Thank you for taking the time to film this. I have a Dahon SUV D6. It is an old one. I have taken everything apart and cleaned/replaced/greased where necessary. However, I was unsure how to do the steering head. Thanks to your video, I will attempt it tomorrow. The steering head and stem are of a slightly different design, but I am sure your video will be of great help. Yours is the ONLY video I could find on UA-cam of a Dahon steering head being taken apart.
Thanks so much for dropping by and I am glad the video was able to provide you with some info. Regarding SUV D6, unfortunately, I am not familiar whether it uses a threaded fork or not, and so disassembly of the stem will be different. However, headset disassembly and installation should be similar and tools used will still be the same, provided that you are able to acquire the correct size for the headset :) Happy building and ride safe 😁
Thanks for that - I tried to adjust and equalize but somehow my editting software gave me the wrong impression of the audio volumes. Anyway, I managed to figure it out and should not be a problem in the next tutorials in the future 😁
I really appreciate the spoon-feed like tutorial you made. The video editing also looks good for a new content creator. Hope to see more of your videos related to folding bike. 🦵💪
Thanks much for visiting, bro 🥰 Will do my best to make more upgrade vids. Sayang nga e, dami ko na na-upgrade sa Route ko, last year kasi di pa ko gumagawa ng UA-cam vids at that time 😅
Thanks for dropping by. Unfortunately I can no longer find the tools link as the item is no longer being sold by the seller I bought it from but you should be able to still get the tools from Ali Express or Lazada/Shopee. Here is the link for the headset: shopee.ph/product/68712822/7443016098?smtt=0.57140580-1622951305.9
Your videos and guidance are amazing... But please please, turn the music volume down. We want to hear what your are saying. The music is amazing,... I stopped to look at the video a few times before to watch it just because the music were too much.
Buds, good day. What if threaded pa ang headset? I want to change my handlepost but dont know what to look out for the right parts, also wanted to change to sealed bearings. Thanks buds.
Hey bro - I think litepro has some adapters or headsets for threaded forks as well. Litepro also make parts for some Brompton models (threaded forks) and that includes headsets too. I am including the link below for the specific headset that looks like it but you will need to consult Litepro Cyclery about this. It might still work as threaded forks just need a head nut instead of a cap to tighten it to the headset. shopee.ph/product/68712822/3444485935?smtt=0.57140580-1623117418.9
Thank you for your detailed demonstration.I consider doing the same on my Tern. By the way, can you give me some Information about the Litepro wheelrims? Are they lighter ,more rigid and of better quality?Which size? I would appreciate your answer. W.b.r. Helge
Hello, Helge, thanks for dropping by and I am glad you found my video helpful :) Regarding the Litepro rims, I won't be able to testify any proof that any Litepro rim will be better than your stock wheel rims. I personally upgraded my Dahon Route's Aluminum Alloy Rims altogether to the Litepro S42 wheelset (rims, hubs, rim tape and spokes). The S42 is aero type rim and so it has wider rim walls compared to other rims that Litepro may have (e.g. KFun, Elite, etc). Of course since the S42 has wider rim walls, it is heavier than the other wheels by Litepro but I chose it as it has a good number of spokes and of course it will be much more rigid. Most, if not all the Litepro rims are made out of aluminum alloy and so it should not be too special compared to others but if you can get authentic Litepro rims, I can recommend switching over to them as I found them to be well made and better than my stock Dahon rims. My fellow folding bike cyclists usually just buy Litepro hubs (to accommodate more gears) and just use their stock rims but I opted to get the whole wheelset instead so I won't have to have the wheels assembled and trued. Now regarding the size, folding bikes usually are minivelo sized, so for my case my Dahon Route's wheels are 20 inchers (ERTRO 406). You can switch to an ERTRO 451 wheelset just as long as your frame can support such size. I hope this helps you on your upgrading quest - feel free to drop more questions and I will try to answer them the best I can :)
I am new to building folding bikes but decided I want to have the better components & customization over simply buying an off the shelf bike. From what I can tell I can get a much nicer finished product by installing my own components over stock factory components. Can you please tell me do 451 wheel sets usually require the slightly larger frame size over 406 or do they fit the 406 frames? Thank you.
As far as I can tell, your choice of wheel size will not have a compatibility issue with your frame. 406 and 451 are are both within the '20ish' inch category. While I haven't done so personally, I have seen owners switch 406 with 451 wheels or vice versa and the only reason they do so is that one is easier to source than the other one. Though I would highly suggest to better check out dimensions first as not all folding bike frames are designed to be that 'flexible'. There may be folding bike designs which may only give room for a 406 and not a 451.
@@GeNGiMPlanet Thank you for your reply. I am considering the FN Hon Blast which seems to offer both wheel sizes but I am not sure if they are the same frame or one is larger. The reason I want to go to 451 is to have a little larger wheel under me as I am 175 cm & 100 kgs.
Glad I could help. I saw the Blast and it is basically the same form as the Dahon Launch D8. I believe you should not have jssues switching it into a 451 as it should have clearance for it.
Mine is currently 1x11. I think you can buy a mount for a front derailleur from Litepro but I haven't checked it yet if it will fit well. I tried to attach a chain guide but somehow there is no more space for it due to the Route's frame design. I initially intended my Route to have a 1x system so I won't have to worry about a front derailleur and keep things simple but with all the range of cogs I need for daily use.
@@GeNGiMPlanet same problem with the hanger. I put both Litepro clamp and Paloma extended hook to make the Front derailleur can be on top of bigger chainring but the frame block me to adjust the L-H bolt on FD. Now i decide using 1x10 Shimano SLX with 52 tooth chainring. All good. Thank you so much for sharing.
@@tungteen3542 Yeah I think they really designed the Route to be just a 1x (marketting decision). It's an entry level bike so I guess even when upgrading, you can only do so much. But with that SLX you got, you should not have any problems anymore. I personally just used an XT rear derailleur. My cogs go only up to 34T but I actually rarely reach 34T as my chainring is enough for all terrains I pass through. But anyway, thanks for dropping by and ride safe always ☺️
If your folding stem has one, then that might do the trick. But I suggest trying to check first if the headset bearing race/cups are properly pressed in and the actual bearings are seated well. That head nut will only secure the stem to the head tube and a loose headset might be caused by something else.
Sorry bro, not sure about the clamping clearance at all, was not able to measure it. I was just informed that this particular headset model is compatible with the Dahon Route stocj fork and headtube but I was not able to get specifics.
Sorry, I cannot find that much technical specs for Dahon foldies online and so I can't say what the Metro can use. I also haven't seen the Metro in real life so I won't be able to make estimations. 😅
i bought a surplus folding bike recently and just found out that the headset isn't foldable, and i want to change it to what you have there. is it possible?
Good day, unfortunately I was not able to weight anything at all. More likely there will be negligible weight difference (the litepro headset is lighter, of course). I initially did the upgrade primarily for performance upgrade more than weight improvement 😁
Haven't tried pero baka magconflict sa bearing races or sa bearing mismo yung threads ng fork. Baka i-grind ng threads yung races or magrind yung sealed bearings.
I used a size 10 or M10 hex. It's the largest I have in my hex set I suggest for you to get a set so you will have the range to handle all hex sizes used across your bike 😁
Already did - WD40 will only serve as a lubricant but this type of crown is press-fitted to the fork. It will not be removed simply by applying WD40, you actually need to use a specific crown removal tool as it will be super-tight and at time cold-welded to the fork. Problem is that the said tool is expensive for a one-time use so using e thin blade will help a lot.
Price range will be Php700-1000 depending on seller. You might get it for even less in overseas sellers but I can't guarantee it will be authentic Litepro-made.
What I don't quite understand is why you are running that ugly, messy rear rack when you have a luggage truss offering a simpler, more elegant load carrying solution and improved weight distribution. Nice bike, but that rear rack really detracts from its looks.
Thank you for taking the time to film this.
