- Going to start putting out short videos on my short after-work fishing trips to Newport Beach Harbor. I typically fish the Coast Guard station but I do plan to start hitting other spots in the harbor - so stay tuned if you want to see whats biting in the bay on weekdays!
I think I just caught the exact spotted sand bass you caught first in your video a couple days ago. Lol, he's about the same size maybe a hair chunkier, looks exactly the same of course. Good times. He's past the take size so I took him home and am keeping him in my new 60 gallon aquarium. I named him spot. He's friendly, enjoys eating a variety of shrimp and doesn't mind the occasional pet. Very vibrant colors with bright orange spots at the head fading to some more brown spots near the tail. He got himself off the hook as soon as I got him into my travel tank. In great health. 11/10 pet fish.
p.s. full disclosure, he is watching me type this as his tank is directly adjacent to my desk but on my honor this is not biased.
lol
60 gallons is tiny for a 16inch fish. Bay bass want to be out in the bay 🤔
@@yakitup805 it’s a 60 gallon long with lots of space to swim. The size of a good tub 🛁 he’s got plenty of space and flow. My good friend the manager of the LFS that is an Aquarist is always helping me and reminded me that they don’t usually roam a great deal unless feeding, and from now on he gets free food for life 🤷♂️ he’s enjoying it. He likes it here.
@@SurfCityCorals-jx3zcyou can make a plywood tank long as you treat and seal the wood that can be any size you require. Ohio fish rescue youtube channel makes 1200 gal+ tanks for their larger fish.
@@backbaysailor right on. Thanks! I’ll do some more research. I’m looking into big stock tanks as well.
Is this at Sophie's Beach?
@@kjve9009 yup!
Where is Sophie’s beach located and where to park I’m going tommorow but have no clue where to go?
What is the lure your using?
The one I caught the bigger spotty on was a 'Warbaits Neckbreaker' with a walmart Orzark trail fluke and the other small jig is a micro 'rock rover' jig that I got in Portugal and i cant seem to find here in the US
I’m using a glow in the dark octopus lure with fresh squid 🦑 works well
Why would you want to fish that small? It’s not even enough for a meal. I like bigger things out there like halibut and stuff.
fish for fun, and spottys are pretty cool to catch they fight pretty hard for a “fish that small”
