Awesome video. I’ve been wanting to get some for around the pond when I’m fishing. Thanks so much for sharing. 😃👍👍
Ya I think this would be great for fishing from the shore. Your basically in one spot so should work for you.
Awesome, I just ordered one to try out.
Cheers!
WOW, I can't believe that this TECH is 3 years old. I am not in a lot of bug (in NV) so I was not looking but now I have one...
chrysanthemum is the word you are looking for! Thanks for the info though, and looking forward to trying out my new unit.
The only downside I see is that you're vulnerable when you have to cook food since you can't run both. Maybe you can run the thermacell first while you setup and that'll give you a short window enough time to boil water before the area dissipates
THANK YOU HIKER J !!!!! you saved my camping trip here in Canada.
That's awesome to hear. So glad the video was helpful.
thank you for the description, Ill be buying one for my houseboat
A very good idea to have space without bugs would be great.
Thanks for sharing God bless you..
Nice one … i will be purchasing 👍👍👍
Great post
Is it safe to use in a tent?
What's that long leafed plant growing on the left of the screen Hiker J?🙂
Looks dope
Sold :) great video!
I must have a Gen 1 because I can’t get mine to ignite.
Can it be used inside the tent or is it for external use only?
External
Good to keep safe practices up when in doubt.
Another video said that the Gen 2 have a blue anodized base vs the Gen 1 having a red anodized base. What colour is yours?
looks like its red.
I have the 1.0 backpacker with a 16 oz jetboil isobutane propane fuel mix. my top part will not keep a spark when I push the start button. I see a quick blue spark then nothing. Do i need the gen 2 instead?
You should contact Them cell. They should know people are having trouble with the original that's why they made the Gen 2. Hopefully they would fix yours for you.
Same problem. How do you know it's the 1st or 2nd gen?
does it repel flies, moths or other bugs?
I don’t notice flies near me when I have mine going but the moths tend to get overpowered by the lure of the campfire light. Luckily they dive into the fire before they can bother me.
15' radius, so basically like 7.5' from the center point, not 15' bubble around you. But yeah, it totally worked when I went camping. I didn't get bit once, and also, didn't have bugs in my face at all. We had the portable device, and when that device was too far from me, it was obvious. I'm a fan.
Yup I've been outside like 6 hours at night relaxing and no bites I didn't have it last night and got atkeast 12 bites
15' radius is 15' from the center point... a 30' diameter circle. Never used one myself, so it may effectively be more like 15' diameter in practice, but as-advertised that's a 30' across bubble.
I guess you mentioned it uses butane. It is just because of the connection?
If you get the adapters, can you use isobutane or propane?
Holy crap! where in gods green earth did you shoot this video a mosquito testing lab?
Love my original thermacell, just light it and set up wind. Wish it worked on chiggers.
Nice review, thanks. How much did you pay that moth to come in right on cue when you said "buggy area"? 😃
Took me 3 days to train him to do that.
Chris-anthem-em aka mums: big round flowers
Just used one of these on a hiking trip last weekend. There was a few flyers inside the “bubble”
-I like this over the original Thermacell because of the compactness and fuel. Not having to pay $$ for the small butane has is a plus.
-I did have a few issues trying to light mine in the morning, I’m not sure if it was condensation or faulty starter.
-I also bought the ASR Mat12 replacement mats from EBay and will test them out.
This is gonna be great for me. As a full time RVer and traveller I love having dinner outside in the evenings. But that’s when the mosquitoes come out! They kill me. I never thought these things worked. Ordering one from REI now! Thanks!
To exspencive for the average person like myself....
I thought Gen 2 had a BLUE anodised base and Gen 1 was RED!! It looks like yours is Gen 1
looks like be fending em off during early bow season here in florida! lol they will make you question leaving the house
What was that pack you were wearing at the beginning of the video?
Someone referred me to this video from a backpacking group, thanks so much! Going to order one now!
Wow that's awesome. Thanks
😲 didn't expect this to actually work 😲
3yrs later, is there any GEN1 still out in the shops?
You said each pad lasts 2 hours? The website says 4.
His pad wasn't fully white, you can use the pads till there complete white. So yeah about 3.5 hours a pad.
@@iCoKe09 cool, so you have one?
they say its for backpacker yet you have to stay in one place for it to be affective.
The reason it's for backpackers is it uses isobutane as the fuel source instead of their proprietary butane cylinders. To get 12 evenings of coverage all you need is the small head and a package of pads plus the fuel canister you were going to carry for cooking anyways. That's a ton smaller than a 12 days supply of normal Thermacell supplies plus a big applicator, probably 1/4 the pack volume and less than half the weight.
Great video!
You can get the pads from Thailand on amazon that supposed to last 12 hrs and they are cheaper.
actually, Thailand has a local item for mosquito which doesn't need any gas to start, just lit up bottom section and it burns slowly for over 5-6 hours and keeps mosquito and bugs away !!
@@rasaiefar what’s the name?
Try it where there are bugs to begin with and you will have different results. You maybe had a couple bugs while setting it up....LOL Try it here where you cant breathe in the bush for mosquitoes.
I have tried mine all over Northern Ontario in many different situations and the only way a therma cell will keep bugs away from you is if you tie a string to it and swing it around your head like a whirling dirvish.
Different topic, what is that bag you had in the beginning
Um mosquitos are not out when its windy anyways.
Depends on the type of mosquito
That's not true. Some of them are hawks!
The fuck you talking about mosquitoes will get your ass during a hurricane.
