Will is such a wonderful soul and he has so much wisdom and intelligence. I think people forget how homophobia was not only tolerated in society but encouraged, and I do think him coming out made a huge difference.
Just glad you found your voice, its hard to believe just how being gay could be seen as something bad. Loved you since you first popped up on Pop Idol. Your sexuallity is your business
Great singer, never even considered his sexuality during pop idol, none of my business, and made no difference to how I viewed him, if only the world did the same. I hope he is doing well ❤❤ ..Julian's joke was a classic, very funny, tv moment.
You are truly an inspiration and an advocate for all LGBTQ communities across the world! You know who you are and show that LGBTQ people are no different from anyone. They are human beings that should be respected and treated with the same humanity as anyone else. You showed the world through your music and voice that you are truly a positive role model for all gay people, Thank you for all that you do and continue to speak out when it becomes necessary. There needs to be many voices to address this issue.
I just looked at this video from years ago I hope you are well and come back for 2024 with more amazing music please never give up on your talent music never give up for your 2024 music Thank-you
Something Will mentioned at about 8:00 in to the video about not being able to go to the Police regarding homophobia... I was homophobically harassed (Within the legal definition of the phrase) by a near neighbour for six months in 1999. As well as the usual jeers, I had neo-nazi slogans shouted at me, raised arm nazi salutes, threates to break in to my home and cause damage and the last straw was a half brick launched across the road toward me. I kept a diary (Contemporaneous notes) and took them to the Police. I was taken seriously and the ring leader was arrested and charged. I went to court and I gave evidence. The defence lawyer didn't give me an easy time, nor did I expect him to but it was to no avail, his client was convicted, fined and slapped with a restraining order for twelve months. If it happened again I wouldn't do anything differently. I encourage anyone experiencing homophobia to report it!
Not many gay role models in the 1980s - is he serious?! Freddie Mercury, George Michael, Marc Almond, Boy George, Marilyn, Holly Johnson, Elton John, Derek Jarman, Ian McKellen- it was a golden age of gender bending. Perhaps it was tougher at Wills posh private schools, but everyone got bullied at those as far as I can tell. According to his book his schooling was a positive experience and his friends supportive.
I think you missed the point, gay was visible but the visibility wasn’t positive. Freddie Mercury died of AIDS. Boy George chained a man to a radiator and sexually assaulted him. George Michael was arrested for sex in public toilets. Marc Almond was HIV positive. Elton John was the butt of multiple gay jokes and ridicule despite his icon status. The point is there wasn’t the best representation for gay men, we were either sexual deviants, dying of aids or a walking stereotype of camp Julian clary style.
Yep agreed, why do we need to know who someone sleeps with? Gay has become an identity of its own. I also think Bobby uing was originally born a female who was given male hormones at pub er ty hence the pretty soft feminine facial features, gentle eyes and the tight jeans that had no room for meat n two veg! A gay friend of mine fell in love with Zena the warrior princess but now as we look back they were all men!!!
@@coolcat6103 This guy has to be one of the biggest drama queens currently drawing breath. Any word of criticism, no matter how valid, he flounces off & then cites "mental health issues". Can't stand him, or his biggest hit "Leave Right Now".
@@privatewillyoung9548I've always knew i was gay but i couldn't actually say it on Facebook until 20th May this year (because of communication problems with having autism) my gay role models are Owain Wyn Evans and John Barrowman(for the men) and for the women it would be Heather Peace
@@silverwotton7953 I’m a great believer in we are what we are.. I don’t believe we should force anyone into our own beliefs and I also am very pro free speech. My own niece who I love dearly is gay.. @@darrengrimmer8541 I'm really glad to read this. Unfortunately not everyone has the same open-mindedness as you do and I'm sure your niece may have felt easier to come out in a world with positive role model in the media that have paved the way for a more open society and a more equalitarian legislation (that wasn't just there 20 years ago) I see what you mean though, in theory.
As someone who has been an absolute huge fan since pop idol, I am so immensely proud of you William. ❤️ Love you 🥰

Beautiful voice and person from a nurse who has cared for patients with AIDS. People can be too quick to judge. I’m also a twin ❤❤
Very impressed. What a kind eloquent man. Just getting to know him.
Such a great voice and the older he gets the more handsome he becomes.

Hello Will
ffs who cares

Why is it so important for people to tell the world they are gay???. I really don’t understand.. sorry
Positive representation, visibility, helps acceptance and growing up, fighting stereotypes and prejudice.

Same! Being gay has taken on a new race of its own, it's now a whole persona
Well maybe you should read his book to understand why it's been important.
