Paul Andersen explains important concepts that can not be explained by simple Mendelian genetics. He begins with a discussion of polygenic inheritance and uses a simulation on height to show how a bell shape curve of phenotypes is produced. He then discusses the importance of linked genes and those that are found on the sex chromosome. A simple punnett square showing the inheritance of the color blind gene is included.

Came to learn about Advanced Genetics. Left colorblind.
Dang it and all this time I thought my vision was normal..
What is "normal"?
Yep, normal is what the majority has. If you are the only non colorblind person in a group, you would be the odd one
If the majority of people can't see the visible spectrum, then it wouldn't be the visible spectrum. Also light and color are complicated, it might be interesting for you folks to read up on it some more
I've been watching all your videos and seriously you are great at explaining, it looks so simple (and the pictures are really helpful ) 😌 thank you!
Not only your videos are helpful, but they are really fun to watch
You are my favorite person. Seriously. I love watching all your videos! They're really helpful.
I love to see your videos. I hope you can continue this kind of video because it’s really helpful~
Mr Anderson u are amazing man u make me clear with genetics 😃
You sir, just earned another subscriber.
the way he says "picture" is honestly so adorable
Andrea Duran It sounds good to me. :)
you guys are fucken weird!!
Desiree Garcia yeah
Got a big test coming up in Bio, and these videos are amazing. Thank you!
yeah let us know
Thank you so much for all of your videos, SO helpful. God bless :D :D
Your videos are amazing! Thank you :)
49? It just looks like a mixture of green and pink to me.
cuz ur dumb, me see it cuz me smart
great video, very helpful :) thank you
So smart I learn so much from the vids I watch. Keep it up
I can see the 37 quite clearly, and the 56 stands out like neon lights for me, which I found odd that most of the comments mentions not being able to see 56 at all. I suspect that that means that (that) the problem with those individuals is that they cannot see some of those shorter wave lengths. A quick search revealed that the colour I am seeing for 56 looks similar to the type of violet at the very edge of the spectrum. At first I couldn't see 49, but then I realised it was the darker areas.
Great video, very clear and easy to follow, great job! Thanks alot!
(By the way I also saw 44)
Thanks for helping me prepare for my bio test ;D
Nice vid, Got me 5 bonus points on my biology test.
Thanks for this video!
I can't see the 56! D:
I'm not positive, but that probably means that you are not colorblind.
Me too
barely see it
I have the same color blindness with Mr.Anderson!BTW thanks for your awesome videos:)
"And you'll figure out how high you're gonna get!" Omg Anderson
What if i can't see the 37 and the 56 at all? I can see only the 49
really very helpful :)
Thanks a lot ...
I'm going to watch all your videos. Way better than this text book.
One little mistake, the genes for flower color and seed color are on the same chromosome; however, they are so far apart that they behave as if not linked.
I can make out the 37 and the 49 and also vaguely trace the outline of the 56 but probably wouldn't have been able to make out the number if it wasn't on the bottom. Does this mean anything?
Hey i found your video interesting , may be you can give me hand with our dog problem / question. I´m interested in this - We have brothers A and B. Because A died and we would like to bring his genetics back. A also having still living son lets say A1. Who of those ones is better for getting as much A gens back ? Is it B (brother) or A1 (son)?
I cant see the 49...
Well-Taught!
Paul Andersen, you are a God.
THANKS SO MUCH :D
thanks so much :D
Thanks
FYI if you're watching this and suddenly think you're color blind because you can't see the third square, you're probably not. I'm not colorblind and couldn't see it unless I tilt my screen way back - image must be distorted.
I agree. I'm not colorblind and I could see the first one ok, the second one with some squinting and couldn't see the third one at all.
what is the difference between
multiple alleles and multiple genes
I don't think I'm colorblind, but I couldn't make out the 6 in the 56 (and the 5 was a struggle).
Hi I have a question.. I was told by me bio teacher that the x aditional chromosome in a woman condenses and makes a sort of ball called a barr that practically does not have any function.. she told me that woman have this nonfunctinal chromosome condensed in every cell.. why does this chromosome do help in some diseases... is this barr not totally malfunctioning
Can anyone tell me what specific type of colorblindness the third box is? I've gone all this time thinking my vision was perfect but I can't see any number in that box!
Rachel Climer I see a light type of pinkish purple, If the color of the number is your question.
+Rachel Climer I can't see it either!
Theese same theorys can be applied to plant breeding right.??
Does anyone know which school he teaches at?
instructions unclear: brought back dinosaurs and made a theme park
What type of color blindness is the 37? I can't see it
I wish this guy was my Biology teacher
37, 49 and 56. I will edit this comment when I know.
Yay got em all good :D
I think the DNA in the mitochondria are those little circle plasmids in the diagram he was using
wait... so the blank greenish-whitish boxes had stuff in them? now that you mention it I see a vague 37 inside the first but nothing in the other two. Haha... good thing I read the comments before continuing with the vid. Thanks people for your comments.
I can't see the 37 or the 49!
Mr. Anderson, you said that mtDNA is passed from mother to mother. It should be corrected to "passed from mother to child."
Unless the child grew up to be a mother :)
no
I can't see the 56 :(
Mrrrrrrrrrrr.... Andersooonnnn...
I was today years old when I learned that I was colorblind.
You seem like the kind of person who uses Ifunny
@@coryfromcoryinthehouse3632 lol, i don't, but i see where you're coming from.
at 00:53 what does he mean when he says mother to mother??
....fron one to another
k'gt ur wrong idea too
Basically it's like something being passed down from a mother to her daughter who will become a mother, and so on and so forth.
7:48 🧬
studying for finals has never been easier

I can't see the 56

Couldn't see 37 :/
Hello, I have a question, what are the three types of color blindness called, I just found out I have one of them and would like to do some research on it. Thank you very much.
Could not see the 56
i can't see the 56!! o:
I wish Mr. Anderson could write my AP exam for me :')
How about no more exams lol
Muhammad Faisal hah
@@faisalm22 ur mom will
I couldn't see the 56.
Im in miiddleschool and i understand it is helps :)
crap i cant see 56 and 49 :/
i can't see 56 too!
Thanks euheide
AAKASH SAHU No problem :)
I can't see 37 or 49
the fact they have 2 x chromosomes means they diseased chromosome can be "ignored" and the other x functional chromosome relied on. But in males, they have just one x and one y, which means if either is affected, it will readily show as both are fully functional.
49!
Omg I love you.
Aww, poor Anderson.
64 kids. Incredible
Deutanopy- no receptors for green seen as red
Protonapy - no receptors for red seen as green
Tritanopy- no receptors for blue seen as green.
i dont see 56
nice, im a 1/100 then... dad's colorblind as well
dang! I didn't know I was colorblind until now!
can anyone see the 49 bc im freaking out that im colorblind :0
I can't see the 56 interesting...
Iman Joneser I couldn't see any of them 🤔
Haha
If a Holiday junction occurred could genes on the same chromosome be split apart? Bozeman Science
i ama girl. colorblind :p
Multiple gene means polygene.
OMJEEE im colorblind!! i cant see 56!! WHAT COLOR IS ITT!!?!?!?! (DDDD:)
does anyone else wonder if he uses a mouse or a pen to draw out the things that he does?
BIOLOGY SIMPLIFIED
poor levi got stuck with aabbcc :(
my mum and her sister didn't have any daughters.. so their mum's mtDNA is going to be lost forever when i die... that's a strangely sad thought lol
James Mallon Fortunately, you don't have to worry about that :) :) !
Turns out that our Mitochondrial DNA is genetically identical to all the individuals in these five racial clades: Caucasians (Europeans and Middle Easterners), Altayics (Northern and Central Asians), Amerinds (Native Americans), Austrosinites (Southeastern Asians), and Australoids (Southern Asians and Oceanian Aborigines)
These clades listed here are included into one giant clade - originating from the first people who migrated out of Africa.
Unsurprisingly, various Black African clades have different mitochondrial DNA - even different from individual to individual.
So, don't feel sorry about your moms DNA. I have it, you have it, and your nephews all have it.
LOL
Funnily enough I'm a carrier of colour blindness just like his mum, pretty freaky haha.
i could only see the 56 hahaha!
i wanna get really "high"
WOW 64 KIDS!
frick I couldn't see a single number
64 kids LOLS
I couldn't see 56!!!!!!!
What if the guy had a big D and the girl had a big A?
He's awfully chipper today. They must have opened a new dispensary in Bozeman.
Can we please not conflate gender with biological sex (which is not binary either)? Thanks. It's really violent and hurtful.
No
