I've never understood how it works...how is it that sound alone can be evocative of something as specific experience wise as CITY LIFE? Wonders of universe.
Zeithri Well yes, but that's a bit like saying red apples are delicious looking because their red. My question is, why does this exist at all? How is it that sound, in any arrangement, can bring to mind such an era, such a place? Even apart from how it sounds, apart from "like 90's anime and cyberpunk", totally on it's OWN, it SOUNDS...LIKE a city! if you ask people who've never even heard of cyberpunk, I bet more than a few would say "a city" or something akin to it. I find that concept mind blowing.
I love the vibe myself. First of all the synths are very late 80s early 90s where urban life and future tech was at a pop culture high so you might have an association to cyber punk because it got its start in that era even if you didn't know the name. The saxophone is a jazz instrument that is regularly pared with the city, Saturday Night Live has done that with their intro for decades keeping it in the zeitgeist of our culture. and lastly there is the sample of what sounds like a crowd of people filling out the ambiance. This is one of my favorite motifs in music, great for night drives!
+Ivan Mattos : I myself would say it's because pop funk, like all of pop music is inherently urban. It's also fundamentally tied with other aspects of consumerism like mass TV.

G. Ceara take off your nostalgia glasses. It was terrible when it came out I remember because I had it. Blatant Blade Runner rip off with a predictable story. Kojima has and always will be a con artist thieving hack.
Rau Caine Sort of? I mean he invented the stealth gaming genre from the ground up and molded it as it evolved like a wizard and all with relatively tiny amounts of inspiration. Snatcher was a total bladerunner rip off though and it can only be recommended to hardcore Kojima fans and people who don't like the way Hideo just can't shut up when he has something to say will fucking hate his games because he hadn't had an editor that was even half as aggressive as needed in years and I admit as a fan that the only kind of people who can genuinely like his games all and all are people willing to listen to or read through hours of filler total in every game for the the other half being taken up by cool stuff. Basically if you can't take a game being basically a 50 50 split between hair tearing boredom and jaw droppingly cool setpieces and storytelling then kojima is not for you.
He didn't make the art, the art is cool in this game. He didn't make the music, the music is cool in this game. He didn't make the plot, the plot is cool in this game like it was in Bladerunner. He made the game itself though and thought the idiotic puzzles, the constant illogical guessing, the repetitive and uninteresting way you investigate or do anything were good. This is not a good game, but it has cool things in it. That's Kojima in a nutshell, and for a large majority of his games the things he didn't make himself are what make the game stand out because his writing sure as shit ain't good. Hell, he basically stole Metal Gear to begin with and got lucky enough that it got big and he got budgets to play out his obscenely pretentious artistic vision on. Fuck off, Kojima can fuck himself.
I have to play this game every year now in December before X'mas. Wonderful feeling! I remember i bought this game last year for about $250. A very steep price for a game i knew i would love to the fullest! :D
I recentrly start playing this game throught an emulator, I love the cyberpunk/film noir atmosphere. Detective's story placed in a dark future, nothing beat this tandem! Kojima it's a amazing story teller. I demand an ANIME or HD remake, preserving the same control mechanic and character desing, the 90's anime was the best!

Snatcher was a mistake to be only released on Sega CD to contain the best version with best English cast and best OST; a game that needs a port on Steam and remaster in 2020 onward.
I guess great minds think alike! I just started playing the Sega CD version of this yesterday and thought to myself, "This needs to be an anime, or just have an HD remake!"

This blows you mind so hard that you really do need an extra three minutes of silence to reflect on what you just heard.

The sounds evoke that very stereotypical look of 90's anime and cyberpunk fiction - and the 80's.
In other words, it's all awesome.

What a game! What a soundtrack! Great memories!
emblematic theme. And this version of the game is still worth playing today.

am i the only one who head bangs to this song due to the awesomeness of the drums?!
I'm partial to the sax myself, damn it's so good!
Nah man, I do it too.
This gets better every time I hear it.
I like it.this sax kind of thing makes me really fun.
Man late 80's and 90's japan loved their saxophone ;p Sax makes everything better.
Back Then Everything looked so Harrison Ford or Action Heroic Style. Gotta Love it! That Box Art and an In-game Weapon are a Nod at Blade Runner
Snatcher jams are best jams.
This is best Snatcher jam.
I just pre-ordered the vinyl of this coming out in March. I'm excited as fuck.

I love listening to the track, it's so good and amazing!! An applause to Hideo Kojima for his game and it's like it's an actual night in a city.

Awesome sax solo!
@Karekristensson Definitely, There is also a huge Blade Runner and Terminator theme in this game.
Thats crazy I remember this song from a Doom WAD, I need to see if I can find it again.
The track ends at 3:05. No idea why it lasts for twice as that.
Better than cyberpunk 2077.
Also Gillians stance on the cover is very James Bond. Kojima being a huge movie fan loves putting film influences in games.
Why does it stop at 3:06 but the film continues?
