I recommend The Deep by Rivers Solomon for a mermaid book! It’s a bit of a heavy read, very thought provoking and beautiful

If you liked Wuthering Heights I think you will love Jane Eyre! So gothic and emotional 🥰 They are both some of my favourite books!

I read about half of Little Eyes. The first chapter was an interesting and unsettling take but the rest was relatively mundane. It was such an interesting premise but the potential wasn’t fleshed out in my opinion. It really just turned into watching other people’s daily routines. Since I didn’t finish it I’m excited to see your take

jane eyre holds so much feminine value. i honestly wish that jane was a real person because she would be the woman i would go to if i needed relationship advice.

Circe is actually the sorceress seen in the Odyssey, who turned every man that visited her island into an animal (usually pigs were her signature choice lol). The one with snakes is Medusa, who had a head full of snakes instead of hair and she was turning anyone who looked her in the eyes into stone! That is an equally interesting story and backstory, so fingers crossed that Madeline Miller will get to it eventually haha!

the best mermaid stories i've read: the salt grows heavy by cassandra khaw (twisted, gorey horror retelling of what really happened to and after the little mermaid. queer, gruesome and every line is a work of art) and the deep by rivers solomon (much more well known but still underhyped imo, absolutely incredible character dynamics and descriptions and the storyline is lush and impactful. haunting is the best word i could use to describe it)

As someone who had to write a 3000 word essay about Jane Eyre, I just wanted to let you know that there is quite a bit of racism towards the end of the book which is gross and that it is by no means a “healthy” romance at all!! But it’s really enjoyable once you have that in mind

Unpopular opinion, but I may have liked Circe a bit more than Song of Achillies! I don't know, but I just adored that book. It's such a female empowerment moment! I hope you enjoy it. 🤎
