hi Lauren, these Anti-style series of yours are purely genious. I live on the other part of the globe (I'm a personal stylist from central Europe) but I find them sooooo true, accurate and relatable. based on my very own observation of style in my country (Slovenia), I would definitely add 'Average Ann' to the mix. you know, the kind of anti-style that is just so afraid from standing out in the crowd that she wears no colours, no patterns, no clothes/accessiories with personality - ever. she's just so afraid somebody would notice and comment that she overdressed (or overdid her makeup so she rather wears none). that's definitely the predominant anti-style type in my country. anyway, keep up the excellent work and I wish you lots of sucess and great clients!
Thank you so much Lauren for this series, I can't tell you how tired I am of seeing Athleisure Ashley and her cousin Pajama Peggy when I'm out and about. Ladies, we are worth the time to look good, always.
I see them all the time. Sometimes I feel over dressed on the weekends since everybody is wearing sneakers with messy buns everywhere and is not only women.
This spoke to me so much. As a college student feeling the pounds add on and my athletic cloths have allowed me to hide it. On a mission to drop 20 pounds so wish me luck.
From 2:21 to 3:18, she talks about examples but doesn't show any!, why no pictures never in this channel???, it's kinda frustaring because I do like the content but I NEED pictures
If you look at enough pictures, you'll eventually understand the concepts. It's actually more important to understand the concepts, so use Pinterest or Instagram to do relevant searches, and you'll eventually get it! :-)
Right?!! Omg! PJ Pamela needs to wake up and smell the coffee. Is it THAT hard to throw on some jeans a cute tshirt n jacket?? You dont even need to shower. Hit it w some perfume, brush your teeth n go. When did folks stop caring??
That's so crazy! I feel the total opposite about wearing workout clothes! I NEVER wear workout clothes other than to the gym because I feel self conscious about not looking "fit enough." I feel like regular clothes - jeans, flowy dresses, trousers, et cetera, are much more flattering and can hide more. Super crazy! Love these videos!
This made me laugh so much. I love wearing my lululemons basically daily as pants and I’m totally fine with it. I think a big part of it is being a busy student/working full time but on my rare days off sometimes I’ll opt for something more human appropriate.
Your facial expressions are hilarious! I can tell how strongly hate it without even listening to you 😂😂😂. However, I'm guilty of this for sure! You are so on point with this though! It's addictive clothing bc it's comfortable...but yea GET IT TOGETHER Alexis! No more! Thanks for the motivation!
Love this! I only wear workout clothes to the gym! I go home after I workout and get ready for the day. If I don’t, it’s because I worked out, then cleaned my house and have no other plans for the day. My daughter will call me out on it if I pick her up from school in the same clothes I dropped her off in. She’ll say “You’re going to get dressed tomorrow, right?!?”
I loooooove athleisure. Very New York! Black Converse are my go-to sneakers for commuting (I change into nice shoes at work), ALWAYS a leather bag (backpack or messenger bag), a dress watch and real jewelry+ makeup keep this from getting messy, and I either do a real jacket (denim or classy coat) with trackpants/leggings, or a non-logo racerback or mesh detailed top w/an aline or bodycon midi. I think its super cute and playful, and a way to get the most wear out of my very specifically functional clothes. I arrive to the office or gym in this look and change into the rest of my outfit before settling in. It gets a lot of compliments!
I'm tired of seeing teachers wear this to school on daily basis. You're a professional so dress like one. If you're the coach then I get it but not the biology teacher.
Ok I know I'm a niche group here - I've been bedbound for the last 2 years with an illness - I've become an athleisure ashley - and my illness prevents me from exercising so I can't workout to drop the weight. I really want to start feeling sexy / put together in my clothes again, but wearing jeans in bed just isn't comfortable. What are some good outfit options that are stretchy, made from soft materials, but look really put together and fashionable? All suggestions welcome! :) xxxxx (I tried on my old clothes but I can't get into them lol)
I fell into the athleisure trap during a protracted serious illness, too: pretty much homebound, but not bedbound. Comfort really is the top priority then, especially if you spend most of your time in bed! I’m a bit better now and am rebuilding a wardrobe that will help me feel confident again. Make sure that you have a few good (and fun!) outfits for doctor’s visits, etc. However, for everyday, maybe it’s best to focus on sumptuous loungewear instead. Silk and cashmere if you can afford it, or less expensive, but still super soft cotton/modal blends in flattering fits and colors that you love. No one needs to add unnecessary discomfort when they’re dealing with serious chronic illness; give yourself a break. You’re not being sloppy! I wish the very best for you. Know that you’re not alone, though I know it must feel like it sometimes. Sending hugs.... 🤗❤️🤗
I feel you. I'm a stay at home mom with 6 kids. Maybe simple tee shirt dresses or elastic waist leggings made out a more normal material, like Ponte knit?
Oh, Lauren, don’t come to Boulder, CO, or you will have a stroke! 😆 Everyone here missed the memo and I wish your video could be broadcast into every home here! 😘 Btw, there *is* a 3rd type, and this may be the most common one where I live: many women here are super athletic; competitive cyclists, triathletes, ski racers, marathon runners, etc. They work hard at their sports, they have the hard bodies to show for it, and they want to show those bodies off. Athletic clothing can do that, as long as it isn’t oversized. Not saying that it’s a great fashion choice, but it’s definitely another type.
I'm a combo of this and street walking sally 😂😂 I think bc I'm too lazy to try to find clothes that fit right and are comfortable. I have an hourglass figure, lift weights and a boob job. If I wear blouses that are larger to cover the boobs then I feel like it makes me look bigger. Pants are another hard one for me, I have a small waist and muscular legs and big butt and to add to that I'm 5'10. So leggings can be a real life saver in terms of time and comfort.
I'm an anthropologist, and I study clothing as part of my research. I'd be fascinated to read that article you mentioned, but I'm not seeing it in the show notes. Any leads?
I love all your subjects and advise it’s genius!!! I would love to see way more pictures of the examples you are talking about. Bad examples and good. Even though I know what you’re talking about it would be cool to see visuals.
“We have hot messes running the streets in lulu lemon..” so so TRUE! You should see my fellow school run moms, their work out gear costs more than my rent!!!!! 😂😂😂
I’m guilty of wearing athletic clothes out and about but to be fair I do work out almost everyday and don’t always have time to go home and get ready for a store trip.
Sweats are so sloppy and depressing but what about those cutesy Victoria's Secret Pink type of sweats and the like that you see some ladies wearing? I've seen pics of Rihanna wearing these types of sweats with a pair of heels.
BlaqueViolet this is my opinion but I feel like sweats depends on the fit, color and type of fabric . If the sweats are very baggy you can definitely go for a crop top with a windbreaker type jacket and sneakers or strappy heels. If the sweats are more fitted or a slimmer fit you can wear it with a plaid jacket or shirt (with the buttons open) over a plain tee or with an off the shoulder top. Cold shoulders can turn anything classy + heels can change frumpy sweats to something more dressed up
If you can hide the waist drawstrings? Laces? (i don’t know what they are actually called) then even better or buy some without those because if properly worn you could trick people into thinking that you are wearing fitted pants and not just sweats
I knew a lovely lady who lived in Lululemon. Haha, that's poetic. She owned a gym and wore nothing but athleisure wear because it was comfortable and exercise was a "big part" of her life. She said she only wore normal clothing for the occasional date night, but otherwise, even when not at the gym, she lived in her gym clothes. This woman was young, beautiful, had an unbelievable physique, and I just wanted to shake her...but she was strong enough to beat me up, so I didn't. I despised track suits back in the early 2000's because they're just overpriced, bedazzled athleisure wear. I despise yoga pants. I despise Kylie Jenner for many reasons, one being her role in the resurging popularity of this awful trend.
great. I just want to throw out there that it is an option to buy real clothes that fit now, even if one wants to take action to improve health or fitness, lose weight, whatever. you deserve decent clothes in the body you are in now!
True. I am now in the process of losing weight. I am on a broke college budget so I bought some cheap Forever 21 outfits that look good on me now. I buy something new every 10-15 lbs lost. Fast fashion/thrift stores are a great place to shop for your "in-between" body. At goal weight I plan to invest in better pieces.
I do not want to be offensive with this comment. I just couldn’t sit back and watch how you are encouraging people around the world to judge others so wrongly, not that I really care how other people judge me but it’s very uncomfortable when people look at you wrong and not know why. It bothers me that 19k + people around the world now will feel free to think that they now why you are wearing your workout clothes to be out and about. I have never thought about any of the things you said or the article you speak of... instead I’m going to tell you why I wear my sports clothes most of the time... I drop of my kid to school then I go straight to the gym if after the gym I have to go run an aren then it’n smart for me to go back home and change so that people don’t see me in my workout clothes. Then when I get home I shower and change into a clean set of workout clothes because I take my daughter to her swim practice (6 times per week) and it’s not fun sitting for an hour in jeans ok. Thank you as you can see my reasons have not one thing to do with what you think or the article said. For the sake of re in forcing my opinion let me tell you that I do stay home, im not rich, and I don’t have body issues. I’m 5’4 and wait 140 I’m very happy with how I look and who I am. The world is already a chaotic place no one should add to it.
Wow, it's really not that deep! Wear what makes you happy. Most people watch these videos because they want to improve on their style. I know I came here because I'm tired of wearing the same old things. But at the same time I love wearing my athletic leggings and I'm not offended at all. Because I'm more than likely going to keep wearing them when I dont feel like putting thought into an outfit. If wearing athletic clothes makes you happy keep doing you! And like it or not we are all judgemental about something 🤷🏾♀️
Ugh! I teach FASHION at a high school, and teens think leggings are pants. They don't get that they show a lot. They also wear pj's and slippers. Someone save me!
I'm not sure this is me or not, lol. I love comfortable so when I'm in rush I'll put some baggy pant or yoga pant and pair with some black sleeveless so it will not too sloppy. Put some fancy sneakers and BAM! ready to go.
Yeah leggings stretch, but I've always felt they show your legs and butt a lot...I train and now that I'm fit, I don't mind wearing leggings. I don't wear them for anything but working out.
SO TRUE! I recently started wearing leggings almost everyday I go out in public and I never realized it's because of my recent weight gain. I also do it to "blend in" the background because so many people dress sloppy/lazy here in the U.S so no one looks at me anymore. I would get complimented on my style before my weight gain, now no one notices me which is what I want now that I'm fat. Extra motivation to lose weight lol. P.S. No hate for chubby/fat people, it's just not for me.
A type very present in my town, is the 40's or 50's lady who thinks it's ok to shop their teenager daughter closet, usually 2 sizes smaller than what they need. It doesn't look good in anyone, either the fit one or the chubby. And somehow, the chubby one is the most often culprit. I see Desperate Sally.
Uh oh im border line but I'm recovering from a stroke. I do work out but lulumon isn't what I wear. And sweatsuits are easier to get in..ill do better lol
So my black INC stretchy pants are ok or not ok to wear with a long enough sweater to cover my booty? Obviously it's time for me to face the facts because I am wearing legging every day. Ugh... Thanks for the wake up call Lauren!
'Sweatpants are a sign of defeat. You lost control of your life so you bought some sweatpants.' Karl Lagerfeld
Such a savage (but true !) quote !
Your professionalism mixed with your personality is just priceless! Thank you, Lauren, you're amazing.

Odglavedopet That is Boring Betty here.
Thank you so much Lauren for this series, I can't tell you how tired I am of seeing Athleisure Ashley and her cousin Pajama Peggy when I'm out and about. Ladies, we are worth the time to look good, always.
Like Karl Lagerfeld once said "People who wear jogging pants have lost the control about their lifes" 😂 Great series ❤️
LOL!!! So good
This series doubles as the style evolution of Britney Spears
I see them all the time. Sometimes I feel over dressed on the weekends since everybody is wearing sneakers with messy buns everywhere and is not only women.
stefixoxo1 no, no keep dressing up dont be like them. Keep being super pretty and dressed up

Cynthia Alvarez perhaps don’t watch, there’s lots of channels that show images, have a look around. Peace ✌️
I am guilty of this crime, but I am trying to change my ways. T_T
Great series!! I work in retail. Do one on people who wear their pajamas to the store and we’re not talking about toddlers here lol
Susie Roo one of my BIGGEST pet peeves. Esp. When they pair the pjs with their FAKE coach bags!!!
I‘ve NEVER come across an adult wearing PJs in public! WHO would do that??
ROTFL. O.K., I'm so glad that a retail professional mentioned this! AND, wear those same pajamas the GROCERY STORE and EVERYWHERE ELSE TOO!
Right?!! Omg! PJ Pamela needs to wake up and smell the coffee. Is it THAT hard to throw on some jeans a cute tshirt n jacket?? You dont even need to shower. Hit it w some perfume, brush your teeth n go. When did folks stop caring??
OMG PJ Pamela!!! So freaking GOOD!!!

This needs to be featured on tv, because I really hate that style so much. And can I add that “LEGGINGS ARE NOT PANTS” 😡
Kathy Joyner But they
are soooo comfortable 😍
Like Karl Lagerfeld once said "People who wear jogging pants have lost the control about their lives" 😂 Great series ❤️
"Active wear, active wear. Buying groceries in my active wear. Active wear, active wear. Having coffee with my friends in my active wear..."
This made me laugh so much. I love wearing my lululemons basically daily as pants and I’m totally fine with it. I think a big part of it is being a busy student/working full time but on my rare days off sometimes I’ll opt for something more human appropriate.

I have zero poker face. hahaha

I think there's a third type in this activewear group which is just being lazy and also wanting comfort.
Those videos are so much fun!!! Love these anti style types videos. Great work Lauren ♥️
I'm tired of seeing teachers wear this to school on daily basis. You're a professional so dress like one. If you're the coach then I get it but not the biology teacher.
not you telling teachers how to spend their tiny paycheck 🤡
Speaking the truth, Lauren! I'd love to read the article/study you refer to, please share. xx àllie
I'm looking for it. I posted it on my FB page ages ago and of course can't find it now. Stay tuned, I'm on the case.

Try a brand called Yoga Jeans!

Lol I was looking for someone who was willing to admit that this is them...you admitted to this and SWS double whammy!!! Lmbo
My goodness, you look beautiful! Your hair is wonderful. Love these anti-fashion vids, lol!! Can't wait to see more. ❤
Great message, Lauren. I love your vids!!
This series is therapy. Thank you Lauren
I'm an anthropologist, and I study clothing as part of my research. I'd be fascinated to read that article you mentioned, but I'm not seeing it in the show notes. Any leads?
I was interested as well and I think I found it: mobile.nytimes.com/2015/05/17/opinion/sunday/poor-little-rich-women.html?referer=www.google.de/
Will it be possible to find your research somewhere online once it's finished? I would be really interested! Fingers crossed! 😊
I found this one: mobile.nytimes.com/2011/10/20/fashion/mom-uniforms-for-school-run-are-designers.html
Wow! I can see the truth now... Thank you!
Obsessed with that turtleneck!!! 😍 omg

Wow! Just had a peak of those pants Lauren. They look sweet.
I’m guilty of wearing athletic clothes out and about but to be fair I do work out almost everyday and don’t always have time to go home and get ready for a store trip.
These are really fun Lauren. Totally enjoying, k
Could you share the article when you find it?? I m really interested in reading it!

kimtpcat70 me too LOL and zippers
I need your outfit details!!
I see this EVERYWHERE with women

Where’s the lie?👀😂 I’m so guilty
anti-style videos. all seem the same.
How does one go to the gym and not shower immediately afterwards?
I’d piss you off if you ever see me walking around.
I love getting blowouts. I do it weekly.
😂😂😂
you have started to swear sooooooo much more
