It’s not about how she looks, she didn’t portray her style at all. Also the series if you look at it, is more of a mini series of the early life of Suzette not Selena, you see more of the sister and that’s not who I wanted to see. It’s pretty disappointing.

I don’t understand the people nitpicking the show because of the wigs, or because Christian doesn’t look exactly like Selena. The whole point of the series was to learn more about her actual story and what it was like for her as she rose to stardom, the family said so themselves. I think the series accomplished that.
They just thought that the wigs weren’t put on properly and It’s important when Your playing a beautiful role such as Selena Plus It looked less like they were interpreting a character and more like they were just playing dress up
When something feels off, it stops being what they intended. They didnt grasp her persona at all. Sometimes I forgot I was watching Selena.

I remember watching Selena as a kid and seeing her perform like this, from the picking someone out of the crowd to the sitting down part. THIS is Selena !! @@rayray88161 I think Que Creias was accurate and great! Yes some of the performances are mechanical because she is choreographed not a trained dancer. Can’t blame her there. It’s the choreographer if anything. She did her best with the material.

She literally did the same moves and bow. Did she jerk a little more yes but if you watch EVERY “Que Creias” performance she would snatch the guy up and roll her neck and shake her hips and jerk side to side....it’s a very sassy song. Is Christian acting? Yes she’s a damn actress but it’s believable to anyone that isn’t going to nitpick her to death because she did this scene justice. Her movement and lips weren’t off here. I never knew or heard of Selena until this tv series. I’m not from America. Where I’m from, especially in the 90s, the music scene was mainly Eurodance. Selena’s music is very different to what I’m used to. I feel like I missed out on something special. I wish I knew about Selena in the 90s, but in the 90s information didn’t travel that fast and we didn’t get to know everything that was happening around the world, the internet wasn’t that advanced back then, neither was the media. Thanks to Netflix, an international platform for most countries in the world to watch tv series and movies today, more people will know who Selena is now. However, whatever your opinion is of this tv show, I am thankful for it, because without it I wouldn’t be YouTubing and googling real videos and information about the real Selena and then watching the 1997 movie for the past 7 days. I am obsessed, a new fan.

The fact that Christian doesn't look exactly like Selena isn't the problem with the series. It's the sloppy writing, and the way they portrayed Selena as this one-dimensional character. Since the series was produced by her family you'd think they knew her better than anyone else but it feels like they didn't. I honestly got more insight into who Selena really was with Chris Pérez's book.

Yes, maybe because of deep down internal feelings. I'm sure she loved her sister but I remember seeing interviews where they would accidentally confuse Suzzette for a guy because she played the drums. As a young girl maybe it was hurtful to always see her shine. She had the control in who played her sister so who knows why she chose this woman. I'm in my 40s so I remember vividly that she never looked happy and actually looked hidden with all the big equipment. She might have also struggled with a lot of insecurities. If she ever felt jealousy growing up I feel bad for her because that doesn't mean she didn't love Selena. Ultimately, never having the opportunity to work that out. Just my opinion respects if I'm mistaken.

They all shined this season to me. We all know Season 2 is going to focus more on Selena and a Chris and the fashion line. We will get all the movie content and stuff that people are complaining about wanting to see next Season.

That floor drop move is not easy at all and requires a lot of core strength. Only seen Selena pull that off and she did it perfectly here.

The acting was really great from the whole cast. I recognized the dad (abraham) from desperate housewives so i knew it was gonna be good. Selena (christian) nailed her role. Season 1 really drew out their families struggles. It sucks having to wait until season 2 for the ending but i'll try to be patient!

@Rebecca Cruz Very well stated, I watched the entire Part 1 and found it to be well made and Christian has done a great job, she does capture Selena's personality and humor, people have to remember this was Selena at 16-17 who changed her looks nearly every day which drove her sister nuts, Part 2 will show Selena rising to super stardom, wish people would stop the complaining and enjoy it.

I feel like people that are saying she wasn’t good is because part 1 showed a side of Selena that most people are not aware of. So therefore only the true fans could have input. Nope. I've been a fan of Selena since the 90s. I've seen many interviews and concerts. This actress did not do Selena justice. I'm very aware of her 80s haircuts and past. Still this series was horrible.

@@esgeeye I’m probably her most hardcore fan and the series did tell us things we didn’t know. Southern Pearl and all that early stuff was not widely advertised or public knowledge. There were several Easter Eggs that the show gave us hardcore fans. You can’t even say what’s the show did or didn’t do because it’s not even HALFWAY over...y’all do understand that right? There are literally more episodes left then the 9 we have seen so far. There are 11 EPISODES left which is plenty of time for the show to cover what y’all are “missing”...it just wasn’t in season 1....Oh well 😐. Why not Season 1!?!? Because the first season was not suppose to highlight the legend and icon Selena because at that age she wasn’t legendary or iconic yet this was her building blocks to that level which will be shown in season 2. Now, if Season 2 doesn’t give then I can see y’all complaining but I mean damn let the show finish releasing first. 🙄😎

Christian did a fantastic job in this role. If you don’t agree, then there’s lot of things I don’t think you’re considering. This is not an easy role for sure and there are millions who hold Selena in their hearts so naturally, who ever would’ve been casted would be critiqued immensely. But Christian pulled it off. She’s an actress, not a Selena look alike, but I was never distracted by her image cause I know this is a fictional portrayal.

Admittedly, I pretty much only know songs by Selena that are in the 1997 movie. This song was new to me when I watched Selena: The Series. Powerful scene and song and singing. Beautiful and amazing and cool and funny. It's become one of my top favorite songs by Selena.

I think Christian did amazing as Selena! It's not about looking 100% like her- because nobody will. it's about embodying her charisma, her soul, her talent, her story- and sharing the story from a point of view that nobody has seen before. The younger generations are just now learning about Selena and the older ones are learning new facts about her. Like Suzette said in an interview - they couldn't tell the whole story in a 2 hour movie. The series focuses on the family & the behind the scenes of some of the greatest performances and songs. The series has a ignited a new passion for Selena's music. I. have been listening to her songs for the past few weeks and it's amazing to know how her spirit still loves on through her wonderful works of art. We love you Selena and thank you for this beautiful cast and crew for this show.

Having an actress who looks like Selena was the least of my concerns. The show tried to show us who Selena was as a person and the failed. Selena was a humble, passionate and FUNNY, Selena was a complex woman.The actress had no charisma and stage presence. Why make a show about an icon and not show any of those things. It would have been nice to see that Selena too had struggles with her self and the complexities of being a Latina pop icon . Instead it was a pedestrian depiction of Selena and her family.

I couldn’t agree more! Sure her family was involved in this process, but the dialogue lacked depth and Selena’s charm, charisma, humor, and humility do not shine through. My boyfriend watched it with me and he didn’t know anything about her or her life really and at one point he goes, “wow, she was really conceited, wasn’t she?” I said NO, that’s not how she was at all!! It doesn’t just fall on the actress, it’s also the writers and the stories they chose to tell and how they told them.

Thank you Netflix for this special Easter egg in the show. This song is so damn good with so much feeling. She should’ve used more angry gestures. Like grabbing his shirt. She did that though with the bowing to the guy. But she should’ve introduced him as her ex novio at the end, not the beginning.

It's really not the actress's looks but her energy (and in this scene her connection w/ the audience and man) that seem off in her portrayal .

Well it’s not easy
No can ever duplicate Selena. In one way or another they will always fall short. Selena was a once in a lifetime performer. People have to stop holding these actresses to the same standards they hold Selena in because they'll continually be let down. The story telling is really good in this series in my opinion.
