- This week me and David were camping at Loch Long, during Storm Kathleen. Gale forces winds, but were "protected" by trees and there was some rain, but it didn't penetrate through our defences. A stormy ish camp, but a stroll for us veterans.

We headed down to Loch Long near Arrochar for a wild camp. The forecast was for wind gusts up to 50mph as there was a storm coming in from Atlantic called Storm Kathleen. Thankfully we were camping in amongst the trees and not much rain came through and we were sheltered from the wind. I was testing out my new Crua Hybrid tent whilst David had his Alpkit Tarpstar out with him. Some gusts made it through and the tents coped well.

Great campsite. Love that sea loch view. New tent is neat but yep too claustophobic for it myself. I admit I dId need to look up Derby days lol Texas Granny may be ancient but still like to learn lol. I like the firepit and David's tent looks comfy but I would worry in that wind. Look forward to more camps. Thank you for sharing!
Derby days in Glasgow means "Celtic vs Rangers". Two football (soccer) clubs with an intense rivalry. I'm a Celtic fan 🥰.

Ive always wanted to go to Scotland it even looks beautiful in the bad weather. I have serious health issues so I don't think that I will b able to get to see Scotland myself. So many thanks for sharing this vid guys brilliant stuff 👍

i love that tent, its very cosy, i think it would be good for just the odd night here and there, but you could not use it if camping for a few days, its would do you head in trying to change or cook etc day after day
100% agree. It gives off a very cozy vibe, it's quite low profile, nice design, and should be fine in the wind, but it's a one nighter. Would be fun to be trapped in during the rain.
The Hybrid design is excellent if you like hammocking.

Tarp and firepit for the win! Also bought a proper pee bottle, game changer when needing a widdle during the night and cant be bothered getting out the tent! Was thinking could do a competition to hear the craziest camping stories...folk could send in some! Tunes wise - Global underground series late nineties was amazing.
Shagger! Aye, it's the same wan as yer pals. Absolute gamechanger and kinder to the environment. I do not want a pee bottle lol. I have no issues getting in and out when nature calls. A competition of crazy camping stories? Me doing a number 2 in a vestibule is up there lol

Aye? 2.5kg is perfectly fine to carry. My MTN F10 is 3.4kg... and it's multi purpose too, so you can either hammock or bivvy. I plan on using it throughout summer.
Yeah, I've ballooned to 116kg and I've decided to change my diet for health reasons. I wasn't really getting protein elsewhere and protein helps with being full.
@@MontyOutdoors welcome to heroic stature! My hooped bivvy (Alpkit Elan) is 900g. Hammock about the same. Don't suppose it matters for short hikes but I'd rather not carry the extra. That's a couple of beers!

Hi Monty. Is the sleeping area a good enough size in the tarpstar 1? It looks the business.
For 1 person it looked fine. David loves it. There's a 2 person inner too, but you sacrifice the vestibule
Went out in it myself Monty... my phone decided not to work ... so I hardly got to record any and what I did record was loud... I have the same fire stove as you.. not many places I can use it in my area... Take care out there. Ps like the hair cut.. since I went grey I buzz mine myself.

@@MontyOutdoors went to a local Neolithic hill fort. Have posted my terrible effort... does that alpkit have bad condensation problems??? Have considered getting one but worried about the condensation... am waiting for my vern 1 to arrive. It comes at the end of April beginning of may.. so probably won't be able to test it properly till winter... no such thing as "hard trance" .. the match was a good one. Without telling you who I support ( 21 seconds ).. Take care out there.

I've had the same fire pit for 4 years, It folds flat and fits into the base. Also very good as a barbecue. Highly recommend it.

Good to see you back! Your pals tent is cracking. Stop showing me tents! I've been really good this last couple of years, only having a couple of smaller tents and one big one for me and Spike and / or my niece now she likes camping 😅. I was the same in my bivvy. I really loved it, the one you got too, but started waking up in a mad panic in the pitch black, too claustrophobic. Tried and tried but it happened more often so stopped using it. Your tentnlooks good too 👍

@MontyOutdoors aye I can get claustrophobic but never thought twice about the bivvy, and I'm not scared of the dark or anything, but everytime indid wake in a panic, it was pitch black and me fumbling for the zip, soon as I opened it and got a bit air I was fine, yet my bobcat tent is tiny and I use that all the time and have done for years, although it's higher up than a bivvy. But worth seeing how you feel again in the tent then maybe try a different one and see if you still wake in a panic. I have a few sleep issues even at home, but was definitely the bivvy I woke up proper panicking and wanting out.
That's good you've got your camping mojo back, and definitely will give you a shout, we've mainly been up at Spike's bosses place doing work where he's building his house, over the winter, so I sometimes bugger off with the tent, or just been having wee local ones in between work as I don't think we've been full staffed since before Christmas 😂👍🏕
