  • This is the Sonicake Amp Toast. Rather than do the traditional demo, which there are many great ones of this amplifier on UA-cam, I want to answer an important question: are today's practice amps better then when I started playing in the late 80's?
Is this amp only capable of being a practice amp for electric guitar, or can you use it with bass or acoustic guitars, too? What about using the Amp Toast as a home recording amp? Can you use it directly in your audio interface?
So, I'll be using my Tanglewood acoustic guitar, my Sterling Ray34 bass and an Epiphone Coronet, loaded with a single P90. Using limited gear with a single pickup, we'll get to determine how flexible the Amp Toast is...or not.
I'm a Stringjoy artist, and play their set of Broadways on all my Electric guitars.
I play the 10/13.5/17/28/38/50 on all my Gibson and Epiphone. I play the 9.5/13/16/26/36/48 on my Strat and Telecaster.

Not only are practice amps far better than ever, everything else is better as well. From preamp pedals to audio interfaces, it's wild how much more advanced music products have become.

How Soon is Now... Tremolo example. 😁👍🏼 Johnny Marr's live version is so good! I'll just link it in a second.

You were spot on with your review of this amp bro there were a couple of good effects the plate reverb was definitely one and the chorus wasn't to bad but it isn't really my cup of tea but as a beginners amp it would be good I think but another great video bro . Salud

I would prefere my practice amp from back in the days over this modern boxes all the way. 😅 A trusty Peavey Blazer 158 with real spring reverb. please dont get me wrong. I dont want to disrespect anyones choicee. Thats just my personal opinion. 😌✌🏻
First thing i totaly dislike and whats a deal breaker to me is that it is made out of plastic. (I think it is plastic, please correct me if i am wrong...i couldnt find any information about it even on their own website) As electric guitarist we have to deal with plastic parts every day..shure...but we should keep an eye that it is less plastic as possible. 🌍
Second thing i dont like is that those amps today come with a lot of extras that i dont need but have to pay for. Blue tooth, Apps, wlan, effects i dont use etc etc etc. 💸
And the last thing i would like to mention. I think to many soundoptions for a beginner is not a good thing. You can say "more ootions, more fun = more playing" ...but i say in most cases more sounds means more "playing" around like with a new toy and you end up with less serious playing and practicing.
Beside that this new amps lookin like cheap toys to me. It doesnt look like a "real" amp. And i am shure that my 17 year old me would not like to play on something that looks like a toy. The bigger the better...lets be honest, thats how young guys are thinkin😂
If i have to choose a practice amp on actual in store availible ones i would go for the VOX Pathfinder 10 (maybe the VOX VT20x, if i realy want the extra sounds and effects). If i would be more on the high gain stuff side the marshall mg 15r would be an option, too. And if money is not a thing the Marshall DSL 1. Because of the 0,1 Watt mode it is practice amp useable too. 🙃
Sooo like i said...please people dont feel attacted ore anything like that. Thats just my personal opinion and mindset. Whats good for me not has to be good for you and the other way around. 😅
Please forgive me my bad english and writing misstakes. It is Saturday 6 AM here in germany and i didnt sleep that much last night. 😑

There is no universal right or wrong, just valid user feedback in this case. You've highlighted some fair points, too. Some of these amps do present far too many features to be considered a simple practice tool. Just because companies can cram as many features as they want, does not mean that they should.
I personally feel like Sonicake streamlined the features on the Amp Toast and kept it rather intuitively simple. I've played more convoluted amps than this, and even I had a hard time wrapping my head around what those amps aimed to achieve.

It's a shame that they are discontinued.
