Hi bud. To make better use a large korda kicker instead of shrink tube. That way when you need to change the hook you can just crush the barb and take everything off without having to tie a new boom section. Also saves you money on shrink tube because if you crush the barb when changing the hook the kicker and the bead doesn't become damaged when you take it off.
Hi Simon...another great video...............Another mistake i commonly see is people make up his rig and put the slight curve in the shrink tube, as you have explained. then they attach the Boom section and store it on a rig board with the rig pulled tight. When you come to use the rig the curve in the shrink tube is pulled straight!!! i always make the hook section of the rig up, and always add the boom i require on the bank. I just cover the point of the hook with a small piece of foam andIi have loads of these hooks sections made up in a pot i carry in my tackle box
Simon new subscriber and returning to fishing. Trying to catch up on new techniques through YT. Just to say you made this so clear as a pose to so many I have watched. Thank you.
Great video on tip to improving the Ronnie/Spinner Rig favour a bottom bait or a SlipD Rig over a Ronnie Rig as it's widely used at the moment a bit like the Chod rig about 10 year's ago
Always been a skeptic of the ronnie due to it being a trendy rig and tried to be different and not use it but with your adaptations I think I may give it a go as the mechanics look solid now! Excellent video mate😁
I only use flexible material for the boom section if I’m fishing over a very uneven bottom as it won’t reset if it gets moved by feeding fish or bird life- I prefer a stiff material to reset when using a Ronnie. If you don’t feather it or fish to a clip it could lie badly - great info for new carp anglers👍
Prefer it with a wide gape with an in-turned eye myself, sits very aggressively.I tie to the swivel ring with an overhand knot leaving a loop sits much better. The korda spinner swivels are much neater.
Good insight mate! didn't really use a blob of putty in the middle of the boom section as I was using 25lbs coated braid but I will now! Topman tight lines 👍
Hi Simon some good tips..Will try a bit more curve s/tubing on swivel, also putty on my ESP hook link never had to put it on Boom/Rigidity.. Look forward to your next vlog mate till then stay safe/well.........LC
Not sure if anyone has mentioned this, but another mistake is to push the pop up too far onto the swivel, if your bait is out there for some time, it can swell, press against the ring on the hook and stop the swivel from rotating. It may or may not make a difference, but everything you can put in your favour improves your chances!
Love your video. Love the multi Brands of tackle. Quick question, what weight of lead do you find the most effective? Keep the great videos coming and tight lines
You could definitely use it in a solid bag. I would suggest using a supple braid boom rather than coated braid so it goes in the bag nicely. Maybe 5-6 inches is about right 👌
Well done mate I don't see the point in using shrink tube cuz once you have done that you can't change the hook quickly I just use a small piece of tubing then you can take it off easily 😊👍
Hi Simon, great video. Im just thinking, could the rig be further improve by using a loop into the swivel, and also use foam on the hook to make sure the line lays nicely away from the lead.
Interesting stuff! I've just bought some ready tied rigs to start off and then build my own later... those rigs have stiff fluorocarbon hooklinks.. the only difference compared to yours is the blob of putty in the middle of the hooklink, do you think it would need it that on a stiff fluorocarbon hooklink??
Thanks for your helpful video, but i hope you will answer my. How often is the mouth of te carp damaged. I saw last time a fish whit 2 deep cuts and finally a good hooked position in the under lip . Is there Maby a mistake? Personally I don’t want to to see this happening when it’s not necessary
I was wondering the same also, as I have tried both and found you get more movement off the barrel but whether this makes a difference who knows??? Simon enlighten us lol, also great video 👍
I’m not convinced by the hook bead position. I’ve been trying the ronnie for a number of sessions now and I’ve never had so many beeps and no takes on any other rig! Today when I got home to test the failed rig I noticed that the particular pop up I used wasn’t buoyant enough to lift the hook to an almost vertical position (with the hook bead opposite barb as adviced) and concluded that with the hook then being positioned horizontal, it was much easier to eject. Moving the bead around gave the pop up far more leverage to stand the hook up properly, and I cannot see how that position leaves more chance of blow out than the horizontal. I mean how on earth can it? The only problem I see with a hook being vertical is that it may alarm the fish earlier on the suck in stage and praps cause an earlier blow back than if it had glided in easier on a more horizontal position. However being horizontal also helps the carp to blow it out without the prick touching the lip. So it’s catch 22 really. Maybe something in between is ideal, so the positioning of the bead would depend entirely on the level of buoyancy from the pop up.
I know this is an old(er) video so might be too late for a reply.... But can you see any problems using a bait screw instead of floss on a micro swivel? Cheers
Hi mate that should work fine. There's are many different versions of the Ronnie which all work it's definitely worth experimenting to find your preferred setup
How would u use this with an inline rig in a pva bag.. ive caught fish with a ronnie rig (inline pva bag)but if what u say about the distance between the laed an the rig is true, then i might be doing it wrong..
Hi mate I wouldn't normally recommend using a pop up with a PVA bag to be honest. It obviously works for you but it's much better to use a wafter or bottom bait. One of the main reasons being the possibility of foul hooking the carp in the face as it will be feeding on the bottom on the contents of your bag and the pop up will be above.
Krank hooks and korda kickers for me, as already said in comments crush the barb once hook is blunt n take it all off and re use everything, never lost a fish on the kranks. Everyone has there preference I suppose, great video though very informative
Hi good tip's, those small tweeks make a big difference. I set my rig up exactly like yours but I use the nash gyro hook/swivel. I've just subscribed I'm looking forward to your next video
I've never used a ronnie rig because I'm so confident in the multi rig its served me well. In your honest opinion simon what is your go to pop up for singles during the colder months. I apologise in advance if this has been covered as I'm new to your channel
Great video Simon thanks. I have a few questions now, one of my fishing lakes only allows up to a size 8 so I have only just made a Ronnie Rig so should I just carry on with my Combie rig or D rig? I also us a bait screw instead shouldn’t I use a bait screw? Thanks for the video again mate.
Nothing wrong with bait screws mate I sometimes use them too. I think a Ronnie is best suited to large hooks and if you're catching on combi rigs then stick with them. 👍
I get over this problem on the 360 by just steaming down a small piece of shrink tube over the eye of the hook. This prevents the 360 getting caught in your landing net, and prevents any damage to the fishes mouth.
@@SimonDewCarpFishing Ok cool! i always thought they were ok.. i use silicone kickers over the eye and link but i think the shrink tube is safer... I do get a bit paranoid about it now, as there is always someone saying they aren't safe! Some waters are banning, both the ronnie and 360.. anything with a swivel attached i believe! I will change mine to shrink tube after watching this though, despite never having an issue.. thanks my friend..

Yes I've seen that too. It's important to keep rigs stored safely so they work as intended. 👌

Great video on tip to improving the Ronnie/Spinner Rig favour a bottom bait or a SlipD Rig over a Ronnie Rig as it's widely used at the moment a bit like the Chod rig about 10 year's ago

I like the idea of a supple boom. Especially in weed etc. Also I guess for silty bottoms the lead can sink in and the bait still presented 👌
Simon Dew Carp Fishing in silt I fish a helicopter set up with the bead pushed well up so the lead can bury - great content mate and tight lines👍
Really useful advise and tips as usual. Great video Simon.

I'm the same, I prefer the wide gape hook pattern, I wouldn't mind trying it with the ridgemonkey rota swivel
Totally agree. Size 4 wide gape and a loop. I fish it with a boom made from Amnesia.
Forgotten material. Not hip. But I like it.
Fair play I might give that a go 👌
Korda spinner swivels are so much better and neater as already stated
I always snip off the pointy end of the swivel with a pair of snips. The tubing will always keep the hook on. The rig is is more streamline.
Good idea 👍
Good insight mate! didn't really use a blob of putty in the middle of the boom section as I was using 25lbs coated braid but I will now! Topman tight lines 👍

awsome video, thank you!! just a question, would you recommend using a solid PVA pag with this rig if so what sort of length do you make the rig?
You could definitely use it in a solid bag. I would suggest using a supple braid boom rather than coated braid so it goes in the bag nicely. Maybe 5-6 inches is about right 👌

Good informative video agen mate, cant wait for the anti tangle one, as i would get tangled using steel rope😆
Haha cheers mate. I think that video will be the next one hopefully so keep an eye out 👌
Do you strip the braid then tie to swivel or do you use the coated braid all the way threw
Coated all the way mate 👌

Hi Simon, great video. Im just thinking, could the rig be further improve by using a loop into the swivel, and also use foam on the hook to make sure the line lays nicely away from the lead.
Hi mate the swivel has a loop already as it's a ring swivel. I don't think another loop is necessary and may cause tangles etc

I'd still add a bit mate yeah. It helps the rig lay down straight. Even stiff material has some flexibility
@@SimonDewCarpFishing Nice one cheers mate!
Simon is that braid all stripped off, or is it that supple. It looks like plain braid to my eyes? Thanks excellent.

Can you use this rig with a size 10 hook realistically if that is the max size the venue allows?
Not really to be honest it wouldn't turn properly. You'd be better off with a withy pool rig or a multi rig 👍
I’ve noticed some people have the shrink tube over the barrel, some don’t. What’s your thoughts ?
I was wondering the same also, as I have tried both and found you get more movement off the barrel but whether this makes a difference who knows??? Simon enlighten us lol, also great video 👍
As long as the swivel can turn I think it doesn't really make a difference and its down to personal preference. 👍
Hi Simon I saw you added the putty close to the lead section for the semi stiff. Would you also add this if you were using a stiff boom section?
I’m not convinced by the hook bead position. I’ve been trying the ronnie for a number of sessions now and I’ve never had so many beeps and no takes on any other rig! The solution is to use super buoyant pop ups mate. If yours aren't holding the hook up they aren't buoyant enough 👌
can you use size 6 CURVE Shank for this rig
Yes absolutely but I've found a bigger hook is better 👍
Good vid Simon even better with a wide gape hook
The angling iron curves actually have a nice wide gape and compared to their anchor hooks which are wide gape, they're slightly wider 👍
@@SimonDewCarpFishing never tried they hooks but they look sharp tho

Generally just put them in the bin mate. Maybe we should recycle 🤔

Great video mate, I've heard if your using a wafter or bottom bait with this rig then you shouldn't use a ring swivel, any truth in this pal?
I wouldn't use this rig for wafters and bottom baits personally as I prefer a blowback 👍
If you use it with a wafter or bottom bait you remove the putty. It becomes a turbo german rig. But I prefer a blow out rig or a simple hair rig.
What about size of hook
Mostly a super sharp size 4 I think any smaller and the gape is too small leading to more hook pulls 👍

Should do a how to spod and cast rigs on that spot accurately
Definitely on my list for future videos mate 👌
I get concerned that the hook end of the quick change swivel, will get caught in the net when landing a fish...
