So, earlier this evening, or yesterday evening at this point, I did a Dutch pour painting.....with Dioxazine Purple (Liquitex Basics), Deep Purple (Liquitex Basics), Deep Magenta (Artists Loft), Turquoise (Artists Loft), Gold Metallic (Craft paint from Michael's) and A purple/Magenta Color Shift Craft Paint (from Michael's), all mixed with Liquitex Pouring Medium because it doesn't create cells like Floetrol...and guess what! For my first time doing this, it came out pretty darn well. I'm going to use the same colors for today's pour(s) to see what different results I can achieve with the pours, same everything else. Could you just use water to thin the paint instead of floetrol, if you did what would be the difference in the finished painting. Love your work, so colourful.

I have been noticing that a LOT of people doing "Silicone Free" pours are using Floetrol as if it is somehow different. It really IS NOT! It is a LATEX paint additive. LATEX and Acrylic paint are not the same thing. Except both being waterbased paint, they are completely different types of paint. Floetrol has similar issues as silicone in that it is not compatible with acrylic (hence the cells) and can get trapped in the acrylic layers and never dry. Over time this can lead to layer separation and those lovely cells disappear and the paint can peel. IF you are selling your pours and want your products to be professional, use isopropyl alcohol and learn more about how the colors work together. this is not just my personal opinion by the way. The manufactures of artist-grade acrylic paints (i.e. Golden and Liquitex) do not recommend Floetrol and like products for lasting results.
