Much love and respect to Monie Love. I’m 43 and I am SO GLAD I grew up in an era of Hip Hop where female emcees didn’t have to sexualize themselves to sell records. They were nice with the mic and you respected their artistry. That was enough. I wish it was like that now. Maybe that’s why I only mess with the legends.

I’m not from NY and I know Monie isn’t from there either but when I think of her and all the other legends that paved the way in hiphop, it brings back a certain nostalgia that I imagined NY to be back then just from some of the videos that I saw on TV.
