Healing potion is called swallow. It's pretty useful but using quen sign is very effective too. You can put it on and if something hits you, you'll be protected form damage. Other than food, you can also meditate. If you do so for at least an hour, your health and potions that you use up will be restored. I can also recommend doing more looting, not in front of guards or soldiers 'cause they'll attack you for stealing. You can loot chests in houses in the villages safely, tho! Many items, even if they aren't useful, can be sold to merchants and help you gain more coin to buy other stuff. You can also play Gwent to get some money. About Roach, as a fun fact, she's a mare. Games are based on polish fantasy novels, and Geralt calls his every horse Roach (after a fish) in books, so it's just a canon thing for her to be named that. Also, when you get dialogue options, white ones give additional information (you can ask other things after choosing answers written in white), and yellow ones are pushing conversation foward/are a choice that influences the plot. I'd advise checking out notice boards, if you don't want to read everything that is put in there you can just pick it up and if there is any quest connected to them it will automatically show up in your quest panel after you collect all of the notes. The game has really cool and detailed lore! You should check out characters panel and the books that you might find often give some more information about world realia, legends and politics. Crossbow is almost only useful underwater, cause you can't fight any other way while diving and it actually deals really big damage, kills monsters on one shot, max two. If you're dealing with a monster that flies it can be helpful too, to knock it down from the air (but you can use ard sign to do it too).
@@monte_isbored Thank you so much for the detailed comment! I’m absolutely loving the game so far and all the tips/lore is very helpful and interesting 😁
If I am not mistaken you did not do the quest for a herbalist. You would have to craft a healing potion during that quest. Also I would recommend reading glossary entries about characters.
- read the bestiary, it will show you monsters' weakness and how to fight them - invest in potions, decoctions and oils - alchemy is OP if done right. If a merchant has a recipe for a better verision - buy it immediately - loot the dead monsters! (red crossed out dots on the minimap) Apart from the loot you're missing out on the ingridients for alchemy - witcher gear is hands down the best gear in the game, spare no resources on crafting them - side quests are pure quality, do as many as you can - explore, it is heavily rewarded - there is a side quest in the White Orchard that will give you the Swallow potion (your main healing option) do it as fast as you can - Gwent is the best minigame/side activity in the history of games, do not skip it. Buy every Gwent card you'll come across of - loot everything, useles items can still be sold - keep your mutagens, upgrade them and pair them with the right abilities for big bonuses (red mutagen to red abilities, green to green etc.) - have fun
I totally recommend roleplaying the Witcher properly. You can do this by always learning the weaknesses of monsters before you fight them, like you have to do with the first tutorial monster, and then brewing potions and poisons that are meant for those specific monsters. Now, you do not actually need poisons and potions to kill any of the monsters in W3, just silver sword and signs are enough, but it really enhances the roleplaying experience if you do go all the way, and always do prepare those poisons/potions/bomb for each boss monster fight.
Please continue playing. It's super interesting to watch someone experiencing the game for the first time. I'm looking forward to the next episodes. Greetings from Germany
i know everyones giving you advice in the comments, wanna just say its very relaxing to watch your stream! thanks for sharing your journey with witcher 3!
If you level up shield sign at higher levels you heal while shielded as well as avoiding damage). The yrdrn sign which creates an area to debuff the enemies can at higher levels form turrets to blast enemies from afar which allows you to dodge and heal while still outputting damage. Good sword play isn't the sole place to spend your level up points.
Everyone's covered the basic tips I would give at this point. I wanna add, don't forget to check out the Beastiary. It really does help with providing strategies on how to deal more damage and beat pretty much all of your enemies. You don't really need to read the description of the enemies on the right side of the screen. The important info is in the middle of the screen when you have a particular enemy highlighted. It shows what oils work best that you can apply to your swords to do extra damage, and it tells you which signs work best for each beast. Loving that you're playing this series! 😁
54:29 you should go back and play gwent against him, once beaten he will give you a really strong leader-card, this card has a special ability that doubles the strenght of all your siege cards
Don't know what your settings are but i would recommend turning on auto apply oils if you don't have it on already. One less thing to remember before battle.
Subscribed. There is a /huge/ amount of information, lore, and mechanics to learn when you start W3. Not least, you need to learn just how much there is to learn. Spending 10-15 hours in the White Orchard 'beginners area' is a good idea. == Look at the bottom-left of your map, where it says 'default'. Change that to 'all'. Every '?' is a point of interest / treasure / monster nest / whatever. And those are just the ones you already know about. Other quests come from noticeboards or just as you wander the land. Take note of the quest and map levels - for instance, you should be level 5+ to go to Velen. Recommend you return to White Orchard for practice and levelling. > I'll give you all the no-spoiler tips you want but at the moment it would be more likely to just add to the pile of 'things to learn' rather than help.
Some tips. Use Quen before starting a battle. Use your signs more during like Igni, Aard, Yrden. Helpful to lead with one like you did in that last battle. Burning several then attacking. If they are stunned strong attack is good. Also utilize the longer dodge, I believe you hold. And don't throw yourself in a bunch, when they surround you you ge hit a lot. Better to long dodge and then attack with say Igni or the sword. Also, meditate between battles for a short time to heal rather than wasting potions or food. Those are for mid battle. Other tips mentioned here are good. Like learning to play gwent. There are cards you can get like at the inn in White Orchard and I believe the guy you can play in Vizima. Loot as much as possible. If you get too much you can stash or sell. Just grab all notices on a notice board. There is still a lot to do it White Orchard. Doing side quests help your character level up. Oh and your choices have consequences. It can effect smaller things in the game or even what ending your get. Also, I think with the trailer release you picked a good time to do this. Wouldn't have found you without it.
Get the perk called Sun and stars which passively regenerates your health in and out of combat. Far more efficient than constantly buying food. Cheaper too.
Those questions by the nilfguardian commander was to just understand what choices you did in witcher 2. Either answer is okay, but they influence the game a little, like, you answered that Letho is alive - cool, will meet him later in the game.)
hold the crossbow button down and AIM before letting go. Use magic in fights, especially Igni when multiple opponents grouped together. Use Axii on enemies that have shields or archers...disorients them a bit so you can kill them.

During the interrogation you basically answer what you would've done in witcher 2.
41:18 "when in rome, you do as the romans"
Geralt calls his every horse Roach, so that he doesn't get too attached to them
In Sapkowski's books Geralt's horse is called Płotka what in Polish is the name of a small fish, so small that it's not worth to catch it 🙂
