Mamady is one of the very few masters of the djembe on the planet. Spent an entire weekend studying with this amazing man about 5 years ago. That's his wife, Monette Marino, on dun duns. One of the best drummers on the planet herself! Found this incredible video almost by mistake. Great to see them in action!
j'ai été le voir en concert a Strasbourg en 1999, franchement pour moi c'est un exemple, il fait le tour du monde avec un tel savoir faire et transmettre cette passion. Nice et merci à vous. C'est un reve de savoir jouer comme cela.
Djembe kan is what is called a djembe solo with no other instruments. Kan means sound. The rhythm they play together when Monette comes in is called Zaouli. It acompanies a mask dance by the same name from Ivory Coast

This literally has everything I could ever hope to see in a solo and so much more...speechless!
I love his use of dynamics and very subtle ornamentation - beautiful solo!
