A great and honest video Paul, thank you. Many people on these social platforms want to just make themselves look good and stand out. By doing that they make out that they don’t suffer in life. I always have to get out and go for a walk or a wild camp to give myself a reset. I even found a spot, like yours in the woods only 10 mins walk from home. I slept in my hammock and had a great night. It was just enough to reset myself. I also see a therapist and have done for a couple of years now. Again like you say “a problem shared is a problem halved” my therapy has helped me so much that I’ve even starting a degree in September in psychotherapy. Thanks again for a great vid. Keep up the good work.

Best one yet Paul, and I can totally relate to what you say.
90% of the time I'm just fine, but when that 10% hits, I just need an escape, or just someone to talk to.
Luckily, I have found both, which can usually get me through the bad times.
Excellent advice about not keeping things to yourself.

I have a nightmare neighbour upstairs. Had a water leak through my ceiling cos of his washing machine. Loud music at silly o clock. That really stresses me most as it's affecting my home. Work stress is different where I think I'm my own worst enemy. I kinda get stressed hiking where it gets too high for me as I'm not great with heights but that's a problem..or a challenge that I'm trying to change. fold the front edge of your hammock back when you sit on it so it doesn't push your knees up to your chin - more comfortable.
It's hard to realise in the moment , but whatever you're feeling now, will pass with time. Toxic positivity/advice- "pull yourself together" "man up", "Git Gud" without the mechanism to get to that point is at best useless, at worst lethal.

I volunteered to take an unpaid sabbatical year off, to sort myself out. When I returned for the start of the September term my boss had terminated my post. I had no job to come back to.

On sleep, I’m the same as you. Usually takes me ages to drop off (despite doing all the right things). However the last 6 months, I’ve had nights, where I’ve fallen asleep within 3-5mins of hitting the pillow. Wish I knew how/why!
On the stress/depression/well being. Those times when even the things I really enjoy, seem meh, and just can’t be arsed, I’ve learnt to recognise that it’s just a wave. It will pass, and I just go with it.
Exercise helps massively. Sometimes have to force myself out walking or cycling. Then feel great for it, even if short lived. But these times are infrequent which I’m thankful for.
    All the best to everyone,
    Cheers
    Gary B

Mental health issues aren't just a male thing, women hide it too. The suicide rates show it affects everyone. neurodiversity is an issue too. If you have multiple issues, such as ASD,ADHD and dyslexia, according to the NHS, you have a life expectancy of 54 years. People on the "spectrum" might look okay but even when they are, they are paddling like mad to keep their head above water. Talking and being outside really makes a difference. It's helping me do my bit at raising this age stat. Well done Paul.

Thank you for making this vid. I tried filming something similar a couple of weeks ago, but I can't face the editing as I'm worried that I'll make a hash of the subject.
I was trying to raise the awareness of men's mental health as June is men's mental health month and it's something that isn't spoken about and is overshadowed by other awareness.
Twice as many women get diagnosed with anxiety and depression than men. This is probably because men don't seek help, which is probably why ¾ of the UK suicides are men. A shocking statistic.
You are right, it's ok not to be ok, and I'd rather spend 4 hours listening to a mates problems than spending an hour at his funeral.

We are all living at a time when we are having to rely on things and situations that we have little control over. While that has always been the case to some degree, almost everything we rely on today, food, transportation, social and professional communication, housing etc, depends on other people who may or may not have any interest in us personally. I think we underestimate how much that leads to chronic stress. Just 40 yrs ago, we knew the car mechanic, the police, we knew the grocer, we knew our doctor, we knew our neighbors etc. Most importantly we knew what we were doing and why. I don't see that anymore.

Please if anyone needs help , reach out to family or friends... if you have no-one then use a stranger in a pub , cafe , top deck of a bus... you can call the Samaritans. Someone is always ready to listen. You just have to reach out... Be it stress or depression, talking about it really could save your life.... Take care out there.

I've always liked the fact that you're talking about this stuff. It's important that we do. Life can be a absolute shit at times, but if we talk or if we do stuff like get out into a little bit of nature, it can help.

I think the 4 walls starts to feel lilke they're closing in on us when we're stressed, getting out is vital.

I am beginning to feel like a quack, having you laying down and telling us your issues! That will be 100 pounds please!😂 Anyway Paul, I am glad you can be so honest and I agree that we all need to talk about our issues. I was a trained counselor in the military for 4 years during one of my tours and I know it helps to get things off our chests when we need to. In the military, we are taught to compartmentalize our feels in order to get on with the mission, but eventually we have to open that Pandora’s box and sort through it all. It can be painful, but it has to be done. I didn’t even know I had PTSD from combat until later in my career and boy, it manifests itself in weird ways if you don’t do what you just did! Talk it out a bit. 😊

I’ve been really enjoying these films Paul, thank you.
They may not be the “big hitters” but they are useful and inspiring.
The kit reviews will always pay your bills but the “others” are the ones that will help, inspire, guide and will be more memorable in the long run.
The one constant in life is change.
I hope your Sister is ok.
    Best wishes, Jiffy 👍🏻

I never 'switch-on', so very little if anything bothers me anymore (except the in-laws).

If stress made me healthy , I would live forever . You never know what the person next to you is going through . 🫶❤️🐾
