like Han Yoo Joo did. All the characters here in Dong Yi is commendable and unforgettable. For me they really portray their character so well that you can't actually forget what their role is. They really give justice to every character given to them. Like the King, Chun Sun and Lee Kwang Soo's role as well as the man who stand as Dong Yi's father in the Music of Beareu. And many more 👏
My favourite historical korean drama. I always re-watch it, and it gets better each time. I only watched Jang Ok Jung because I know evil was not evil, just surrounded with evil people who poisoned her mind.

다온 자세하게 숙종의 정비는 *인경왕후* 였구여 인경왕후가 공주 2명을 낳고 혼인 10년만에 돌아가시자 그다음에 맞은 제 1계비가 *인현왕후* 입니다.그 다음이..아주 자세하게 알려드리면 중간에 인현왕후가 폐비가 되고 장희빈(희빈장씨)가 잠시 중전이 되었다가 인현왕후가 복권됩니다. 하지만,인현왕후도 오래살지못하십니다.그 후로 맞은 계비가 *인원왕후* 입니다. 정비 인경왕후,1계비 인현왕후,2계비 인원왕후 입니다.
사약은 한잔으로 죽는사람이 거의 없었으며 피를 토하는 경우도 거의 없었다고 기록되어 있습니다. 사약으로 사사하는 방법은 다음과 같습니다. 사약을 먹인 후에 뜨거운 온돌방에 사람을 가둡니다. 뜨거울수록 사약이 더욱 잘들기 때문이죠. 또한 독이 잘 돌게 하기 위해 계속 움직이도록 지시했습니다. 이럼에도 불구하고 체질상으로 죽지 않는 사람이 존재했습니다.
I find Jang Ok Jung to be a tragic character who could have had a better fate had she made the right choices and be a good person like she was back then. In the beginning we could see that she was a kind and righteous person. Ironically, she was the one who realized Dong Yi's talents and helped her a lot during her time as a servant and an inspector in the Royal Palace. But ultimately, it was the wrong doings of her brother and mother who wanted her to be the queen no matter the cost, and her rising greed for power and the King's love, which led her to make the wrong decisions she did and made her the evil person she was afterwards. Personally, I think Jang Ok Jung is like another version of Dong Yi, who got surrounded by power-lusting people, which eventually led to her corruption. In the end, she got the right punishment for her crimes. But I cannot help but feeling really sad whenever I watch this scene :( Because you saw the good person she was back then and things could have been better had she made the right choices. This scene is one of the, if not, the saddest moment in the show to me :( It's sad how power and hatred can corrupt a person like that. I hope she found peace and happiness in the afterlife.
There have been several dramas that tell about Jang Okjung's point of view, but for myself, i really like Okjung's character in this drama even though she is an antagonist. At least they didn't justify the crimes that have been committed by her. I know Jang Ok Jung became evil because of the influence from her family, but it also because of the choices she made to herself, including the hatred and jealousy she has in her heart. Although this drama is indeed from Sookbin's point of view as the main character, but I'm sure in real life, Sookbin Choi herself must have a good heart and positives energy around her. Both of Han Hyojoo and Lee Soyeon potrayed their characters so well❤️

One of the most simplest comparisons to Jang Okjung is Anne Boleyn. Both women captivated the heart of a king and shook a nation. Obviously there are big differences politically and socioeconomically. But no one can doubt that both women had a tremendous strength of character. The DongYi drama made Jang Okjung’s crimes even greater than the original crime of “witchcraft”. Who knows what the true story is? Was she an evil criminal? Was she the scapegoat of the Southern Faction? Or was she simply a victim of a king who just wanted to get rid of her in the easiest way a king gets rid of people by execution? To this day she still seems to charm and captivate us. Despite the additional crimes she was charged with in the DongYi drama, I still think they were very fair portraying her as an ambitious smart and alluring woman who was also juggling the pressures of her faction and her family, but had a lot of potential to love and be loved.

I was probably around 6 at the time I watch dong yi with my family, and i remember shouting 'don't drink that!!!' and hope that the king would swoop in last minute and told her to stop. That was the first time i cried over the antagonist
All three women love the King. They do it differently, three kinds of love. Dong Yi is the main character, so her love is most focused. Here we see Ok Jung's love and cry for her, but In Hyun's love is never noticed. She is his first wife and he respects her, somehow loves her but it's not deep. She watches him being crazy in love with Ok Jung then Dong Yi, but she never does something to harm them, always wants the best things for the King and the whole country. That's how an empress loves. In Hyun: empress Ok Jung: favorite wife Dong Yi: queen They all love him in their way, due to their characters and positions.

Prince Yun of Heebin become King and Prince Yeoning of Sukbin became his Crown Prince Brother since he can’t have a child as heir, he only reign for 3 years.
드라마상에서 도사가 운명얘기만 안했어도..빛이 될 수 없고 누군가의 그림자로 살 운명이라 해서 더욱 더 권세에 집착하고 그 예언에 휩쓸릴수밖에 없었음 천출에 아둥바둥 대감들이랑 손잡아서 숙원자리까지 올랐는데 빛의 운명인 동이의 등장이라ㅠ 속이 썩어 들어갔을듯, 처음부터 악한 사람도 아니여서 그 예언에 자신을 더 올가매고 끌려다닌거; 갠적으로 제일 좋아하는 대사는 아마 천출이여도 넘 볼 수 없는 자리, 가질 수 없는 것 을 열망하라는것..승은상궁일적 무수리이던 동이한테 해준말들 모두 좋음ㅠ
아마 둘이 궁에 들어오지 않고 둘다 중인의 신분으로 바깥 저잣거리에서 만나 동무로 만났다면 지금처럼 권세가들 싸움에 휘말리지 않고 오랫동안 맘편하게 잘 살지 않았을까 빛에겐 그림자가 되어주고 그림자에겐 빛이 되어주며 동이 1화에서 처럼 약과 훔쳐 먹으면서 결말이 나지않았을까ㅠ

In the end, all she has done is her love for the King. :( One of the things that made this drama so good is it has a sense of balance in character building. Consort Jang was portrayed not as pure evil. What she had done were for the king, for her family and ultimately, for her son. However she made the wrong choices with what actions to take, something that is highly inescapable in the dirty but subtle and deadly world of the Inner court. Love this drama so much!!!! P.S.: That's one hell of a strong poison there. Made me remember Game of Thrones' Purple Wedding.
Her son became king but only for 2 years. Suk bins son was king for over 52 yrs. The good live long lives, and the evil live short ones. Heavens supported suk bin son as he was a great king yongjo.

Gyeongjong died mysteriously after eating the food youngjo brought. After Gyeongjong died the made the law not to feed marinated crabs and fruits together to the king. Youngjo did not like his mother so he moved her almost outside of the palace then never visited her. She died alone after living a long life alone because literally no one visited her. A lot of historians now said Jang heibin was not evil. She was killed because of the political reason. That's it. Sukjong was very cold and didn't really care for women's feelings towards to him. He changed the law to not to have concubines as Queen. However, Many believe that his true love was Jang heibin not Choi sukbin. Jang heibin became mean because the queen consort and Sukbin kept tormenting her and there is a few records in historical book that queen beat Jang heibin with a whip because Queen was jealous that she was getting a lot of attention from the King. This drama is fabricated so much that it made me feel little uneasy that people think this is true.
i didnt know how many times my anger burst out because of Jang Ok Jung/Jang Hee Bin’s actions, i still cry and feel sorry for her fate, we all know her mistakes was so cruel and cant be apologized but at some point i pity her. this is the most heartbreaking scene after the scene where Dong Yi lost his first son and had to go out of the palace. damn. 😭😭😭
Yeah I don’t condone murders of innocent people, yet I also think what she felt was valid. It’s cruel the times they lived through, where the wife is expected to be loyal to the husband but the husband can have as many wives and concubines as they want. I do believe that she loved him and it’s a shame she resorted to these methods.
As much as I hate what she did, I can't help feeling sorry for her. Like she says, " I wanted all of you, knowing it is wrong, BUT ALL OF YOU." And the thing is, after this fiasco between Okjung and Queen Inhyun, the King passed a law saying no concubine can become Queen.
Yeah, I guess it did. :) But the real tragedy with Hee Bin is that she did not know what the REAL power would be. When her son became King, she would have become the BIRTH MOTHER of the King. What could be more powerful than that? True, Queen Inhyun would have become the Queen Mother, but in a culture where filial piety was an absolute, being the birth mother of the King would have meant enjoying all the honor and power that one could have, even more than Queen Inhyun. It is tragic that she didn't realize this, and died leaving an ever lasting grief in her son's heart. What a tragedy!

I was just hoping that before her execution, she would have a closure with DongYi because their relationship at the start was one of the most sincere relationship I've shown in the drama. I always go back to the episodes that they're still okay.
Im not a kdrama fan but i watched this as it was dubbed & aired in my country & this is my ultimate favourite, the actress who plays okjung is amazing.Specially her acting in this episode is beyond words. For this drama i watched Jang okjung other drama as well but didnt like it since it was making choi sukbin's character evil & justifying okjung's character more inspite how evil she was. I don't think dongyi has been evil in history if so she wouldnt have had children with king & her son wouldnt have ended up being king. So I love this drama most.
I was a child when I first watched this, and I cried at this scene and told my mom: Mom, why am I crying? I hate her, I shouldn't care. And she didn't say anything except: Never hate anyone. Hatred makes you dark. To this day, I don't know why I cry every single time, but I learned to never hate anyone.
My god, I was crying so much through this scene. 😭😭 I loved her so much before. It was her brother's fault for making her go down this bad path. She could've been good if she wanted. 🤧💔

장희빈 사약, 그 전의 강제로마시는 장희빈 사약과는 다르게 스스로 마시는사약 숙종도 그 전의 노려보는 숙종과는 다르게 장희빈과의 예전의 추억을 떠올리며 눈물흘림
실제 조선왕조실록에선 장희빈이 사약 던지고 패악질했다는 기록은 없습니다. 오히려 인현왕후가 투기를 했다고 실록에선 나온다네요. 장희빈의 악행의 기록은 인현왕후지지자들의 기록에나 있죠.
이 드라마가 의도치않게 최대한 역사에 가깝게 장희빈을 묘사한것 같네요.
희빈 진짜 불쌍하다 왕위 계승자 까지 낳고 혼인까지 하고 진심으로 사랑했고 숙종도 희빈에게 전각까지 지어줄 정도로 사랑했는데 중전이 다시 들어오고 숙빈이 들어오니 원망하겠지 당연히
그래도 나쁜짓 안했으면 계속 사랑도 받고 인현황후랑 숙빈최씨랑 잘 살았겠죠.

걍 전대미문의 돈벌레요. 장희재가 외숙모 봉영을 통해 회임한 자신을 두차례 독살하려 했다고 위증해 왕비 장씨를 끌어내리고 인현왕후가 복위토록 도왔던건 인현왕후가 경북 김천사에 머물며 전국 노론과 공주들에게서 모은 복위자금을 뇌물로 먹었기 때문. 숙종에게 전례를 찾을 수 없을 지경으로 은전을 받아챙긴 걸로 부족해 이걸 불릴 작정으로 영지 인근 백성들이 개간한 땅을 싹 다 빼앗고, 다중 납세 강요 + 강제 무상 노역 등 해당 지역 관리들이 참다 못해 목숨 걸고 제발 좀 작작하라 탄원서를 올릴 정도로 골수까지 쪽쪽 빨다 못해 종국엔 부동산 사기까지 쳐대서 현역 후궁 주제에 고소까지 당했던 진짜 입지적인 레전더리 후궁이었습니다. 동이.. 참 가짢아서...

I find Jang Ok Jung to be a tragic character who could have had a better fate had she made the right choices and be a good person like she was back then.
In the beginning we could see that she was a kind and righteous person. Ironically, she was the one who realized Dong Yi's talents and helped her a lot during her time as a servant and an inspector in the Royal Palace.
But ultimately, it was the wrong doings of her brother and mother who wanted her to be the queen no matter the cost, and her rising greed for power and the King's love, which led her to make the wrong decisions she did and made her the evil person she was afterwards. Personally, I think Jang Ok Jung is like another version of Dong Yi, who got surrounded by power-lusting people, which eventually led to her corruption.
In the end, she got the right punishment for her crimes. But I cannot help but feeling really sad whenever I watch this scene :( Because you saw the good person she was back then and things could have been better had she made the right choices. This scene is one of the, if not, the saddest moment in the show to me :(
It's sad how power and hatred can corrupt a person like that. I hope she found peace and happiness in the afterlife.

何回見ても飽きません
There have been several dramas that tell about Jang Okjung's point of view, but for myself, i really like Okjung's character in this drama even though she is an antagonist. At least they didn't justify the crimes that have been committed by her. I know Jang Ok Jung became evil because of the influence from her family, but it also because of the choices she made to herself, including the hatred and jealousy she has in her heart. Although this drama is indeed from Sookbin's point of view as the main character, but I'm sure in real life, Sookbin Choi herself must have a good heart and positives energy around her. Both of Han Hyojoo and Lee Soyeon potrayed their characters so well❤️

이때 사약신 연출이 참신했던게 원래 이 드라마 전의 장희빈의 최후는 억지로 사약을 들이마시고 마지막까지 악다구니를 퍼붓는 식으로 전부 마무리지었는데 동이에서 처음으로! 장희빈 최후를 스스로 사약을 깔삼하게 마시는 모습으로 연출했음

One of the most simplest comparisons to Jang Okjung is Anne Boleyn. Both women captivated the heart of a king and shook a nation. Obviously there are big differences politically and socioeconomically. But no one can doubt that both women had a tremendous strength of character. The DongYi drama made Jang Okjung’s crimes even greater than the original crime of “witchcraft”. Who knows what the true story is? Was she an evil criminal? Was she the scapegoat of the Southern Faction? Or was she simply a victim of a king who just wanted to get rid of her in the easiest way a king gets rid of people by execution? To this day she still seems to charm and captivate us. Despite the additional crimes she was charged with in the DongYi drama, I still think they were very fair portraying her as an ambitious smart and alluring woman who was also juggling the pressures of her faction and her family, but had a lot of potential to love and be loved.
And Dong Yi is Jane Seymour,the assumed meek and gentle wife because there were no additional records in history to prove their true characters

I was probably around 6 at the time I watch dong yi with my family, and i remember shouting 'don't drink that!!!' and hope that the king would swoop in last minute and told her to stop. That was the first time i cried over the antagonist
All three women love the King. They do it differently, three kinds of love. Dong Yi is the main character, so her love is most focused. Here we see Ok Jung's love and cry for her, but In Hyun's love is never noticed. She is his first wife and he respects her, somehow loves her but it's not deep. She watches him being crazy in love with Ok Jung then Dong Yi, but she never does something to harm them, always wants the best things for the King and the whole country. That's how an empress loves.

드라마상에서 도사가 운명얘기만 안했어도..빛이 될 수 없고 누군가의 그림자로 살 운명이라 해서 더욱 더 권세에 집착하고 그 예언에 휩쓸릴수밖에 없었음 천출에 아둥바둥 대감들이랑 손잡아서 숙원자리까지 올랐는데 빛의 운명인 동이의 등장이라ㅠ 속이 썩어 들어갔을듯, 처음부터 악한 사람도 아니여서 그 예언에 자신을 더 올가매고 끌려다닌거; 갠적으로 제일 좋아하는 대사는 아마 천출이여도 넘 볼 수 없는 자리, 가질 수 없는 것 을 열망하라는것..승은상궁일적 무수리이던 동이한테 해준말들 모두 좋음ㅠ
아마 둘이 궁에 들어오지 않고 둘다 중인의 신분으로 바깥 저잣거리에서 만나 동무로 만났다면 지금처럼 권세가들 싸움에 휘말리지 않고 오랫동안 맘편하게 잘 살지 않았을까 빛에겐 그림자가 되어주고 그림자에겐 빛이 되어주며 동이 1화에서 처럼 약과 훔쳐 먹으면서 결말이 나지않았을까ㅠ

In the end, all she has done is her love for the King. :( One of the things that made this drama so good is it has a sense of balance in character building. Consort Jang was portrayed not as pure evil. What she had done were for the king, for her family and ultimately, for her son. However she made the wrong choices with what actions to take, something that is highly inescapable in the dirty but subtle and deadly world of the Inner court.

Gyeongjong died mysteriously after eating the food youngjo brought. After Gyeongjong died the made the law not to feed marinated crabs and fruits together to the king. Youngjo did not like his mother so he moved her almost outside of the palace then never visited her. She died alone after living a long life alone because literally no one visited her. A lot of historians now said Jang heibin was not evil. She was killed because of the political reason. That's it. Sukjong was very cold and didn't really care for women's feelings towards to him. He changed the law to not to have concubines as Queen. However, Many believe that his true love was Jang heibin not Choi sukbin. Jang heibin became mean because the queen consort and Sukbin kept tormenting her and there is a few records in historical book that queen beat Jang heibin with a whip because Queen was jealous that she was getting a lot of attention from the King. This drama is fabricated so much that it made me feel little uneasy that people think this is true.

i didnt know how many times my anger burst out because of Jang Ok Jung/Jang Hee Bin’s actions, i still cry and feel sorry for her fate, we all know her mistakes was so cruel and cant be apologized but at some point i pity her. this is the most heartbreaking scene after the scene where Dong Yi lost his first son and had to go out of the palace. damn. 😭😭😭
Yeah I don’t condone murders of innocent people, yet I also think what she felt was valid. It’s cruel the times they lived through, where the wife is expected to be loyal to the husband but the husband can have as many wives and concubines as they want. I do believe that she loved him and it’s a shame she resorted to these methods.

As much as I hate what she did, I can't help feeling sorry for her. Like she says, " I wanted all of you, knowing it is wrong, BUT ALL OF YOU." And the thing is, after this fiasco between Okjung and Queen Inhyun, the King passed a law saying no concubine can become Queen.
and that law probably saved the lives of so many concubines after that .. lol
Yeah, I guess it did. :) But the real tragedy with Hee Bin is that she did not know what the REAL power would be. When her son became King, she would have become the BIRTH MOTHER of the King. What could be more powerful than that? True, Queen Inhyun would have become the Queen Mother, but in a culture where filial piety was an absolute, being the birth mother of the King would have meant enjoying all the honor and power that one could have, even more than Queen Inhyun. It is tragic that she didn't realize this, and died leaving an ever lasting grief in her son's heart. What a tragedy!

I was just hoping that before her execution, she would have a closure with DongYi because their relationship at the start was one of the most sincere relationship I've shown in the drama. I always go back to the episodes that they're still okay.

Im not a kdrama fan but i watched this as it was dubbed & aired in my country & this is my ultimate favourite, the actress who plays okjung is amazing.Specially her acting in this episode is beyond words. For this drama i watched Jang okjung other drama as well but didnt like it since it was making choi sukbin's character evil & justifying okjung's character more inspite how evil she was. I don't think dongyi has been evil in history if so she wouldnt have had children with king & her son wouldnt have ended up being king. So I love this drama most.
