The little human girl being revealed to also be a robot because the aunt was so bad at taking care of her that she died and she replaced her or something and that's why M3GAN was so attached to the little girl/robot would have been an amazing twist.

I'm so immensely grateful for Allison Williams' lack of talent. Sharing her name seemed like it could get annoying when Get Out first came around, but now I think I'm officially safe. Also, my sister and I had a furby that we got so sick of that we wrapped them in a towel and shoved it in a drawer. It was quiet for weeks and then out of nowhere it started talking again. Its muffled chipper voice was so freaky in a quiet house.
The fact that Avaryl doesn’t know what a Fleshlight looks like tells me that she may know what Pornhub is as a concept, but she’s never been on there. 😂
You guys are forgetting that this movie needed to be PG-13 because M3gan's dance went viral and was popular with the teenagers on tiktok. It's a smart decision.

My mother saw a production of Woman in Black in London in the late 90s. While my father fell asleep because of jet lag, my mother said it was one of the spookiest scariest things she has ever watched in live theater. Everything was left up to the audience's imagination and conveyed through wonderful sound design. She saw it 30 plus years ago and still remembers it to this day.
My first experience of Woman in Black was a theatre production in early-mid 2000s (Nottingham, UK). Definitely the scariest thing I’ve seen live too! Lighting, stage design, and sound were all excellent. Better than most TV/movie horror I’ve seen in recent years
I totally agree that kids being desensitized and told to laugh at violence is kinda terrifying. My mom showed me Tropic Thunder when I was 9 and now I'm 22 and STILL feel nauseous when I think of the intestine scene lmao. We need more sensitive crybabies in the world
2:30 I mean M3gan literally looks like Olsen twin. And they definitely haven't payed a nickel to them. 4:30 To be fair Child's Play actually did a great job with including kids - and the actors weren't traumatised. And they also treated them properly later on - with the original kid getting brought back in last few movies and in the TV series. Which is genuinely how you make a good sequel - expanding on the existing, instead of doing it again from scratch (looking annoyingly at Charmed remake). Which is also funny, because he had that Culkin route, where his character was dropped for few movies and in the meantime he stopped being a cute child actor, and started to look like any generic dude. Which ironically also happened to his adopted movie sister, who was a badass edgy teen in second movie, but now looks like a mom. Interesting to see them again in Netflix level production not looking like Hollywood people. As if they brought some random Joe from a street to play those big evil doll hunting duo. 4:40 Btw. for a lot of those movies - they actually make kids film separately, without monsters being present - specifically for that purpose. That's also why you won't see a lot of scenes where you have a shot of the monster and the kid there. And even if you do get it - they do use quite often the stand-doubles. Same thing with any "adult" related content. 8:30 I do wonder how Director's cut will look like. I do think it may be because of the popularity it had on Tiktok was the reason why the made it PG13 for the cinemas. 13:35 I means she pretty much created Terminator and it ended people. That's either life sentence or a job at the military or pretty much both. 15:30 OK but how about a movie with those long centipede furbies people make on the Internet as main monsters. Now that would be peak fiction. 35:00 Now it really makes it look like it was an anti-social sociopathic scientist making a defensive murder robot that she tested on her traumatised orphan niece. It does kinda abide to the tropes of any villain ever?
Someone needs to hire you two as screenwriters, seriously. The way you made the plot to this 1000x more interesting in the span of a 40 minute video is wild.

The volume of my gay scream when the aunt character casually revealed the giant, incredibly complex, sci-fi robot in the garage was a college project....

I thought there was going to be a twist where Megan was actually in love with Gemma because Megan goes off on "we had long talks about Janis Joplin. I thought you were my friend." That could have easily turned into "I don't care about Katy. I just wanted to be closer to you."
Love when you two brainstorm better ideas. Do you think the villain aunt was meant to portray a kind of strange, Elizabeth Holmes, driven, manipulative, heartless, robotic type?
I agree this is a pretty family friendly film for kids like 10 and over IMO. But I liked it for that too when I readjusted. It's going way more for comedy in the mix of horror-comedy and I had a fun time.
Hmm I think this review is way off the mark. The child actor was excellent for one. And it has very good commentary on the state of modern technology and how it’s just one mindless distraction after another. I have personally seen “iPad kids” get totally sucked in and it’s horrifying, and this movie played on that theme well.
Avaryl, do you mind if I use your point about horror films and why they don't connect in a video essay I'm writing? Because it's something I've been trying to write about for a while and I really think you've hit the nail on the head!
Avaryl isn't alone for thinking that about Toy Story because I had a similar thought that my toys would be mad if I left them somewhere or that my stuffed animals were upset they couldn't sleep on my bed. Also was afraid of finding nemo and monsters inc because I thought Nemo and Boo had been kidnapped LMAO
Okay. Let's talk : in a crossover movie, Katie (the child with robot arms) fights Gabriel (from Malignant) in the dream world. With the robot arms. I actually loved this movie 👀but I didn't see it in theaters, I don't think I would have enjoyed it as much in a theater. I think that what made me enjoy it from the start was them playing that toy commercial that had a girl crying at the grave of her real pet and ditching it for the toy. That set me up for the tone I was gonna be getting from the movie and I really enjoyed it throughout, I knew I wasn't in for Halloween 1978, I was in for Sleepaway Camp, if that makes sense. I wasn't expecting some high literary level of script writing, I was in there for silly fun, not to get scared. I understand that it didn't become incredibly unhinged, but I'm sure the uncut version might have gone further with that. As a totally pointless side note, Magic Mixies was the most popular toy of 2021 and Hatchimals the most popular toy of like 2016, so yeah, Furby-like toys just keep being re-invented and being just as popular, for whatever reason 😆that was actually accurate. M3gan the borg queen is a sequel idea I'm on board for 🙌
I totally agree that horror movie really changed the formula... Now they treat horror movie more like a roller coaster, a thrilling ride. I love the old slow burn story of old horrorr movie or Ari Aster-esque movie. It's slow ride through dark woods, eerie, manacing, exhilarating yet not blasting with jumpscare! Love
They should have pushed the gas more, made it campier. I still had fun tho. But I do think this is what the last Chucky movie tried and failed with the Ai. Megan had personality tho
to Avaryl’s point about modern horror just putting scary shit in front of the camera for the audience’s pleasure with zero characters giving it any weight: when Barbarian came out in the fall, people were talking about horror filmmaking/its effectiveness and i saw a great tweet that said “someday people will realize horror is in the connections you make in your mind and less about things that look scary to you.” like i genuinely saw people mad that they didn’t get to see whatever the old man had on his home movies, you just saw the labels he made for each one + a brief audio clip + justin long’s face before turning it off in disgust. yes i have my problems with Barbarian but that was also a campy horror movie that sticks out way more than M3GAN, it’s marketing was incredibly deceptive, whereas this movie’s marketing pretty much laid it all out for you.
Hulu's Into the Dark anthology film series had Pooka and its sequel where a popular toy goes nuts at the launch and before Christmas, I think? Idk they're fucking weird and get real trippy. Soft recommend if you're looking for that particular vibe.
I also love the idea that maybe Megan like starts to watch movies and learns more about being human and realizes that she’ll never be human with the real girl around so Megan ultimately end up killing the killing her at the climax so she can be the real girl now
*so* interesting that it got a PG rating in the US - cos over in the UK she got a 15 rating, and it definitely was needed. also - a sequel where the coding downloaded by the awkward assistant got sent to SheEO girlboss of the rival toy company, who is played by matthew morrison, and a new version of m’threegan is made, but the og version that’s in the home assistant is like “there can’t be more than one of us x” and goes on a rampage via downloading herself to a new shell. matthew morrison dies xx
Have you seen Drew Barrymore cosplay as M3GAN? It is so wild and now that you suggested a famous person's likeness should have been used for M3GAN it should definitely be her!
I feel like M3GAN on the other side of the window watching Avaryl & Andrew dislike this movie. This movie was taken from us Olds and given to Gen Z, but I've made my peace with it. Let this be gateway horror for kids. It's giving Joe Dante. Should've been campy and crazier, true, but I liked it's quirky vibe. Idk what this says about me, but I did not see Gemma as the villain. I would go as far as to call her a feminist icon. How many female protagonists have had a successful STEM career, no romantic entanglements, and no maternalism? I read the film as recognizing she's hella flawed but relatable and not a bad person. ...Allison Williams' acting style does continue to confuse me 😅 Y'all did fix the movie with the Furby Army Uprising though, that would've been outstanding!
It definitely should've been R if they weren't only looking to make the most profit. Ideally, only the strongest kids and teens find ways to sneak into the theater, or have fake IDs and disguises. Then, it's like a test and those who pass it have cred and get to be tiktok famous. I didn't see the movie tho, even though I'm near target demo lol. The ads make me mad

btw the screenwriter for this movie is Akela Cooper and she also did the screenplay for Malignant!
Dog robots... so like C.H.O.M.P.S, but evil? Here for it.
Hulu's Into the Dark anthology film series had Pooka and its sequel where a popular toy goes nuts at the launch and before Christmas, I think? Idk they're fucking weird and get real trippy. Soft recommend if you're looking for that particular vibe.
Do you get the same revenue whether I skip the ad or watch the whole thing? I will sit through ads for you - just say the word!
It’s a bit complicated, hope this helps: support.google.com/youtube/answer/2991785?hl=en
I also love the idea that maybe Megan like starts to watch movies and learns more about being human and realizes that she’ll never be human with the real girl around so Megan ultimately end up killing the killing her at the climax so she can be the real girl now
Evil AI in Toys is also the plot to Toy Soldiers which still slaps.
I'm really happy Avaryl liked Orphan: First Kill beacause that movie was a great time.
The bloodlust clip always kills me hahaha
I read the film as recognizing she's hella flawed but relatable and not a bad person. ...Allison Williams' acting style does continue to confuse me 😅
Y'all did fix the movie with the Furby Army Uprising though, that would've been outstanding!
'now I know something new about the world' 🤣🤣🤣
Reportedly, the writer says a ‘gorier’ unrated cut might be coming soon...
Milking the cow 😂
Avaryl i think you will love the movie
Thorn hearts, it’s Kate Segal as a psychopath Dolly Parton, it’s camp and gory
no you guys need to watch evil dead rise it’s so campy and ridiculous
It definitely should've been R if they weren't only looking to make the most profit. Ideally, only the strongest kids and teens find ways to sneak into the theater, or have fake IDs and disguises. Then, it's like a test and those who pass it have cred and get to be tiktok famous. I didn't see the movie tho, even though I'm near target demo lol. The ads make me mad
Also the kids are gonna buy the home media version anyway
